Can no longer play (black screen crash--Nvidia)

About a month ago, I had a black screen/driver TDR issue with this game while running in DX11 mode. It did not affect DX9, which was allowable at the time. I had tried all sorts of things including completely redownloading/reinstalling the game, and nothing helped. The problem ended up being fixed when another Tuesday patch came out.

Well after that, I got busy with other things then went on vacation, now I try playing again and am back to similar issues (both before and after today's patch).

i5-4690k
Geforce GTX 770
Windows 7 x64
32 bit ESO

I can log into the main interface, select my character, click "Play" and within 15 seconds the screen will go black, but I can hear audio and sometimes I still have a cursor. I can then alt-tab out or ctrl-alt-del to bring up Task Manager and kill the game. Event viewer shows "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." when the game crashes.

Removing addons doesn't make a difference, deleting shadercache.cooked doesn't help, verifying the game doesn't, changing the INI lines about SET RequestedNumJobThreads and SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads does nothing. This time unlike last the game isn't even increasing my GPU temps. I've updated Windows, updated my Nvidia driver, did a clean install of Nvidia, rebooted, various things.

I do have Intel video in a way since it is built-in but it is not even a selectable option in the Nvidia control panel and has not shown up as a video option anywhere.

No other games cause issues, and I play more demanding games on this computer. I just find it hard to believe this issue is not more common/known, since the Geforce GTX 770 is fairly common and last time it turned out nothing on my end fixed it but a patch from Beth/Zenimax did.

BTW I can't even use the 64 bit ESO as it locks up the computer worse (sorta like the black screen, but I then can't tab out to kill the game).

They released a statement after TG was released that they were going with the latest technology and would only support DX11 compliant software.

Same thing happened to me when I tried LINUX/WINE with DX 9. So I bought Win 10 and it works.

I"m also still having this issue since the thieves guild. I'm running a GTX 770 as well and windows 10. Since the issue started I've done everything on my end I could think of and everything they've said to do and nothing has worked. I"ve pretty much given up. I want to play the game but at this point all I can do is wait and see if whatever is causing the issue ever gets fixed.

I wish you luck in getting yours sorted out.

    Similar problem here.

I have a GTX 580 never had problems before.. and today out of nowhere.. just standing in town waiting to join a pledge group... screen goes blank, Nvidia error/recovery message. but the game still blacked out.

sometimes can hear the audio but that's it.

    update drivers, restarted.. nothing works.

Having this same problem. Today was my first day back to this game in a year! Tried 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Game freezes after a few minutes of play. Can hear game sounds and sometimes get a cursor. If I alt+tab out and back it will show a black screen and then crash report.

My game started doing the same today on Windows 10. Multiple black screens of death, which required me to do a hard boot each time because of no signal on my monitor. Not certain its an ESO problem though as the same happened often while playing Fallout 4

Deleted my user setting file, ran a repair. Did a clean install of my amd drivers. Game still crashed.

As my game is installed on windows 7 & 10. I'm going to see if the crashes start happening on Windows 7 as well.

The crashes all occurred while trying to fight the boss in Broken Tusk delve in Shadowfen. 4 times, resulting in 4 deaths.

    Same issue here.

As a new player and subscriber, I'm disappointed.

I'm not the type to complain and toss round "i'm quitting" like a baby, but I am looking into getting my sub fee reimbursed.

I am having the same exact issue. Tried everything people have suggested with no luck. I have an Nvidia geforce 770 like many of you.
