Need help with race selection for Solo Magic Templar

I tried playing NB but I just don't like the class as much as I thought I would. I have an Imperial Stamina Templar in DC and wanted to make a magic templar to use staves. I was thinking Breton for extra magic, Dunmer for extra fire damage, or Argonian for the self healing buff. What do you guys think is the best?

Your probably better off with Breton as the extra magic wouldn't hurt at all. I rolled an Orc and have been enjoying that character since 2014!

I use Breton and love it. Can happily solo stuff like portals in sewers. Not sure if that's good but I can't do it on my other toons so its better than what I have. Best dps I got was 41k single target on murklight in elden hollow which I am sure you will agree is ok. Most trials bosses around 30k but that is not solo.

I have a Bosmer and like her a lot though I thought maybe a Dunmer would have been best because of the flame buffs and A magic templar is a fire mage after all. I just don't like the look of any female Dunmer I have made so I haven't gone with one. In fact I just made a new character and she is a Bosmer Templar in EP.

Sanna yos'Phalen - Altmer Sorcerer (provisioning)
    Cosima di Mattina -Altmer Sorcerer

My argonian is a magicka healer templar build, and people hate on my kind but he's never failed me.

Dunmer is pretty strong this patch, especially if you are using a fire staff and skills like Impulse or Blockade. The extra stamina and fire resist kind of round out the character in a way that the other magicka races cannot IMO.

I have had a Breton templar, but once I rolled an Altmer one I've never gone back. Altmer templar is amazing.

If you're heavily reliant on Templar skills I think you're better off going with an Altmer than Dunmer. If the races you gave were the only ones you are considering for some reason, my suggestion is Breton. Breton is well suited for being a healing Templar, with innate spell resistance helping your survivability, and strong magic like an Altmer. Altmer is probably a little better suited right now because of the more aggressive build (you'll get more elemental damage of any kind), and the high regen is going to end up better than the cost reduction on the Breton.

We have a very strong Argonian healer in our guild so don't listen to those dudes. They can be awesome!

Thanks for all your answers. I didn't consider Altmer because it doesn't have any defensive passives. I was thinking with a solo build it'd be best to have some kind of defense. But I can reconsider that as well if you are all saying it's good. I thought there would be more agreement than this though. But that's good. In every other TES game I usually roll Argonian but it's hard to pick them this game.

Altmer can have high defense as well. Because of the innate regen, you can build your Templar in a lot more unique ways. I have 2 Altmer Templars and 1 Breton, and I pick my Altmers over all. Enjoy your Templar whatever you roll! =D

Imo Altmer is better because of the elemental damage bonus, plus max magicka, plus regen.

Don't worry too much about the defensive passives for race. They're a flat value, not percent based, besides the argonian healing received and health. You can easily make up for it with cp.

    Bosmer Stamina NB
    Altmer Magicka TEMP
Dunmer DK both stam/mag (depends what I feel like)
    Altmer Magicka NB
    Breton Magicka Sorc
    Redguard Stam Sorc
    Max CP

I would only go Argonian if you really want to play for lore reasons. I wont sit here and tell you they arent viable, because they absolutely are, but if you are giving any thought to your passives, you will do better with another race.

The three to consider are High Elf, Dark Elf, and Breton. The trade offs are pretty straight forward. The all give the same boost to magic (dark elf is 1% less, so its close enough).

Bretons will have the best Defense and good sustain. They are definitely viable for solo play.

Altmer will have the best sustain (regen trumps reduction these days), and a little more damage than the breton, but a touch less than a Dunmer. They get nothing for defense, so they will be the squishiest of the bunch.

Dunmer will have the best damage (if using a fire staff). Dunmer is prob the best if you want to go vamp, because they get a boost to fire resistance. Even if not a vamp, a lot of damage in this game is fire. The biggest trade off is that they will have the worst sustain of the bunch. Might be an issue if soloing. They do get extra stam which is really nice in PVP. Everyone needs to CC break/block/roll once in a while.

I have a breton templar that I heal with, and I love it. I don't think I would change if I had the option because min/maxing a healer is not that big of deal to me.

I have two magicka Templars which are both Bretons, no complaints here :) As a matter of fact, I found them the easiest from all classes to play through the standard content. I haven't tried the Arena with them yet, though, so I don't know how they behave during that kind of endgame content.

This was very helpful. I am probably going vamp too, I forgot to mention that. But I think I'm going Breton for this roll. Thanks for all the help everyone.
