Eso plus or buy?

@Lysette has a very good point : people who start the game now and want to explore ALL the content are much better off subscribing, else they have to purchase all 3 DLC already published, PLUS the upcoming ones.

It's not only about access to current/future DLCs but also the past ones.

But buying "raw crowns", outside from special sales where they are cheaper, is mathematically a bad deal.

    You don't do math good.

    Demonstrate that I'm wrong, please.

2 years of subbing versus buying...

    1 year sub = $360
    You also get 36,000 crowns.

You can buy all DLC for 9500 crowns. To buy it all and have the extra 36,000 crowns like in subbing means buy 45,500 crowns. Total cost ( at $0.007273 per crown) is $331 AND you own all this DLC. If you buy crowns on sale, yes the difference is much larger. It's the bag that makes it worthwhile.

You just forgot a little thing - 9500 crowns for those DLCs, which are out already .- and what is with those 8 DLCs, coming out in those 2 years, which I estimate to cost 20,000 crowns. Then did you take into account, that a subscriber is using it's 36,000 crowns on other stuff than DLCs - so you have to take those 36,000 crowns to spend on other stuff for a non-subscriber as well into account to be on even level, when it comes to having access to things.

Now this looks bad for the non-subscriber, doesn't it?

And a subscriber pays 4x66€ = 264€ for all of this (using 6-months subscriptions)
I counted having the same crowns afterwards as a sub. I used the standard monthly because I thought consoles didn't get a 6 month plan. IF they stay with a DLC per quarter from now on going forward, it is cheaper to sub than buy at the normal rates, which is why I would stock up on crown sales if I went that route. Plus you still have all the DLC if your sub stops. I will keep subbing, as I have for the last two years.

Well, it is a little different - I'll show you. To have access to the same content as a subscriber, a non-subscriber has to invest

9500 crowns for the DLCs which are already out
20000 crowns for the DLCs which will be released in those 2 years
36000 crowns to spend on other things, which the subscriber can buy with his crowns

totals to 65500 crowns to have equal access (just not the crafting bag) which cost 416.81€ seen in 5500 package prices.

So the non-subscriber has to pay 416.81€ to have access to the same content like a subscriber, who pays 264€.

    q.e.d.

Yeah I assumed time travel backwards. Still sticking up at next crown sale. Now if I could just stop buying more things to ride/wear/pet, I'd be rolling in crowns.

    Good god it's easy:

DLC every quarter = 3 months = $45 of subbing.

Avg DLC cost = 2,500 crowns = about $25 (or $15 if you got crowns on sale).

So, DLC and the occasional impulse buy would be about equal to subbing = subbing to me is more of a convenience "not have to think about it" solution.

Crafting bags just might be the thing that tips the scales.

For the individual above who compared subbing for 2 yrs and having 36K crowns = what 36K crowns would cost a non-subscriber is just flat out stupid. No-one wants, needs, or would ever buy 36K crowns, so the point is worthless.

That was to make it equal. If someone has no desire to ever buy mount skins, costumes, pets or anything else, then they would only have to have bought 9500 crowns in the past year. Totally changes the equation.

It is about having access to the same things - if you just take this out of the consideration you compare having less as a non-subscriber to having all for a subscriber - and lie into your own wallet - it will cost you more, if you want to have the same content as a subscriber - if you don't, that is a different thing - but 2 years are a long time, with a lot of items coming out, which you might want to have. Of course you can say, I don't need that stuff - in this case it is different - I just made a fair comparison where both have access to the same amount of content - and then subscription is the far better choice.

Edit: and no one needs 36,000 crowns?- I have spend about 30,000 crowns since I am here and this in not even half a year. So 36k crowns will not be even near to enough for me in those 2 years to come.

That is assuming you want everything..

Personally, I don't care about IC, others don't go near TG. I completed the entire Orsinium during the 1 month I subbed, I don't care about vMSA, so I am not missing anything there.

Everyone had different wants, desires, and has different standards as to what something is worth. This thread really needs to die, there will never be a consensus except that I like non subbing and others like it. Big deal. We are both still killing daedra.

Every PC player had to sub first year. If I had kept the crowns, I could have unsubbed and bought all DLC for a "free" second year.

There were no crowns during the 1st year. We got a few as "loyalty reward" when the game went B2P but not many.

Crown sales, I got the 5500 pack for like $22 :) Still will have bought TG and DB DLC and a mount to boot.

If I was subbed I would have paid $75. Sure, more crowns to spend, all depends on if you would spend those extra crowns or not.

I stopped subscribing when I hit the CP cap. Considering I have enough CP for two DLCs (at least 102 over cap) I don't suspect I'll ever re-subscribe unless they really increase the cap. Until I'm just buying the DLCs.

i sub simply because it's a more non commitment and for 15 bucks i can come back and boom i have every dlc released and if the game has gotten to where i wouldn't sub i wouldn't play the exception being to games that have no sub option i am doing it mostly for the minor exp boost but the crafting bag will be awesome benefit

if you compare monthly offer it is :

    30 day sub = 13$ = all access + 1500 crowns + other benefits
    1500 crowns alone = 13 $

So on a monthly basis subbing is the best option. Of course buying crowns in big bulks is another good option but that also means you have to pay all the money at once.

I guess I just got lucky, when I decided to buy the game it was on sale for $24. A few months ago they ran a 40% off crown sale for one week. I have spent a total of $60 on this game, have played entire Orsininum (when subbed) and own TG and still have 3600 crowns ready for DB :) Next time they have a 40% off sale I will spend another $22 for 5500 crowns, enough to buy then 2 DLC after that.

that's a plan as well, if you don't see a benefit in the crafting bag for you. It really depends on how you play and what you spend crowns on.

Thanks but I already own 2 of the DLC's and most of the other things in the shop don't interest me. I plan on buying the full DB DLC for the wolf though, but I generally don't see a need for the other extras you get with eso plus.
