After reaching level 20 in Legerdemain I don't open them manually anymore as there's no more XP involved and with 4/4 in the proper skill, it's rare to fail

Don't you still get character XP? Maybe no more points in Legerdemain, but you still get overall XP and towards a champion point. I think that I get about 1000 XP in Wrothgar unenlightened.

AS long as the IC lockpick visual bug isn't ongoing ( which it hasn't for at least 2 weeks now ) then I just lockpick it takes like 20 seconds or less to pick a lock...

I used to do all my locks manually, but ever since unlocking the passives it's just not worth my time since I can almost always get it to force on the first try, and except in the rarest situations I can keep going back and re-trying the force attempt faster than the pins depress normally. Costly in lockpicks, but those are easy to find.

My lockpicking skills have definitely fallen off. I used to be able to open Advanced Chests with 1/2 the timer bar left. I started forcing locks for the Lockbox quests with TG because it's much faster and easier to avoid detection if I fail. I logged onto a character that has to pick the locks and it a simple lock took 2 attempts.

Now I pick them manually unless it is a lockbox.

Also, when you force a lock, you get no Exp for that, just the counter increment for the achievement.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

The xp for picking a lock is just too insignificant for me to even consider bothering with. In the time it takes to manually do it, I can face-roll a few groups of mobs and more than make up for it. And as far as legerdemain xp goes, if you are cashing in 100 items a day, you should shouldn't even notice lockpicking xp.

But if you enjoy doing it and want the xp, by all means, do it! Why the game is there IMO.

force locks are great in IC since you don't have to lose your field of vision as long by picking it if you are solo it comes in handy. also for the dungeon with the jailer it is amazing there. sure you don't get the xp for force picking but it can be faster if you have it leveled up

I force locks all the time. If you haven't forced your way out of the cage in vWGT against the Adjudicator, you're missing out. I get locked up in the cage as the tank all the time and I force my way out instantly almost every time. The boss never even gets a chance to attack my group, because I'm already back in the center of the room before she can think of doing so.

If higher level, you would probably be surprised at what you have some skill points invested in and don't even remember that you do.

Anyway, it's a simple decision / is the convenience worth 4 skill points to you? For me it is, others not, game is full of choices.

I use it out of laziness. With 4/4 it rarely fails. Can force master locks without much issue too

Once you've mastered the skill line, it isn't always worthwhile to pick the lock. I'm fairly good at picking the locks as well (as long as there isn't latency/ping issues). The issue is more than a forced lockpick attempt happens more quickly, and might help you get a chest open before a guard sees you. The other benefit is just laziness. If you're trying to rush through and fill a quota or finish a TG mission, picking is nice. Furthermore, the experience points you get from lockpicking is minimal, and if your character has maxed all possible skills anyway, there really is no point. Its about the speedy cash, and when you think about it, that's what a thief is about: Easy money.

I've forced a lock once - just to see what happens. Actually, I can't remember what happened, maybe i'll try again tonight.

I've also only failed one lockpicking session - and that was because I wasn't paying attention.

But I like the minigame. So I play it :-).

Maybe when I start IC, I will invest some points into it...

You should always force locks in combat/PVP. Every action movie ever should have taught you that.

But out of combat (PVE) I'm looking at a 4 second pick on any lock, so I'm going to trust my technique over RNG, because RNG hates almost everything.

I did not know there is an add-on for that. Mixed feelings about it... It's too trivial to be called an exploit, but i personally would not feel comfortable using it :/
