While you gain Veteran levels you also gain Champion Points. Those Champion Points will be the new levels you'll be losing. So really it's not a loss, just a tradeoff.

But I share your sentiment. I've stopped caring about finishing Cadwell's Silver and Gold with my second character cause the update is coming eventually and she's already a Vet3 and I already have enough Champion Points to equip Vet16 gear when the change happens. So I'm just waiting now.

...Why is there for us to play?

And yes I know, games are for fun. But I like to know I'm progressing with gameplay.

I play quests because I find them fun to do. That's all it takes for me, I'm easily amused.I know that isn't enough for you, I'm just saying my reasons for gaming. I'm glad I play for fun, or it would get depressing quickly, like the point you've apparently reached...lots of people get burnt out when they feel they're not progressing...most burnouts I've come across get burnt out after playing PVP too much and start screaming about all their various perceived "injustices". That's when I know they're about to /ragequit the game and I prepare myself for them to disappear from my friends active logins list. I'm happy those things won't happen to me.

Hoping ZOS adds a ton of new social and fluff items (along with player housing) because then I will be the happiest little player ever.

I don't play for any other reason other than to enjoy myself.

I love ESO, it's a fantastic game. I will play it for as long as its servers are running.

But right now, I have 2 v16's, and 3 v3-5's. During double XP (and the sneaky limitation on XP gain in one amount was tripled), I played myself rotten. And now that the XP is back to normal, I can't bring myself to grind anymore. I'm only 50 points from 501cp and I can easily get that by doing one or two dungeons a day while enlightened.

So basically, my question is; what reason is there to grind characters up to high levels when soon enough anything be they vet 1 - 16 will be reverted to fifty anyway, it'd be like any work out in was made redundant.

Why is there for us to play?

And yes I know, games are for fun. But I like to know I'm progressing with gameplay.

You play the game to have fun. If you don't have fun anymore, stop playing the game. It really is that simple.

.ZOS said they will raise the CP cap from time to time, so there is progress to be made, but I fear, it will not be enough for you guys, you play the game far too fast and too much. ZOS cannot keep up with that, new content is a lot of work and takes many months and you guys burn through it in days. This will always leave you unsatisfied for most of your gaming time in ESO once you hit the CP cap. In this case end game is really end of game for you - like 12 weeks - until the next cap raise is coming and you burn through it in a week - and then again 12 weeks of boredom. This is end game for you guys, was it worth it?-

He is near the CP cap - so this is exactly the situation I described - there is no progress to be made for the vast majority of playtime, once the CP cap is reached. Not for players, who play that much and that fast. Content cannot keep up with that pace.

It's a legitimate answer. You can love a game and not have fun playing it. It's called burn out. If the OP needs a reason to play the game other than to have fun doing it, I don't know what to tell him/her. The literal question is "Why is there for us to play?" Which doesn't make sense anyways. If the OP had fun merely playing the game it wouldn't be a problem. But the OP said that he/she likes to know that he/she is "progressing" with game play. If the OP is no longer "progressing" with gameplay (whatever that means .. it's so general) the OP must not be having fun anymore since that is a requirement for OP to enjoy the game.

    Lysette makes an excellent point.

The OP has 2 V16s and 3 V 3-5s. People zoom through the game as fast as possible because "gotta get to max level!", and then complain that there is nothing to do. I, personally, have been back playing for over a year and a half and still only have one character. That character is V16 with less than 300 CP, and I play almost every day. People forget that it's not about being at the "end" that makes it fun, it's the journey getting there. The OP even admitted that now that the XP is back to normal gains, he/she doesn't want to play anymore.

"what reason is there to grind characters up to high levels when soon enough anything be they vet 1 - 16 will be reverted to fifty anyway?" To which I answered: the reason is to have fun doing it. If you're not having fun anymore why on earth would you still be playing the game?

You say you want to feel like your character is progressing, How does aoe-ing packs of trash feel like character progression?
If grinding is your playstyle of choice, there are countless Korean MMOs to suit that.

If you don't see a reason to grind, don't grind. I got sick of MMOs feeling like a treadmill a few years ago, so I got off it. Now I only grind specific achievements. In eso that's dolmen, monster hunter, collectibles, fighters guild, etc. Othwise, I just play. I'm in cyrodiil, or pledging or raiding with friends and guildies.

You know what cake+grinding got us? A flood of vet toons running around that don't know end game mechanics, and aren't patient enough to learn them, don't understand half of their class or weapon passives, but feel like they should be competitive because they grinded to max level in a week. That's not character progression.

