Am I the only one who LIKES Veteran Ranks?

I've been playing this game for a year. My main is now V12. I thoroughly enjoy the leveling process, exploring the world, and enjoying each stage of the game. I will probably level another character all the way after I get my main to V16. If she can make it before the DB patch.

Am I alone? Does no one else enjoy leveling? Is everyone just in a hurry to get to the top?

I am worried about so many changes being made with this patch, but hopeful that I can adjust and not lose my love for this game. It just seems like it's going to be a lot different.

You will still be able to level, it will just be under a different name and quantity.... Just like if you were gathering oranges in an orchard, except now you will count by the slices you collect instead of the full fruit. It will be ok :)

I love leveling also. I'll probably keep doing Silver/Gold on all my toons, just because of the skyshards and skill points and the experience of leveling.

Felt the same way on my first vr10/12 character since i leveled it up doing Cadwells silver and gold plus Cyro, completing every quest, world boss and delve there was. Not that funny to do that again on an alt though, then the grind becomes massive if you just want to get to max level asap.

Personally, I predict the whole transition to be a total cluster F$&*$,

Already they are going to change most crafting traits, causing people to craft new gear based on whatever the new meta is determined to be on PTS. Also, with skill changes, you have a mass re-spec going on.

These two factors alone are going to bankrupt a lot of people, add to this trying to figure out how the whole CP thing is going to balance out?

Never seen a game remove "levels" in a game before, unprecedented and wow, I think I am going to stop playing for a few weeks and just read the forms when DB launches. Should be great entertainment.

Leveling your first character is fine, there is plenty of game and things to do. The issue is when you start wanting to try other classes or completely different builds. By the time you get to your third character you'll despise VR leveling.

After reaching v16 on your 1st alt, you're like "Well that wasn't too hard".
After reaching v16 on your 2nd alt, you're like "Well, I hope I won't have to do it everyday".
After reaching v16 on your 3rd alt, you're like "Well that was annoying".
After reaching v16 on your 4th alt, you're like "I know all the quest by heart and every possible option, can I skip the stuff?".
After reaching v16 on your 5th alt, you're like "Never ever ever again".

I enjoy the leveling process. Once I hit V16 usually I start another character. Never understand people who play this like battlefield or call of duty. I always thought the whole RPG part was the fun of it. People rush to get a V16 character than complain there is nothing to do. Meanwhile you have this huge game full of awesome story lines and quests. Things you can do differently each time too so it doesnt have to be the same unless you make it that way. Just my opinion.

V16 = cp 160. Just been renamed and obviously majorly nerfed as getting 160 cp is easier than getting to vet 16. Gear is still leveled. Pointless. All other changes could have been done whilst keeping vet levels. Now you can see cp level elitism will get worse. Bad idea overall imo.

    I absolutely agree with you

I feel the upcoming changes i.e. the VET rank removal will benefit those who want quick lvl up & many alts

I have my main character VET lvl 8 & one alt lvl 46 & I simply enjoy the lvling

I personally do not have the rush to get to top lvl & put on all of the top end gear, I play to enjoy

So to my opinion those who are happy about the removal of VET rank are the ones who want to get the top gear as fast as possible & have many alts without any difficulty of lvling them

I agree on the slow leveling, prefer to take my time. Had a bit of a cake panic and actually regret the extra levels I gained but I did want the CP's as branching into PvP. Now levels will become one and the same which is a bit weird. But it'll all work out am sure.

    You're not.
VR ranks are cool for one player.
What sucks tho is the content attached to Vr levels isn't really great.
    Let me clarify.

Silver - should be all level 45-50 stuff
Gold - should be all level 45-50 stuff
DLC - because it's scaled, it should be all level 45-50 scaled stuff accessible at level 10
Craglorn - now this should be real content but due to how all other dlc is set, it should be scaled 45-50 too and maybe start at level 15-25 not level 10 cause u need weapon swap and some other developed skills.

So now there is no need for VR.
That's the issue for me personally.

CP, yes and using CP like VR....absolutely NO.
VR should be a leveling system for PvP.

Imagine if for a moment your gear and PvP progression was rewarded at the levels of trial content due to the constant at risk nature. Imagine if you have 16 or more levels of PvP progression so that those skill lines didn't start and stop at 1-50 but instead these lines morphed and enhanced your gear and skill effectiveness. Think of the VR skill progression like a different form of CP Passives that changed how skill morphs and how gear applied during PvP.

