If you could see how much they pay to keep their spots as many of them are losing gold to keep up their traders, but would lose even more if they didn't have them at all. Have to recoup somehow, and rare items are the way to go.

The market sets the price. High demand, not-so-high supply.

Best way to get nirn is:

1 respect and remove skill point from clothing, black smithing, and woodworking skill. Only put a max of 8 points into the first skill of each.

    2. Doing number one will give your crafting surveys to be located in Craglorn and the lush cloth, wood, and void stone from crag surveys have a high chance of dropping Nirhnoned trait material.

It's not rare, just many don't know this. Now you do....now pay it forward by putting cheaper nirn on the market

I believe it is level 9 in blacksmith/woodwork/clothing for Craglorn writs.

That said, this is definitely your best plan. I have two vet alts that I stopped levelling crafting on at 9 so that they can do writs in Craglorn every day. From these writs I get quite a few surveys, and I get a lot of nirns to sell (of both types) from the surveys.

Yeah, shame we get punished on writs for being maxed in the skills. Finding nirn in Upper Craglorn is just so low. I can go days without ever finding it. Nirn should be available on all writs. starting at V14 and up.

To be fair, on both drop rates and guild prices, nirn has always been a good seller and low drop rate. It's actually easier to get nirn now since ALL of Craglorn drops it now, not just Upper Crag. Prices vary by demand. When the trait was bugged, Fortified Nirn was even higher. Potent has always been higher since it has a lower drop rate. It's not fair to blame prices on guild stores...it's all about supply and demand. And, yes, it's a good idea to do the writs. Sorry OP, you may not like it, but things are better for nirn now than they used to be.

Eh, I dunno about that. I hung around at crafting 9 in all 3 branches for quite some time and got no more Nirn off the surveys than I can get now by simply farming the entire zone. Which is to say, there were plenty of days and weeks where my surveys netted none at all.

Can someone confirm if this is true or not that it drops from all over Crag and not just the north? Not that I don't believe you, but this is the first I have heard such a claim.

I picked one up in front of the bank in Belkarth once. As far as drop rates go, timing is everything. I'm pretty sure the servers are programmed to limit a certain amount in a certain time frame and if no one has been hunting in a while the chances of finding it goes up. I have gotten two stones or sometimes one of each multiple times in one node. I've even gotten 3 a time or two (two of one and one of the other). I've also had luck with higher chances when another hunter runs past a node. If they skip it be sure to look at it yourself.

Edit: on a side note, I also think a hot zone rotates around the map. I've come away with 10 in an hour before and other times I've only gotten one or two in two or three hours of looking.

Did this update happen recently? I thought it was only on writ surveys that it could be in Lower Craglorn. I do remember hearing it would be more available, but I just don't recall it announced. Definitely could have missed it though.

Not sure but I think it was when Orsinium hit.

Edit: One more tip since I ain't playing that much anymore. The best luck I had is to go hunting for them right after the servers go live after a patch, It is like the counters reset or something.

That would explain why I missed it. Orsinium pulled me in a lot more than the Thieves Guild. So little content for TG in comparison.

Yep it can be found here PC/Mac Patch notes 2.2.4 under Harvesting:
    Harvesting

Nirncrux now has a chance to be obtained from any cloth, metal, or wood harvested in Craglorn, not just the Upper reaches.

And that's the only nirnhoned item you will ever loot. So really, if you want to research ninrhoned, just buy it from other crafters.

I have two alts who are only at level 9 for crafting. So I do write with them.

Surveys give you the beat chance of nirn.

The drop rates are fine... Sorta. I get a lot of nirn, unfortunately it seems to be a 10:1 ratio for fortified to potent. They should balance them out a bit more I think.

You don't need level 9 to have writs in Cralorn - 7 and 8 level writs are also turned in in Craglorn. 6 is Coldharbour, 10 is Wrothgar (unless you don't have the DLC, I suppose).
