Should multiple copies of the exact same book be removed from the game?

FunkyMunkayya
It is quite annoying that in a single dungeon / area that there will be 5-10 copies of the exact same book tossed all over the place. First it does not make any sense. Second it makes people who actually take the time to earn their achievement feel like they are not real achievements at all. Third it is frustrating to people who actually read everything as the game tips tell you to do, since you are left accidentally starting to read the same book several times while exploring. Sidenote (catering to the needs of noobs ruins games and keeps serious gamers from continuing to play) just my honest opinion...

Sure, because it makes no sense for anyone ever to print more than one copy of a book. One and done, I always say!

I voted no because new people may not find the same book in the same location.Meaning that they might not find it in the same way another player did.
My vote has nothing to do with RP,just availability. :)

What about a dungeon bosses private diary / journal. Can you honestly tell me it makes sense that there should be multiple copies of that all over the place?

Thank goodness they only print one copy of a book. My library at home must be worth a fortune!

Do you have any idea how much work it is to keep all those bookshelves around Tamriel stocked with literature?
    rolleyes.gif

I have a dear friend in the TSOBAL (Tamriel Society of Bookkeepers and Librarians) and he tells me that they buy the books in bulk, which means the occasional duplicate book in a dungeon is inevitable.

The TSOBAL is a volunteer organization and mistakes are bound to happen. After all, they're all just human (or Elf or Cat or Lizard or Undead).

    I'd like a middle ground.

It really bothers me to find the same books over and over again, especially when it's an entire area with multiple copies of 2 or 3 books and nothing else.

But just one copy of each book seems too excessive, or even just 1 per alliance. One per house, castle, cave, dungeon etc. would be about right I think. Enough variety that you're not constantly coming across the same books and checking all the shelves seems worthwhile, but not so sparse that it's difficult to find a book you want to read.

And when I find four or five copies of the same book in the same immediate area, it's obvious that there was a meeting of the local book club that ended in disaster.

Another poll with extra words after the yes or no, which make the poll invalid... Why?

Why can I not say No even if I am not fine with the way it is?

It would be a real shame if they put precious man hours into changing this, when so many other things could use that time.

I like this, but only if it can be a toggle option, because I imagine not everyone would want to be surrounded by glow-y books all the time, and some people may not care to "collect" all of them on every character, so it'd just be a nuisance to them.

So I have to ask then....the glowy books now....not the mages guild books but those others....do they bother you and make you want an option to turn them off?

I'm asking cause I've not seen those threads

If so....would it be such a bother that you would intentionally avoid going to read them?

Honest question cause we differ in opinion

Except I made the wrong choice in this one.

It makes all the sense in the world that there are multiple copies of a book. Otherwise, why have them? You could write down your thoughts on a stack of parchment for all the good it would do making a single copy.

Even in medieval times, multiple copies of the same text were common enough if you were to raid a dozend libraries. Where is the issue?

If you really want unique books that you can read only once... mages guild lorebooks. There you go. And now you also know why they were so desperate to get those books they are sending out random new guildmates in the hope one of them will survive long enough to bring some books back... ;)

I don't even start reading books (aside from Mage's guild Lorebooks) with a character until their main skill lines get to 45. It is far quicker to raise a skill from 5 to 6 than it is to raise it from 45 to 46. So I hold off, and then when I find the skill books, it feels like an accomplishment.

I'm glad there are multiple copies of books, though I would totally support unread books having a glow.
