Quick Question - Food "Rank" requirement?

Hey quick question, i bought some food from guild store which i realize i can't use because it says "Rank 15". Not Level 15 like i initially thought. Does this mean i need to be Veteran Rank 15 to eat it? The stat addition looks pretty standard for "level 15" requirements (1500 stamina boost).
If its not VR requirement, do i need to just spend a skill point on my provision or something in order to use it?

✭✭Does it have a little shield icon next to the level? If so then it's VR15.

✭✭✭✭✭You can eat any food that is for your level. Its making it that you have to invest points into the Recipe Level for the level of Recipes you want to make. IIRC, L15 can still be done with Recipe Level 1 if you want to make them.

So, maybe there is a tool tip error on this telling you its one level, but it is really another one. Look up the name of the food on the list I linked above and see what level it really is. Also, note, that at character level 15, you can start to use Blue Foods and get both a Stamina and say, a Health boost, like with Shepard's Pie or Beef Stew. The lower level Blue and Purple Recipes are not always cheap, but can be found in various loot and stealing places if the kiosk pricing is not good.Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

✭✭✭✭✭Food scales to you. For example, Level 10 food will give you a bigger boost if you eat it at Level 22 than at Level 10. But eating Level 20 food when you are Level 22 is even better. So it is possible that the Veteran 15 food is scaling to your level, despite your inability to eat VR15 food.2 -

No, it does not. Well, not the food you make in the game. Looted foods and drinks may scale in effect*, and only based on the level when you find them, but not crafted foods and drinks. Crown Store Foods and Drinks do scale, but they are much weaker than crafted. However the VR10 foods I have made still have their VR10 stats even when used on a VR15 character.
*I honestly have not paid any attention to Looted Foods and Drinks in a long time, so not entirely sure how that all works. Crafted food absolutely scales. A Level 10 food will be X strength when you are at Level 10, a little stronger when you hit Level 11, a little stronger when you hit Level 12, and so on. But once you hit Level 20 (the next tier of food), that becomes better than the Level 10 food. This was done specifically so that crafted food was better than Crown Store food, as they promised us that player crafted items would always be a little better than Crown Store items.
As an example, my Level 47 character sees VR15 "Braised Rabbit with Spring Vegetables" as 4869 Health and 4454 Stamina. While my VR16 characters see it as 5395 Health and 4936 Stamina.
This was added in Patch 2.0.11, back in June 2015.
