How about writing down builds and equipment and the effect they have on your char(s) in different situations?
In that way you could build the perfect end game char(s). ( the operative word being could....)

I always think it's more fun to write a diary. Of course you could combine it with your build and say that you went into a dungeon armed and equipped with whatever. See how it goes. I have a handmade leather bound dragon motif one I got on eBay. I keep tabs on my characters adventures in it. Good fun.

I am on console so that is another reason I have a journal so basically should I use the journal as a tool for recipes or write down my adventures? and any advice for the best way to do it? I know I suck at asking questions...

No need to limit what you put in the journal. No need to create a fiction. So, make a page to track your traits on, make a page to track your motifs, make a page to track recipes you need or want. Dedicate 1/3 of the book to information you need about the game or your character. I have printed out things like the Crafted Sets and their bonuses to help in picking gear to make, same with Dropped Set items so I know what to chase there. Before I used the addon for Skyshards, I printed out maps of each zone that showed the skyhards. So, print things out at 90% original size, or whatever will fit on the journal pages and then you have a reference section for the game.

The other parts you can put down build ideas, theory crafting and the like. Or you can define the roles for your character things like that.

Then in the last half or third, you can make daily notes about things in the game. I wish I did more of that to be honest. There are so many times I have said, I need to remember this location, there are a lot of nodes to harvest, then promptly forget when it comes time to log into my Farmer. In other words, your not creating a fiction, but more a notebook like Indiana Jones had made to use the Staff of Ra.

BTW, this type of journal I just described is how every great Author defined their worlds in order to write their books. David Eddings even published his Codex with all the information about the world he had his characters living in to keep things consistent. You can buy this to get an idea of things to put in your journal about the game. Look for The Riven Codex at Amazon if your interested.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
