Something similar to an instant cast Solar Flare?

I've had this Templar for a few days now and i finally morphed Solar Flare. I was excited because i had remembered players in Cyrodiil wrecking me with it, but it seemed like it was instant cast. I saw that one of the morphs made the skill instant cast, so i spent my next skill point to get it.

What i didnt know or pick up on, was not only did the morph take away 800 of the damage, but it also turned it into an AoE skill...while keeping the magicka cost. How in the world is that a fair tradeoff? Solar Flare is a fantastic skill with the only drawback being a 1.1 sec cast time. But for a person like me who plays squishy characters, thats a lot of wasted time.

Were those people using the 1.1 sec cast time Solar Flare ability, or is there another instant cast skill similar to it?

They were using the 1.1 second cast time.

Well it is stated in the description that the Solar Barrage(or whatever it's called) morph is AoE and doing less damage

That said, yeah, they were using Dark Flare, the 1.1 second cast time morph of Solar Flare. It opens you up to interrupting and damage while you're casting it but the damage you can do makes it worth it in some situations.

I have no idea how i glossed over the AoE part. I was so looking forward to it becoming instant cast too.

Well, since i'm here, got recommendations on the best abilities to use for a Magicka dps Templar?

Solar Barrage is more for PvE Melee Templar, you use Solar Barrage followed by a Sweeps ult or Biting Jabs which all the damage is amplified not just the first target hit. It's great on huge trash packs in PvE, useless PvP.
