oh ok, so does that mean gear will be able to be higher than 160cp? or is 160cp the limit on gear?

The armors will convert to a minimum CP needed to equip, instead of a minimum level needed...
the implications for our alts is FANTASTIC!

Wrobel The Wrombat told us all about it in an ESO live a few months back.

From what they've said 160 will be the gear cap. I imagine they will raise it over time though (just like they raised VR occasionally).

Unless you are a Nord. Nords will be required to take a reading test in order to equip armor. For master weapons they( Nords) must be enrolled in AA.

Dangit I knew I should have leveled an orc instead of a nord. Ah well off to continued adult learning I guess.

Don't quote me on this, but a while back they discussed making current v16 essentially change to 160 CP gear as stated above, which is great for alts. I believe the plan was to make sure any account with a v16 character would be bumped to 160 CP if for some reason they didnt have them, so nobody would find themselves naked on patch day. They did say at one point the plan was to gradually increase the CP requirements for end game gear, but I believe they were pretty adamant that it would be a long time before we saw gear with requirements anywhere close to the current CP cap.

Well it comes down to a choice. Either Nords must be forced to bathe. Or they must attend Alcoholics Anonymous. A smelly sober Nord is probably better to be hanging around than a drunk smelly Nord with a Zweihänder.

A bigger question is what happens to all the tiered mats for lvl 50+? For provisioning or Alchemy, that's only 3 tiers, not a big deal.

For equipment, ore could all become Ebony ect. It already takes 150 mats to craft one VR16 piece. Pretty easy to slot tiers from mid 40s through 50 +160 CP items inside that range. That way you don't have entire stacks and zones worth of mats becoming useless to all but new players.

I see all the potency runes being a mess to sort out though.

Everything stays like it is now, but instead of using a material to craft vr1-vr3 gear, you use it to craft cp10-cp30 gear.

That makes sense in theory, but it's so fast to gain CPs with Enlightenment that you'd speed past that range without needing the new gear.

If the cp cap is 550 why would there not be gear for that level, that would be stupid

Can't they just rescale the mats? Currently, Iron is from lvl 1 - 14 -> How about making it lvl 1 - 5 instead? And then cram all veteran mats in there as well (Rubedite, Rubedo, Ancestor Silk and Ruby Ash from lvl 49 - 50).

Getting rid of the 10x mats needed to craft the highest lvl gear would also be nice :p

Well I assume it's because 550 cp gear would be absolute god-mode compared to 160 cp gear and the last thing this game needs is a huge gap between players at cp cap and everyone else (more so than there currently is at least), but I don't know the specific reasons and am only going off of what ZOS has said on these forums. 160 cp (or whatever the v16 equivalent will be) is going to be the gear cap.

That's kind of a stretch of an analogy, vet ranks and champion points are entirely different leveling paths. I think they want the freedom to bump the cp cap (expected to be 552 in DB) without having to bump the gear cap (expected to be 160), or vice versa.

I'm past the cap currently, why not have cp3600 gear for those epic grinders among us? ZOS has to set caps somewhere and I imagine the numbers they are choosing are derived from reports they run about where the community is currently and how fast they are expected to continue in the future. CP cap is for keeping the frequent players from getting to far ahead from everyone else, gear cap is for balancing and implementing the gear chase.

A drastic change to the whole mat system beyond just replacing level with CP after 50 would be something i believe they would have hinted at and i believe they have described it as simple as swapping vr for cp.

not sure of the math for vr levels vs 10cp gain. vr level was what 850k xp. if 10cp just match that its 85k xp per cp and i recall that being not the case even with enlighten. We can ignore the multi-levels per mat category part.

So, not sure the speed factor is all that key EXCEPT for the fact that CP are account wide where VR was character specific.

the real difference is experience from any character will help the others in post-50 range.

And yes, i already sold my mats.
