Brawler doesn't always proc shield?

I've been using this for awhile now, and there are many occasions where I hit a mob for damage with Brawler, but do not get a damage shield. I end up hitting them again and then I get the shield. I can see with FTC log that the first strike did indeed hit the mob for damage, but alas, no shield generated.

Sogreth✭✭✭Maybe they hit you just as you gained the shield, and broke it? Idk.
Could be a bug. I've had this happen before, but I just assume I took damage just as the shield came up.0 -
babedenny✭✭✭✭But taking damage shouldn't prevent the shield from proc'ing, or does it? I guess if the shield does get "broken" that way, it would at least explain it.

jkolb2030✭✭✭Its possible the shield gets broken... From what i recall, the initial shield you gain isnt a whole lot, the usefulness comes from the stacking shield.
Try it again and compare how much health you lose from getting attacked with no shield and getting attacked after using brawler where you should have gained a dmg shield.0 -
babedenny✭✭✭✭What I was looking at was the shield buff that FTC shows when the shield procs, and the little purple buff in the health bar. Those are the indicators I've been using to know whether I have the shield or not. According to those, there is no initial shield at all sometimes.

r.jan_emailb16_ESO✭✭✭✭✭Since you're on PC, you could try CLS or activate FTC's combat log (at last I think there's an option to write combat events to chat?). If your first shield gets broken, you will see it as "damage absorbed" or similar. If not, there is indeed no shield.Lairgren | DC Dragonknight - August Palatine

babedenny✭✭✭✭FTC and the health bar do not show a shield. I thought, OK, maybe I missed. But no, FTC log shows that I hit for damage with brawler, yet no shield. Should the tooltip be changed to say "has a 50% chance to shield after use", lol?

babedenny✭✭✭✭It honestly hasn't been a bid deal, but if it proc'd 100% of the time, i would probably put it 2nd on my bar after Ambush. As it is, I have Wrecking Blow. It never fails.
It would just be nice to launch into a group of mobs and hit all 3 with Brawler and get the added shield. But when that doesn't always work, well... it kinda leaves you with your pants down, so to speak.

Esquire1980g_ESO✭✭✭I've noticed this as well. However, it isn't the shield that doesn't work for me, it's a missfire on brawler itself. I get the same thing from the 2 handed gap closer.1 -

babedenny✭✭✭✭OK, I just swung brawler at air, and see the shield proc. What gives, lol. And it procs every time. I'm starting to think damage taken can interrupt it.

babedenny✭✭✭✭I just tested again, and took a screenshot. It's a large image, so that you can make out the chat text. You can see at the top of the chat where I hit with Brawler for damage. That was my initial attack.
There are no indicators anywhere that I now have a shield. Nothing from FTC, nothing in the health bar, no shiny aura on my toon.
Yet, in the FTC log, I do see where I have a shield that absorbed 1888 damage. Since I'm not aware of any other shields I would have, that must be from Brawler.

is it influenced by MAX stamina only or weapon damage also ?
