Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Hmm a lot of changes and around 30-ish days to test it all. This a good idea?

I was surprised when I saw DB is launching May 31st on PC. Seems to me they should put this stuff on PTS for more than 30 days. I mean to meet their schedule they have until the end of June. I hope this works out better than last time.

I wonder if they will push some bug fixes with DB for the previous DLC. Been hanging out here waiting for the patch notes to be posted. I just think they have some time why rush it. Even with their self imposed deadline of quarterly DLC they have until technically the end of June.

I think no matter what part of the game we play we dont want crashes and bugged quests etc. The mechanics changes affect everyone. Removing vet ranks is a big deal seems like there would have been more time to test it out. They even said a lot of bugs and stuff dont show up until it hits PTS.

I have seen Devs mention that various bug fixes were coming with the next major game update... including the 'sprinting' bug. I'm guessing that many of the bugs were not something they could simply hotfix, so they had to wait until a major patch. Several times they've discussed how they can't make major changes with a hotfix, that there are numerous things that go into a bug fix and many times hotfixes just wouldn't be possible- so those have to be included in a major update.

You don't need a major patch to release a small patch. They just don't have the backend system to bring it down quickly and bring it back up quickly.

Pure laziness and puts perspective into how long they're willing to let things stay broken.

It's not enough and they shouldn't be continuing with this current model. Anything not related to the DLC should be done through incremental patches. They are making bug fixing and finding extremely difficult with these massive updates every DLC.

I normally would agree with this statement. However, most of the bugs reported on PTS make it to live anyway, if we use history as our guide.

Maybe they're just going to push this DLC out there and then fix all the bugs from both DLCs together over the next few months. I haven't heard any promises about the following quarter yet.
Happy All the Holidays To You and Yours!

I agree in a way. i think big things like changes to core mechanics (vet ranks for example) should be done outside of the DLC release patch. Stuff like that needs to be on PTS longer and have more input before pushing it live.

They got deadlines to meet :) I think a month is quite a lot of time, given the enthusiasm of PTS users for uncovering bugs/exploits/broken content. I just hope ZOS has enough manpower to deal with this feedback.
Skye Cloude - Sorc DPS, Master Crafter. Main, the bestest
Lae Lenne - Templar Healer Trial grade.
Dromede - Stamina Nightblade, she's a newb and doesn't know what she's doing
V'oghatta - Stamplar pretending to be a tank
Ulville Thonvella - aspiring Fire Mage, be careful around her fire sticks!
Dromedaris - lost and not found. Named after a shoe, what else can you expect from her? A proper tank in her wildest dreams
Swims-Naked - too pretty to grind, too silly to quest.
Sun Flair - Dunmer Templar that can't spell for life. To bad she's too broke to afford a name change... Well, at least she's pretty...

TG had the 64-bit client and DirectX surgery to deal with, but DB only introduces gameplay changes (while hopefully refining graphics/sound/server code). I expect a smoother release... but fingers crossed, anyway.

What gives me pause is the fact they still have alot of bugs to fix from TG. I'm not concerned with the manpower. It's the question of fixing them in a timely manner.

Longer time doesn't mean better. Even with a PTS there is NOTHING that can be done to accurately test tens of thousands of people all jumping on at once. This isn't a ZOS problem, or even really a video game problem, it's a technology problem. I'm sure that Apple tests and retests IPhones and they always have 6 months of glitches. I had a Madden dev tell me about 8 years ago that the first hour of launch 20 times more bugs are found than in 8 months of testing.

When DB comes out there will be a ton of fixes for TG, a few for Orsinium and even a few for the base game which has been out for 2 years. When the next update comes afterward that update will have fixes for the DB and everything before it.

People often don't grasp how hard technology is to work with. Patches exist for this exact reason. We could beta test it for 6 solid months and it wouldn't do any more good. You simply cannot replicate tens of thousands of users all logging on at once.

I still think they should hold off until mid June and let people test this longer. I believe more testing means better quality. How about incentives to jump on PTS? Like give away some crowns or plus memberships.

Longer testing on PTS won't accurately translate live server issues, no matter how much of an extension they give. I think 30 days is fine.

Guys, its 37 days on the pts.

That is 3 more days than TG. It won't make the world of difference but it should help for a cleaner take off.

Technically, they are. Goes on PTS Apr 25, launches May 31. 35+ days to test, report, patch. And hopefully, the base patch with DB fixes a lot of the issue that TG brought along. We'll find out when the patch notes go up.

I think they need to test all this stuff more. Its crazy so many changes to the game in one patch. Its a recipe for disaster that they seem to keep repeating. Anyways just my opinion. 60 days minimum for DLC on PTS and like 90 days for mechanics changes like removing vet ranks.

Im pretty sure too they only have like three weeks of actual testing on PTS. So we have like a week or so until our chars are wiped once its up and then they have to copy EU characters let them test for a week or so. Then prep it for patching live that takes a few days. No changes can be made the day before it hits live servers I dont think.

It is always about a month between the PTS and Live. We usually get updates once a week on the PTS.
