How to do Normal Maelstrom on PS4 if VR Ranked?

Is it not possible to do Maelstrom Arena in Normal Mode if the character is over level 50? I walk in and take the quest and it starts the vet version automatically. Since I'm clearly getting rekd, I figured maybe do some practice on Normal mode... Checked all gameplay settings and there's no Normal/Vet selector switch like (i thought) I remembered seeing somewhere on PC. Is it just not possible to do normal mode at veteran ranks on PS4?