    That would be awesome. IMO

I didn't mind the VR system and I was "ok" with the CP system as a form of progression till they decided not to raise the 501 cap.

Now if they ever raise the CP cap and we already have stored enough CP over 501 to hit the new cap immediately we will be right back to no progression feeling again after that.

To prevent that the cap needs raised on a regular basis.

I agree about liking leveling. Granted i have not leveled any character to v16, do not have that much time to play. I also kind of dislike the CPs being account wide, i don't use them on alts because it makes is very boring. I understand why other people want to get to top level asap to do the hardest dungeons/trials PvP and whatnot.
However, i actually kind of want them to remove cp use from the 1-50 level zones just because if you don't have/use CP on your alts in these zones, sometimes people come by with i don't know how many and just one-shot stuff, well thanks i guess for killing everything and leaving absolutely nothing for me to do XD

During cake week I started a new character and set a goal of getting her to VR16 before the veteran ranks are removed.

Why do I care about achieving a veteran rank that will be going away? Mostly because I already have 7 VR16's and just wanted to get to 8. Means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, but does make some form of sense between this altaholic's ears ;)

I will say this though, this time around it has been down right painful :(

    You're not alone, OP.

I rather enjoy the Veteran Ranks and the Upward Character Progression that they provide, and I think moving to a Horizontal Character Progression system like they're doing is a mistake.

But Zenimax is determined to make this mistake, so there's nothing to do but let them make it.

Edit = IMO, the removal of Vet Ranks is a band-aid to appease impatient PvP kids who want nothing more than to have eight characters all at max level/gear in the shortest amount of time. They don't seem to realize that half of the fun of an MMO is the journey and questing to get each character to max level, and getting to explore that is being taken away with this change to just Champion Points and their horizontal plateau of not-really improving a character beyond level 50.

Like others have said; this will create a situation where you get 4, 6, 8 characters to max level in an extremely short amount of time, and then those same players whining for this change will be the players whining about how there isn't enough to do and/or a "lack of content"...

I have no problem with VR levels, after a couple of years I have one character advancing through them and plenty of other characters leveling 1-50. My only concern is Cadwells which I don't intend to do so have paced my leveling so that the DLCs can provide the alternative to Cadwells, but not generally until the characters have completed Coldharbour otherwise they're simply too over-leveled for the base game content.

I have no issue with veteran ranks as well. I am currently on my 3rd run through with a VR character. I would have been happy with just 1 character at VR 16 but I mostly play PvP and with ZoS “rebalancing” all the time it is nice to have choices. So now I am on alt number 3 and I got to say I just look at it like esports training. It is not that hard, and it is certainly not that boring. Hopefully with grand reset that ZoS is doing to remove VR leveling the game does not get totally hosed, IMO the VR system is fine the way it is.

I see plenty of "too much at once" before each major patch. I trust you will survive, sun will come up.

I too loved playing thru... several charrs at once. My first v16 was my fifth char, then it was my first, then my fourth.
Tossed two vets, levelked now 5 other vets at 10, 13, 555ish etc.

But the "fun" of redoing gold, silver, etc that many times got lost after say the fourth run each.

The cool part is YOU DONT HAVE TO JUMP and lose your still fun exploring. You dont HAVE to allocate all the CP or equip the higher level gear. You have the option to play AS IF VR still there for as long as its fun.

But soon i can take all eight of my chars to full end game IF I WANT without doing gold silver grind again.

    (Guessing)

I think it's played and viewed in those ways because if you're not at max level, groups of player feel you don't belong or won't allow you to join with them. If it were just a few, no biggie but it's more of the "VR16 or we kick you or won't invite you" types so it causes this must reach max level in a rush focus.

A lot of this falls on the developer tho.
For example....removing VR levels as detailed by ZOS on PTS.
If they just removed all of VR.
And applied skill/stat points like they are but did not attach any gear requirements or NPC cp level indicators or any CP caps it would eleviate this. (Remove that focus)

Further, you then categorize leaderboards by cp range and level range. Not cap entirely
Campaigns for PvP be set by level and or CP ranges
Dungeons and trials not scale to any particular CP level but use levels 10-50 player levels and NPC levels of 10-56

    It's how I see it

Veteran Rank is just a fancy name for levels. The problem was in slow progression and no way to speed up the leveling process on your alts.
I've been playing ESO on and off since beta and I never completed Cadwell's Gold on my main and I never managed to get a single alt to at least VR1:D And I absolutely enjoyed the quests in this game! at least the first 200 of them........
