Why did you pick your first/main faction?

Because of a race I wanted to play.
Honestly, I came in to the came a complete Elder Scrolls noob. I never played Skyrim or any other titles. I know... I know... how is that possible... I just stuck with WoW since vanilla and never did anything else...

Anyway, coming in, I did a tiny bit of research on the ESO site about the different races and Dunmer looked cool and sounded cool. So I went with that. Since then I've made race decisions purely on their racial passives.

I picked it because I thought having Redguard, Breton and Orcs in the same alliance seemed pretty badass.

I picked DC at first for a few reasons, one was my friends fave races were here but it wasnt the main reason, since we all had imperial edition

This was a group discussion between my friends so its not just my opinion, so ill try to explain our reasoning

    1. Tamriel is currently in a state of war, and King Emeric is a merchant, At the end of the war the economy will fall through with the lack of consumption on wartime materials and the like, and tamriel will need a leader with a strong buisness mind to pull tamriel through those tough times.

    2. Skyrim kinda torched our opinion of the dominion, even if they are different in 2nd era, they are just 2 steps away from becoming the 4th era racists in many regards.
The rather irritating player community i have observed on my alts lend more credence to my personal dislike of this faction, no offense meant if you are of that faction and consider yourself a good person, my experiance with AD, aside from the roleplaying crowd, has been universally negative

    3. We have spent time in skyrim and morrowind already, as they were the more recent games, but it has been ages since we have spent time in daggerfall and high rock. So we wanted a nostalgic experiance, but were more or less put off by the possiblity of EVERYONE flocking to EP and drowning it in a large population

These were the biggest reasons for choosing DC, and even today, i maintain many of these reasons, even if i have a alt in each faction, DC is home

You have some awesome friends. I wish my friends were into this game. I tried getting one to play and all she did was *** and moan about not having a mini-map, other random things..

PC version has a mod that adds a minimap
little ammo for your future arguements :3

I started on an underpowered computer and Kenarthis Roost was the only place my computer could handle. Since then I've bought a new computer and will probably be mostly EP. A lot of odd stuff goes on there, lol. So if I need entertainment I just go to the bank.

My chosen guild was created for the DC. I wanted to play a tank and it seemed a redguard will handle this. I was "sick" with the "all-elven-rule" in the fantasy games, so that's why I dropped AD. I thought everyone will play with a dunmer, the most epic TES race, so I dropped EP :)

Honestly, I wanted to be a dark elf from the start. But when picking an alliance, I kinda forgot all about that and decided oooooooh I want to be that alliance with the dragon in it!!!!!!! Luckily EP was the dark elf alliance so it was a win win lol

    Daggerfall Covenant

    Under the fanboy portion,
Daggerfall is simply still the best game in the series, even if Morrowind won the company more mainstream appeal.

Under the role-play portion, there are a few factors
Emeric's political capabilities and value of the economic prosperity the Empire brings are relatively noble. None of the leaders are perfect people, but feel his view of the Ruby Throne is most level-headed.

Pact would have been my second choice, as their valuing of cultural identity and the efforts they have made as an organization to deal with the stain of Argonian slavery is meaningful, even if it does not last.

Aryenn left a poor taste in my mouth before the Beta with her letter that used to be on the main site, where she talks about how the 'races of Man' (which I guess also includes the Orsimer, Argonians and Dunmer somehow?) are lacking in the wisdom to run an empire, and that an Altmer infant would be a better option for an Emperor than any human.
Comprehend that she has to unite the races of her alliance against a common enemy, but it just always felt a little in poor taste and cast a different light on her whole approach to rule in game -- she talks about the importance of equality, but still has an underlying sentiment that the Altmer race is superior to the other races.
Where I live, this same type of disparaging racial sentiment gets thrown around in real life, so I may be less forgiving towards it than other players, but my characters could not support Altmer supremacy, especially given it is the type of sentiment that leads to the genocide of the Argonian hatchlings ):

Since I had the opportunity to try all the alliances in Beta, had a good basis for comparison of the early quests and what they would imply for my characters -- decided on Covenant as I liked the representations to High Rock and Hammerfell culture they provided; there is sort of a feeling of political intrigue and interior tensions while sorting out issues for the alliance, whereas a lot of the Pact questline is sorting out subversive attacks from the other alliances.

Played a sneaky, sniper-y Bosmer Archer in Skyrim and wanted to continue with that play style / story.
Brunhilda Icehammer - Nord Dragonknight, 'Smith & Enchantress 'What is 'ranged? I need to hit something!!'
Laehl Direthorn - Bosmer Nightblade, Purveyor of fine Clothes, Bows and Staves
Reeza gra-Zuni - Orc Templar 'War Shaman' and Apothecary
Noemi Snowpaw - Kajiit Dragon Knight - I laugh... or I'd have to kill you.
Kitera Dreamon - Breton of The Dominion: Because those Daggers don't appreciate a great Mage.
Lysara Shadowcroft - Dunmer Bloodmage: This will only hurt a lot.

There's a reason the Altmer think themselves supreme to the other races. It's because they are!

(troll over) but I do love them

When I started I created three chars at once, one in each faction... I wanted to test several classes to see which one I liked the most.

(I discarded NBs from the start, since I hate sneaky-thievy play style, and in my mind I associated NBs with that play style at that time, when I still knew nothing about the game or what each class could do.)

So I started as DK in DC, then followed with my Templar on AD and last was my Sorc in EP...

It just happened that my Templar grew on me and so I started to play that char way more, since then most people I connected to was from AD, and the guilds I joined were AD too... so I stuck with AD, and since most of my friends and guilds are AD, I cannot in good conscience play against them in PvP, so I decided to stick with the faction, at least for PvP purposes.

For PvE, I still play any and all my chars, in any faction.

Lore as well, but the main reason why I picked EP was because I was impressed with what I saw from someone on YouTube. He was a dark elf magicka DK that was wrecking s---, and this made me also want to roll as a DK as well. The three races in this alliance had to put aside their differences to beat invaders, and again would have to defend against attacks from DC and AD just like in cyrodiil.

Nowadays, I'm mainly on my nord Templar or dark elf nightblade for pvp if I'm not busy grinding my alts. I plan on recreating an alt on AD since I want to have at least 1 VR16 on each alliance.

First faction I joined was AD, back in the beta. Purely because Khajiit.

But then the game officially released, and with the Explorer Pack, I had the option to roll whatever race in whatever faction.

So with that in mind: For the Covenant! For the High King!
