Social Experiment

So many years ago a guy called Richard Garriott made a little social experiment called Ultima Online.
He wanted to see if people would still be "nice" and polite to each other if there were no rules.....he got his answer personally at an in-game event ;)

Fast forward a few years and we have Manchester council admit they were using the Train cancelations as a Social experiment to see how far the public could be pushed until they reacted.

Various other examples are available on a certain search engine, some say the biggest social experiment of all.....

Now my main point here is, Are ZoS tricking us all and this game is actually just a big social experiment by the gaming industry???
Just think about it....where else in life would you put up with the sort of rubbish that goes on here week after week? ....and some even pay for the privilege???

Seriously, don't just jump on the fanboi defence, think about it for a few minutes. ;)
Being First is not the prize, it just mean's everyone can stab you in the back.

I thought you were going to mention voice chat only on consoles, which in my opinion is definitely a social experiment (that failed)

I'm a City fan I did this for 35 years as a season ticket holder, guess some of us are just gullible.
However City did get better

    Have faith.

Lol, never thought of that but yes, they even tell you out-right in their games that they conduct social experiments .....or "Vault-Tec" does ;) haha.

AAHH.....Ultima Online.........my 1st MMO, played it 4 1/2 years before going to DAoC.

But on topic, i do not PvP much, so i dont have a lag issue or a content issue, i mostly play solo, but once a week some RL friends and i play in some dungeons or some higher end content. Now if i said we have no problems with the game at all, that would be a lie, BUT they arent that bad. Nothing we havent adapted to and overcame and are the better for it.

To say this is a social experiment to see how far they can "push" us before we all quit is going WAY overboard and sounds a little like you may be borderline conspiracy theorist. Just calm down, sit back, enjoy the game, if you cant, good luck finding one you can enjoy playing. I havent found a better one in the 20+ years i have been playing MMO's.

I can tell you that social experiments are mostly about perceived lack of repercussions.

Most being flawed in that aspect, or a manipulation of what is repercussion to achieve their results.

If want to reference actual social experiments look up the Milgram experiment.

As for the ZOS ticking us all concept, take a wild guess at how much $$$ this game cost them to make and then realize that it's about brand and it's expansion.

    I don't think it's desensitization, at all.

Watch "the road" if you want to see what I'm talking about. It's not desensitization, but just a heads up on human reality.

I was going to mention the road also. It is one of the more realistic possibilities (great film too :) )

The post apocalyptic "reality" had been covered before imo.

This is from Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan: regarding lack of government.

In such condition, there is no place for industry; because the fruit thereof is uncertain: and consequently no culture of the earth; no navigation, nor use of the commodities that may be imported by sea; no commodious building; no instruments of moving, and removing, such things as require much force; no knowledge of the face of the earth; no account of time; no arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.

So the post apocalypse fiction trends toward philosophical prediction. To be honest, I think a lot of is a lot lighter than reality, with "The Road" being an exception.

if you were mainly a pve'er, then id say you are running with the wrong crowd

if you were a roleplayer, we would not be having this discussion

i would suggest to watch this documentary from history channel - it is a scenario, which could easily happen and consequences are commented and shown in movie-like sequences - title is a bit abstruse, but the documentary is very good and let's you think about how fragile our society and civilization really is
