Help me, I require aid with my character!

I am having a hard time settling on my character, I have probably deleted over a dozen characters so far. I have my own ideal character in my head, but I need help adapting him into what is actually possible and viable in ESO.

I want my character to be either a Wood Elf or a Nord Ranger/Hunter/Woodsman (So an archer backed up by an axe, Aragorn is a huge inspiration.)
Either a traditional Nord who seeks Sovngarde or a worshiper of Hircine (so probably EP? I keep switching between all 3 factions because I can't decide. Race won't matter here, as I can go any race, any faction.)

I played a druid healer in WoW, so I think I would prefer to heal in groups, though I enjoyed tanking too. Whatever is more in demand, probably. (Templar? Light magic doesn't seem to quite fit. Nightblade? Shadow magic seems to fit even less. Dragon Knight? Dragons and fire, still doesn't seem like a woodsman. Sorcerer? You know what, magic in general doesn't seem to fit that well. Fighter's Guild does though.

I understand my exact build is probably not possible, and even if it is, it is probably not viable and won't get me in groups, so I am asking for help in order to get it as close as possible so I can stop deleting my characters and actually enjoy the game!

Thanks much! This community has been really helpful from what I've seen!

Hi! It sounds like you want to build two very different characters here. These were my thoughts reading this:
I want my character to be either a Wood Elf or a Nord Ranger/Hunter/Woodsman (So an archer backed up by an axe, Aragorn is a huge inspiration.)
Either a traditional Nord who seeks Sovngarde or a worshiper of Hircine (so probably EP? I keep switching between all 3 factions because I can't decide. Race won't matter here, as I can go any race, any faction.)

For this, what you could do is go duel wield or 2 hand on your front bar and bow on your back bar. I'd go with a wood elf nightblade for this as they have bonus stamina regeneration and deal extra damage from stealth so you could make use of the shadow skill line a little. This would be a stamina-based damage dealing setup.
I played a druid healer in WoW, so I think I would prefer to heal in groups, though I enjoyed tanking too. Whatever is more in demand, probably.

Templar healer is probably what you're looking at here, which would be magicka-based and use a restoration staff primarily. I believe tanks are more in-demand though, you could make a Templar tank who could potentially off-heal. To be a tank though, you're probably going to want 1 hand and shield. Bows aren't really going to be helpful for tanking/healing (unless you're a stamina-based tank doing White-Gold Tower and want a ranged weapon for the Planar Inhibitor maybe). You could get away with a Nord for this one, I know excellent tanks and healers who are Nords.

So yeah, it's not really going to be possible to be a ranger/healer simultaneously and be super effective in group content. I'd probably be looking at making two separate characters, a Bosmer nightblade DPS and a Nord templar tank and/or healer.

I hope that helped a little, and if you're PC/NA and go Ebonheart Pact my guild could probably help you out a little more with specifics on builds :). I hope you find a character/play style you like!

I imagine I would go bow for solo content and respec when I am ready to do dungeons, so I think I'll try to combine both roles and go Templar, especially since Nightblade is a little too dark to fit my aesthetics. If I do that, would Nord or Bosmer be better?

    Thanks for your help!

if you want to heal and use bow as well you may want to consider dark elf as they get a bonus to max magicka and stamina.

    (EU/AD) CP501 J'Kara Silverclaw - Khajiiti Dragonknight tank

It depends, did you decide on tank, healer or dps? What roles are you combining?

Nord would probably make a better tank due to their health bonuses and damage reduction passive, and Bosmer would probably make a better DPS though I've run with Bosmer tanks before with no issues (I'd advise going the stamina route if you pick Bosmer, Nord could probably go either way).

The difficulty if you're thinking of combining either of these roles with a healer is you have to be magicka-based to pull it off effectively. I'd think maybe a Nord magicka tank with off heals would be the only way to do that kind of thing.

So to sum up, I'd think the best option would be either Nord magicka tank/healer or Bosmer stamina DPS/tank with the races you've stated. Since you want to use a bow though, I'm leaning more towards the Bosmer as they learn that skill faster and have the stamina to effectively use it. A magicka-based character would have a hard time with the bow.

    Hope that made sense :).

Ack you non-role players make my head hurt....

Although I admit, now that I'm getting the hang of this game a bit, I've been known to pause in delves with groups as we resort our various bars to "prep" for the next fight.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Haha hey I give my characters lore-friendly names and backstories! But I also like to know how I can make them the most effective for their role. Though I make slight allowances here and there, like using an ice staff over a fire/shock staff because I think it suits my sorcerer the best and using heavy legs over the chest piece because I want him to wear robes :D. I regret nothing!

The fun thing with this game is you can play any race and class the way you want, I have a Wood Elf stamina Templar who dual wields, and heals herself as she goes not using the light magic except for Nova ultimate.
