Question about Exp drops from V1 and on...

So, I come in contact with (fill in enemy), he gives 1800'ish Exp.
A wee later, this very same mob, and NO, I have not leveled, gives only 450'ish nea more.
Then a tad onwards... 300"ish?

What am I missing?

One possible explanation is that the 1'800 XP was including the 4x bonus to Champion XP that you get from Enlightenment (1'800 / 4 = 450).

A drop from 450 to around 300 XP is harder to explain. Was it the exact same enemy? Did you maybe add a third player to a group of two or leave a group of two and lost the 10% XP bonus you get from playing in a duo and maybe your subscription expired at the same time (another 10% extra XP lost)? :) Reduced XP can also happen when two or more other players who are not in a group with you attack the same monster.

Is it a Boss? If so that is intended to stop Boss Camping. Back when the game was released, the Bosses would give full exp on each kill so 10 to 20 players would just stand there and kill the bosses over and over again. Other players just going through the delve would never get a chance to kill the boss. You also get less boss loot, although that is more on a 20 minute timer.

    So (killing same boss)
    1. First Boss Kill, most exp and loot, this is also when you get the achievement.
    2. Second Boss kill, less exp, but still more than most mobs and regular mob loot. If you kill it too soon after the first, you may not get much exp or loot. But the second time you kill a boss, you always get less than the first time.
    3. Third Boss kill in a short period of time after that, even less exp, more on the order of a regular mob kill and little to no mob loot.

But come back after 20 minutes or so, and you get the second level of exp and probably boss loot again. This same thing can happen on overworld bosses (although you always get the first kill exp no matter how fast you go through the zone, the boss loot can be denied on subsequent bosses when your doing them quick enough. It is when you grind on world bosses that you can get less exp.

Mobs, they always give the same exp no matter how fast or often you kill them, unless of course your overleveled.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

No, I did not had a third in party, and it are plain mobs.
I never did boss camping, I find it a despicable way to annoy others.
Now, the Enlightenment feature, how does this work?
Every time I log in, I see that I am enlightened, buuuut.. most of the time, I feel the opposite way, with 450 to 300exp/kill from an NPC my level...

This Enlightenment feature, does it only run a certain time?
It it server controlled like Weekend Bonus on some games?
    Something else?

Thank you for reacting, much appreciated.

You gain Enlightenment for 400k XP automatically every day (even if you don't log into the game). The Enlightenment bonus is account-wide and will multiply all the Champion XP you earn by 4 until it's used up. However, this bonus only affects your Champion Rank progress, it doesn't affect XP gain towards your next Veteran Rank which is character-specific (Veteran Ranks will be removed from the game soon when the Dark Brotherhood Update goes live). Some Addons will already show you the Champion XP you earn by default (and not the XP values that count for your Veteran Rank progress) so that might explain why a monster first gave you 1'800 XP and then 450 a bit later.

The Enlightenment bonus can stack for up to 12 days so up to a total of 4.8m XP.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong and if the values have changed since the system was introduced :)
