So we all love fishing, whether it be in real life or in a video game, just the feeling of having something at the end of your line is a beautiful sensation. Then you reel it in and it's a bunch of seaweed. That's how ESO fishing feels at the moment. It feels like a very incomplete aspect of the game. Fishing has made me really appreciate the beautiful scenery in this game, made me a bit of money from the 1 roe I get from every 200+ fish, and has given me cool achievements. However, I think it needs a bit more content to make it something useful, fun, worthwhile, etc. I rarely see anyone fishing at all in this game and it's pretty saddening considering the potential it has. So in this post I'll be including a list of changes I would like to see in the future. It would make a lot of people really happy to see some of these changes as well. Fishing has amazing potential because of the fishing spots and the scenery you get to see while fishing, but adding something to make it worthwhile (other than just scenery) would really make players admire this game.
Here are my ideas:
1) Daily Fishing Quests:
Fishing quests will not only give a purpose to fishing, but will make it a daily activity for a lot of players. The daily quests should require the player to either A. catch 1 specific fish of each quality in a single zone (1 white, 1 green, 1 blue) or B. Catch 3 blue/green quality fish in 3 different zones. The rewards from the quest should include a couple items (will go more into detail later about these items) including 1-5 of 2-3 special kinds of bait. High quality bait for use in a specific type of water. It also should include about 10 fish which are bred specifically to give more rich rewards (higher chance of perfect roe) Daily fishing quest rewards should come in a box entitled "Fisherman's Tackle Box"
2) Fishing Tackle! (And More Bait Options)
Fishing should have its own equipment slot where you can equip 1) A Rod, 2) Bait/Lures, and possible other slots like 3) Special Fishing Line, or 4) Different Hooks.
Rods:
Different rods will have different sizes and strengths. A bigger rod will allow you to capture bigger fish because it is more durable, however, it has a bigger shadow which scares fish so it will take a bit longer for a fish to bite. A small rod will be for capturing smaller fish and since it's smaller, it will have a smaller shadow which makes it less noticeable therefore increasing the rate at which you catch fish.
Bait:
Bait will come in different qualities. White will be the regular, easily farmed guts, crawlers, insect parts, and worms which allow standard fish to be caught in specific types of water. Green will be a bit more difficult to get (from fishing quests and found in certain crates/barrels/boxes near bodies of water) and will increase the chance of catching a green quality fish by 5-15%. Blue quality bait will be only given from daily fishing quests and has a 10-20% increased chance to catch a blue fish. Purple and gold could be added as a rare drop from fishing quests which give a 50% chance for catching a rare fish when using purple quality bait, and a 75-95% chance of catching a rare fish when using gold quality bait.
Lures:
Different lures should be added for catching specific items when fishing. Bait cannot be added to a lure. A magnet lure (or something of the sort) could be used for an increased chance at finding a Wet Gunny Sack while fishing, however greatly decreases the rate at which fish will bite your line. Spoons will be used for increasing the rate of which you catch fish, however it has the same rate at catching rare fish as white quality bait. Plugs will have multiple hooks and therefore add a small chance of catching multiple fish at once, catching fish at about the same rate as fishing right now.
Fishing Line:
Different fishing lines will simply increase or decrease the rate at which you catch fish based on how thin/transparent they are, but higher quality lines will require a specific item dropped by different mobs (world bosses or something of the sort) to be crafted.
Different Hooks
Hooks will also increase/decrease the rate at which you catch fish based on what material is used to make them. Bigger hooks will be used for bigger fish, smaller hooks for smaller fish.
3) Fishing Skill Line!
The Fishing Skill Line will be passives. Here are some ideas for the passives:
1) Allows the use of high quality bait. (1 point = Green, 2 points = blue, 3 points = Purple and Gold)
2) Allows the ability to craft rods and tackle (Points increase the quality of the material you're able to use for crafting)
3) Allows the use of Lures
4) Increases the rate of which you catch fish by (1%/3%/5%)
5) Increases the chance of finding Wet Gunny Sacks while fishing by (1%/3%/5%)
6) Fisherman Hireling
These are just some of my ideas and I will be happy even if they're just read and taken into consideration/used for inspiration. Thank you for reading!
