Let's just hope that if the teacher is an ESO player, that they are enjoying the game...

Otherwise might be bad news for the poor kid's final grade ;)

It could have gone the other way. The teacher could have said...

"You know what would be a shame... if your kid failed my class. You know what would ALSO be a shame? If these features didn't make it into ESO" :naughty:
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

"You know what I've always wanted in ESO? Weapon dyes...I've wanted them so much that it's so hard for me to focus on grading your kid's papers. A D here, or an F there. Maybe I might be able to grade better if ESO had weapon dyes..."

P.S. I was the guy in the back who asked about the wisdom of giving a bunch of 11 year olds $1,800 laptops. :worried:

Basically, if you don't use that money, you lose access to it.
So it's not really about wisdom. It's about a very short-term appropriation of 'free' funds.

Haha it's never "free". Free is bs, always is and always will be. Someone is paying for it and most of the time it's you that's paying for it.

Betcha top dollar the "administrator" that set the plan in motion got something illegally out of the deal as well.

Yes, it's tax dollars at work. But many school districts appropriate technology funds under a 'use it or lose it' stipulation. A school can't just hold onto the money or even shop around for more competitive prices. You crack out the one catalog from the one supplier and place the order.

Even if that technology will be functionally obsolete the next year or be substantially cheaper.
It's not illegal appropriation. There's just no transparency and very little stakeholder input.
And then schools wonder how a former employee can steal $100k in equipment without ever raising flags...

Not the case here though. This is a county-wide program specifically to buy laptops for every kid. It has an initial cost of over half a billion dollars. The yearly cost will be somewhere around $75 million (or likely more once the laptops start breaking from use over a couple of years). That money could be spent in SO MANY other more effective ways.
