That does not help the people who are not at the cap. It's those people who generally need the help too.
If your at the cap, you should b good enough to complete anything this game throws at you.

Depends tho. I have a friend who is stuck on vmsa (round 5 I think) who is capped at 501, performs good in trials hitting decent numbers but lacks a bit of skill defending while sustaining damage at the same time

There will be some at cap that can't do it, but there will be far more below it that can't (increasing cap does nothing for them). Round 5 is a dps test, sounds like your friend just isn't optimised for it rather than it being too hard. Maybe he is too tanky so can't pass the dps needed.
