"Best Builds" are about to be Broken

I haven't seen much complaining about this, so I'm not sure if people understand what could be right around the corner. In the Dark Brotherhood DLC, ZOS stated that there will be "improvements and adjustments to traits". This is an enormous change. Regardless of how they do it, almost assuredly what the supposed "best set up" is now (which is debatable itself), probably won't be when DB drops. So, what that means is armor sets that people have spent hundreds of thousands of gold on will potentially turn your "best" set into the 2nd, 5th or 10th best set up. Of course it could still remain as the top set, but no one knows.

The upside of this is that ZOS could be taking a major step forward in the "play as you want" area, but, once again that's also conjecture at this point.

Long story short regardless of how it shakes out it will be different and someone is gonna be out hundreds of thousands of gold. Personally I'm all for it ... but that's only because I have a major pet peave about what's considered "best". I'm assuming I'll be in the minority on this one.

Unfortunately I've come to the conclusion that I'll be re-gearing all my characters every major update. Trying to stay away from Heavy Armor as much as possible lol.

Truth. One of the reasons I went with an all infused set up was I reasoned that any future changes to it would be basic, like + 15% or + 25%. I could be way wrong here, but it seem to me that if everyone loved divines the nerf hammer wouldn't be too kind the day it comes.

I agree. However, if hypothetically divines is 5% better than the next best one (pulled that number out of the air for an example) and they bring up, say weighted to be its equal, then there will be an uproar even if nothing is done to divines.

I think it's a given that gear should be updated more or less every major update. It's MMO, gear is a tribute to the character, it's a major build creating tool. Devs come out with new cool sets and updates like this for a reason.

I'm not sure how to answer people who have a problem with that-. I know it's expensive to upgrade your gear choice at once, let alone for several characters, but it's doable. There is a way for everyone)

I'm a dedicated crafter, i love doing writs and i have a reasonable stack of all mats in the bank. After TG, making gold is a breeze at any level. And even if a player doesn't have any DLCs, he/she can go to Craglorn and farm close to endgame mats that sell really well, especially raw. You don't need to level Enchanting to get Kuta there :) and cruxes drop to everyone too :)
Skye Cloude - Sorc DPS, Master Crafter. Main, the bestest
Lae Lenne - Templar Healer Trial grade.
Dromede - Stamina Nightblade, she's a newb and doesn't know what she's doing
V'oghatta - Stamplar pretending to be a tank
Ulville Thonvella - aspiring Fire Mage, be careful around her fire sticks!
Dromedaris - lost and not found. Named after a shoe, what else can you expect from her? A proper tank in her wildest dreams
Swims-Naked - too pretty to grind, too silly to quest.
Sun Flair - Dunmer Templar that can't spell for life. To bad she's too broke to afford a name change... Well, at least she's pretty...

I personally believe that after spending all of my hard earned gold on 3 sets of v16 gear with some very expensive jewelry believe that it will be good to let the lower levels catch up, at least partially. It will also revive the thirst for gear that I have had in the past. At every major update you have had to re-gear and it is just going to be that time again.

An overhaul to traits is fine, but what I really hope they plan to do is make all gear have a "trait stone socket" that lets you change your gear trait simply by placing a new stone into the socket. They could add a special consumable reagent to crafting that allows you to infuse the new trait stone.

You haven't see much complaining because we are sick and tired of running X content 1000 times to finally get the sword of awesomeness we wanted only to have it be "powered" or 'training" or all the other sub-optimal, bad, niche traits that prompt us to decon it.
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

I really wish they would put matt requirements back to rational levels. 1200 rubedite is ludacrist for a single gear set, before you even get to upgrade costs. I worked out the math and it's like 500k or something for a set of armor it's stupid. You can't test builds at all.

That and they should make traits changeable though somehow...

It's impossible to discuss something we have little absolutely no information. OP has already stated in a follow up post he didn't gear as BiS (infused on all pieces) figuring there would be a change some day.

We do not know what will be changed and Zos has shown it is willing to make big changes just as much as fail in making real changes.

I'm hoping they'll make Nirnhoned armor worth making again, other than just to learn 9-traits.

    Sorry if I wasn't clear.

That said, a change to skills would result in a cost of about 10k to 15k for a full respec. Changing an item trait would result in gear changes in the 500k range (as stated a few posts above).

I was pointing out that difference. 10k causes an uproar. 500k would most likely be a forum explosion. However, I will say that the responses so far are very positive. Well played. I only wanted to point this out so people would be prepared for the inevitable. Good to see many of you are!

I think it would be good to have all armour sets as a sub-section of specific styles.
    Each with their own motifs.

Gold dungeons - Impossible Benchmark....Drops armour set motif + Legendary temper (Elite Players)
Silver dungeons - Veteran Level....Drops armour set motif + Epic temper (Hardcore Players)
Bronze dungeons - Normal Level....Drops armour set motif + Superior temper (Casual Players)

The armour set is not the rare aspect but merely associated with a specific place (like crafting stations).
The legendary temper becomes the rare aspect...as legendary stuff should.
You need a crafter to build the gear. Making crafting and socialising and 'community' relevant again.
RNG, BoP, BoE and Trait become less of an issue.

Nah, impen is fine, as is divines. Other traits need to be brought to their level so that wearing 7 pieces of them can be competitive in some arena as these two are. For example, if well fitted reduced cost of dodge and break free by 1% per piece of gear equipped. The problem right now is that some traits aren't even remotely worth using in any circumstance at all, and that can be addressed by buffing them accordingly.

Yeah, the average cost for a full Vr16 gold gear outfit with nirnhoned weapons and all gold Vr16 glyphs is 400-600K gold. A lot of us have both a full set of PVE as well as a full set of PVP gear. Some people have a third set of Trials gear too. Making us have to remake all of that because ZOS changes its mind about traits will result in a poopstorm of epic proportions.

The thing about impen, though, is it's only good for PvP. That in itself is a balancing factor. Other traits have more universal appeal.

Personally, I don't think it will affect me much.

All of my avatars use the Divines armor trait almost exclusively. For weapons, they use Sharpened (increases armor and spell penetration) or Charged (mostly for my Sorcerers as they use Staff attacks quite alot).

That said, I will definitely be keeping an eye on how the item traits change, but I don't think it will affect me much.
