Weekly Trial Leaderboard Reward Suggestion

Hey there,
there have been a lot of discussing about the Weekly Leaderboards in the past weeks with people putting all their chars on them to get more loot and taking spots of other players. For me that is the case, since TG I always had 3-4 Rewards so you can call me guilty of that too. I've also raided with a few casual guilds in the past weeks and see problems on both ends of the leaderboard.
From a high-level player perspective the old Trials have lost a lot of their charm for me. They offer close to no challenge, nor in the content itself neither in getting on the leaderboards. Trials have been my favorite content in the game for a long time but right now we're just farming them and not actually competing with other groups as #100 and #1 get the same reward. On the casual-view the content still offers some challenge but for many people the leaderboards are just out of sight.

So here's my suggestion:
Make every account only get one spot on the LB, the highest of any char counts.
Let the rewards differ depending on your rank. I assume that with this change the total number of Entries on the LB would have to be reduced so that not every run makes it, but only ZOS can know where the border should be, so I'm going with 100 entries.
Rank 100-51: Two random pieces of gear
Rank 50-21: Three random pieces of gear
Rank 20-11 Three random pieces of gear and one random jewelry
Rank 10-6: Four random pieces of gear and one random jewelry
Rank 5-2: Five Random pieces of gear and one random jewelry
Rank 1: Five Random pieces of gear and two random jewelry

I think this would be a win for both sides, having competition on the top because everyone wants to grab the best reward and some more spots for the casuals.
Let me know what you think of this, any opinion welcome.

Cheers

Flák

    Personally I would prefer the tiers 1., 2-10, 11-30,31-100.
Limiting the reward to just one per account might stop players from running with other groups using their alts and lead to less trial runs in total. A softer approach imo would be to limit it to the best char of a class so that it is ok to get the reward as say dk tank, templar healer and nightblade DD each but not with all of your say 3 nightblades which do not require different playing style than the first one.

We're not "taking" anybody's spots though. Whether I do it on my main or on an alt, I earned it for each character and didn't "take it" from anyone. If you anyone wants a spot on the board, beat our scores. It's simply really. What I really don't get is the casual QQ about not getting on the boards. They are leaderboards, meant for competing, which typically isn't a casual thing. I'd prefer this didn't go account bound so can't agree with you there.

With that said, I like the idea of a tiered reward system and it would probably mitigate the non-issue of ppl running alts through. Me personally, I wouldn't take my 8th alt into a trial to get a 100k if I knew it would result in a lower tier reward. I would, most likely, use the 3 or 4 alts I'm most comfortable with to get the 130k+ scores to be in the top tier. If that makes sense.

It's just a perception mismatch... If the scoreboard stores 100 scores, people may initially think that means 100 separate teams. It doesn't under this system, one team can have as many scores as they have alts to place. I haven't yet seen anyone go to the extreme of purposefully switching out 1/12 characters and rolling a new score repeatedly just to deny lesser guilds the ability to place, but it's possible.

I'm not sure changing the leaderboard rules would help, though. For every human designed system, there's going to be a way to game it. Changing the rules just changes the game :)

That looks like a really good idea.

Agree, running alts through to get more loots (yes, I've done it) isn't really fair play.
Adding more spots to leaderboards was a nice touch, thanks for that.

The l33t don't actually need more gold drops, the almost awesome could use a little bump. Many can't get those super amazing drops because they don't have the right friends, or they won't drop their original game friends to join the professionals. (Bless y'all for loyalty)
Spreading some of those tasty drops to more players is a good thing.
