Speed Bonuses Glitch?

Back in August, (when I first got this game) I decided to create a character based on the idea of going fast. Faster than a horse! I looked up all the speed bonuses available to me and decided to go through with this plan. It's December now, and I finally reached Vet 1 and achieved the last of the primary speed bonuses. Excited, I decided to test out these bonuses to make sure that they could stack and that I wasn't passing up better gear for nothing.

Then I came to realize that the Speed Bonuses were being added at roughly HALF of what their description claimed that they should be. I recorded my speed tests, and organized all the math in one convenient little video below.

https://youtu.be/VJZo6Yn9D5A

I'm really disappointed that this is the case. I contacted customer support over this, but after several emails back and forth (along with some troubleshooting), it seemed to be a problem that was out of their hands.

It's worth noting that there should be no reason for the speed bonuses not working as described except for possible (in-game) formula errors. Frames per second, and my system's processing power at the time should have no bearing on this as this video was shot all in one go (and later edited to include the math). With my characters natural base speed as the "control", everything added on top should work as officially described, but it doesn't.

    Great job testing. I'm curious what the speed potion would have been as well. I recommend that you post this in the general forum known bugs post. The devs are responding to that one and maintaining a list.

    Both the Speed Potion and Rapid Maneuver grant "Major Expedition", which should yield the same results. I say "should", but testing proved that they aren't working as they should in the first place, lol.

    Regardless, I did repost this in that thread as suggested. Hopefully they will take notice.

    Have you checked how long it takes to run at normal speed (not sprinting)? If that is something about 30-35 sec then everything seems to be fine and the speed buffs just stack different than you assumed for your calculations.

    Sprint speed is supposed to be 33% higher than regular speed IIRC. That shouldn't bear any impact on the speed buffs though, as most of them are designed around sprint speed, and some for overall speed.

    The Steed Stone is for overall speed, let's pretend it buffs speed by 10% (because it's easy).
    - Normal walking speed would then be 110%
    ---> 100% * 1.1 = 110%
    - Sprint Speed would then be 146%
    ---> 100% * 1.33 * 1.1 = 146%
    ---> 133% * 1.1 = 146%
    ---> 110% * 1.33 = 146%

    No matter how you dice it, that's how percentage based increases work. If something only works for Sprint Speed (which some of the speed bonuses do), then you can only calculate it based off of sprint speed, which would again bring you to the same answers.

    This is exactly what I think how it is not working.
    I assume it's the following:
    Normal speed: 100%
    Sprint speed: 133% (=1+0.33)
    Sprint speed orc: 143% (=1+0.33+0.1)
    Sprint speed orc, full medium: 164% (=1+0.33+0.1+7*0.03)
    Sprint speed orc, full medium, fiord, major expedition 219% (=1+0.33+0.1+7*0.03+0.15+0.4)

    This also fits with your numbers. I took the time from your video and calculated a speed by simply setting the whole distance as 100 distance units (you could take any number, but 100 is nice for calcultions). Then I divided the speeds by the speed buff you should get according to my theory. The result should always be the same base speed (if my theory is correct) and as you can see, the differences are very small, so I'm probably correct.

    As stated in the bugs topic, I was doing something weird with the calculations. So while the proper numbers won't be the same, the numbers presented in the video aren't far from what they should be. I aplogize for the poor image quality, but here are the corrected numbers. (again, not too terribly different than they were before)

    I sort of see what you're saying, but not quite. Elaborate a bit.

    I wish I could edit my post, but I meant to add that everything is obviously accumulative in the video and my numbers (with the exception of restarting with the steed stone). Also, I'm sure the dev team is capable of doing it's own math, but I wanted to ensure you guys that I wasn't some weirdo who had no idea what he was talking about when it came to math. ;)

    Oddly enough, I've been running the exact same speed concept build on my stam sorc orc since way over a year ago (I'd been gone for 7 months til Wrothgar was released). As a scroll runner in PvP.

    Before so many buffs were consolidated into things like "Major Expedition" I could stack the speed buffs, with speed potions, even higher than now. I think I still have 2 full sets of Fiords, level 26 and lower. I use add ons to swap out gear rapidly as you don't want to fight another player in that armor (well, back then a stam sorc couldn't win a fight against a squirrel).

    I also make most of my characters carry around Cyrodiil Ward 3-piece sets for the mounted movement bonus for when getting to a defense in Cyrodiil is critical.

    http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Ward+of+Cyrodiil+Set

    It's so cheap, it's beyond belief to me that not everyone carries this around when in coordinated groups in Cyrodiil.

    Come to think of it, I should check whether my stam sorc still has the Steed boon before I try to tackle the new endgame content with her.

    I am very, very sad that with the new Major/Minor buffs that there's nothing I can do to get a Minor to stack with the Major from Maneuvers.

    I am bookmarking this thread as I miss being able to outrun horses (bolt escape is nice, too, but not on scroll runs)

    Just curious if this was ever addressed in-game. Having spent months (few hours a day) building this character up to be fast (which was something that was supposed to be possible), and having it not be possible sort of shattered my desire to keep playing. I haven't played in months.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is a bad game. Far from it. Simply that having spent as much time as I did for what amounts to a lie was more than I could take at the time and that it took away all my desire to keep playing. I really enjoyed what I played of ESO, but I would really like to see this specific issue addressed in one way or another.

    ...

    On a related note, it would be nice if we could get some armor like Fiord's Legacy in higher levels. When designing a character to be anything (powerful, durable, fast) you want to stack those buffs as much as possible, and it's nice to have things like that.

    I agree. I am leveling a speedy Temp (lol) using high sprint speed as ghetto mobility, and as zippy as an Orc in medium armor using The Steed is, it would be cool to have some endgame set options to boost it a bit more. I straight up don't use Major Expedition because I feel my only options for it are a waste of stamina since I am sprinting so much (because it's faster,) so some set options would be nice.