Not really any reason to grind at this point. Just do the aspects of the game you enjoy, and keep leveling your champion points, as when the VR levels are removed, I imagine the CP cap will be increased slightly.

Do you actually like grinding? It's boring as hell, but I have done it a lot in the past to level characters. Personally, I'm glad there's not much reason to grind anymore.

I usually get 1 or 2 champion points each day, just playing the game. Otherwise, if I take a break for a couple weeks, I can come back and grind out 12 CP of enlightenment pretty quickly. Nice to be able to just participate in PVP and have fun without feeling like I need to grind my various V1 - V10 characters anymore, since they will all be boosted to max level with dark brotherhood.

I've been playing since day one on Xbox man.. My first Templar and my first nightblade were v16 weeks and months before the cake. I have done all dungeons and vet dungeons, I've also done all trials except for dragon star cause everytime I get to the final stage it's always 3am and I give up. So I'm not a noob who doesn't know the games mechanics.

I understand, though in my case I actually enjoy doing all the quests again. I'll spend time raising one, then going to another character and mastering its playstyle while enjoying the quests and stopping to admire the view from time to time. Different people are different - in your case there's nothing anyone can say to help you get through your patch of depression with the game, it's up to you to find some enjoyment.

Have you tried playing the market? Maybe you'd enjoy progressing by making gold. Or have you done all achievements possible and collected all the quest costumes and whatnot. Fished all possible fishies up?

Find some way to seek the progression you need to enjoy the game in your own way.

To get back on topic there really is no reason to level those characters other than skill points before the VR system is removed. You do keep earning above the cap tho and eventually they will raise the cp cap.

XP/CP are not the only mean of "progression", or "progress".

    You can... for instance...
    - improve your DPS or player skills in general. DPS meters, timers, leaderboards will measure your progression
    - play the trading game - gold will be the measurement then
    - work for your guild(s) by spending time leading / socializing / recruiting / organizing events

    etc...

Oh okay, ty! Then I'll be ok thank god. I have 400+ I forget which number to be exact. But now that we're talking about it, for those that are VR16 and have not hit the requirement for CPs once vet ranks are removed it seems pretty harsh. Like having the rug pulled right from under you.

@Oldmanlawlor I would strongly suggest to have a break from ESO. You are kind of burnt out, as I see it. This happens in games, which you have played passionately. Don't worry about this now, this passion will come back after a while and you will enjoy coming back and maybe play a new character, try something new. Every character plays differently. I have 11 characters in EVE and all did not evolve in the way, I thought at first. Characters evolve their own dynamic, if you just play along and see the world from the perspective of the character. Role play your character. Do not go for meta builds, do what your character would be doing seen from his/her perspective. It will play differently and you might find that it is interesting like this. Try a hybrid build, play a character who is not the best but rather mediocre and see where this leads you. Play slowly, no rush.

This is what I would suggest, but for now, have a break - it is not good to continue while burnt out. I had such moments in EVE too - I made a break for a couple of months - like most long-term players do it from time to time -, then I came back and was into it again, all good again.

He is not saying he is burned out. hes asking since all this characters will be effectively autoleveled to vr16 once vet ranks are removed why should he level them to VR16 now. He has a point there is no reason to level them other than just to have fun doing it and skill points you earn along the way. His characters will be all the same level basically when its cp determining your level and not your vet rank.

Yeah, I guess a break does make sense. I guess it will save my frustration from building. I love ESO, but sometimes I just cannot justify the comparison of the time we spend vs the rewards or others soon we get. I'm gonna take this as my answer, so thank you. I can easily just log in on a Friday, for example, and not waste my enlightenment by running a dungeon on some of my veteran characters.

My impression was, that he feels desperate - not much to do for his main character and he does not want to play a new character as well, because he would have to go through the same quests again. I know this feeling, I had it a couple of times in EVE within those many years which I am playing this game - it is a temporary burn out, a moment of despair - but this will not last, but he might need a break - for days or weeks - and then come back and decide what to do.

I just took him at his word in the original post. He asked should he continue to level those characters. My opinion no. Altho you do need skill points so you have to do quests on all your characters.

You are welcome, you will see, it will get back to normal after a while.

Yeah I understand, but I am woman, I feel into the words of others and I felt his despair and frustration and he really needed some advice what to do and how to go around more and more frustration building up. That is why I answered this way.

No it is not like this - I had such moments in EVE - when you question yourself, why the heck do I make the next 10 billion isk at all, more money is just even more burden and more stuff is just even more asset I have to care for. Why do I want to conquer these systems, even more systems will just burden me with even more responsibilities, why the heck am I doing this at all. - Such a moment is typical for a burn out, it needs a break from all of this for a while to be fun again.
