Your Experience With Emperors (Both Sides)

Since I have started playing ESO (PS4 release) only about 10 or so Emperors have appeared on the crosshairs of my screen. Until recently, my experiences from half a year ago were of me and a bunch of random players getting massacred by an Emperor leading his zerg. I always considered them to be this unstoppable force that should rightfully take an entire coordinated small group to kill. Like really, just LOOK at these buffs:
Emperor Skill line
- Increases health, magicka and stamina regeneration while in combat by 100%
- Increases ultimate gains by 100%
- Increases health, magicka, and stamina by 75% while in your campaign
- Increases the magnitude of healing effects on Emperors by 50%
- Increases siege weapon damage by 100%

If I earned these buffs (may happen one day) my theorycrafting self would immediately recognize that you should dump everything into Max Stats and Regeneration over Reduced Cost and Pure Damage. You could even try running insanely OP builds that would normally never work because these buffs would make them possible.

So with this said, it confuses me that within the course of one week I have soloed two different Emperors (one before Thieves Guild, and one after). One of them was a Magicka Nightblade, the other a Stamina Nightblade. I'm not referring to me ganking them, but rather them initiating a 1v1 or even 1v2 (they have a friendly Templar healer) via them sneak attacking me while I stand out in the open doing the /Salute Loop 2 emote. I also killed the Stamina Nightblade Emperor three times

Have you all had experiences with really horrible Emperors? I couldn't believe it when I achieved Emperor Slayer for killing a mildly challenging player whom without Emperor buffs would've been slaughtered within 5 seconds. Former Emperor seems to mean "Zerg Leader" instead when these things happen. Just my thoughts. No offense to Emperors who were legitimately strong players that could take on small groups by themselves. (DK Leap+Steel Tornado Emps--> Deadly)

Basically you found pve emp's who got emo by spamming mutagen in their buff campaign.

The good ones you have 0 chance again 1v1.

Also you really don't need to even bother trying to get regen as emp, your regen will naturally be high and you'll have such a high stat pool.

When i got emp on my magicka nb i had 45k hp, 23k stamina, 65k magicka, 4.5k spell dmg, 3k regen.

My tether was hitting people for 20k.

Or you found yourself on a "get your fancy title and dye" here campaign. (Looking at Haderus EU PC here ><'). I mean that's what people do nowadays on less populated campaigns, just repair walls, do scouting missions with the Battle Spirit 1h passive, and/or ask friends from opposing alliances to feed them AP.

Having been a mana sorc empress on Haderus myself for 3 consecutive weeks and actually defending/trying to make some glorious action on a semi-dead campaign, my stats were op as ***:
Stats as v16 magicka Breton sorc with legendary 5 Kag, 1 Kena, 2 Torug and CP cap:
64k magicka, 37k health, 25k stamina (with tristat food), with 2.1k mana regen, 800 health, 2.2k stam regen (I usually switch my mundus stone to Serpent when I become empress). Spell damage: 2.6k unbuffed.
Also, after getting my "fancy title" I usually switch all my CP in the green tree: 100 into tumbling (to reduce roll dodge and break free), rest in stam/mana regen, as I see fit.

I wouldn't consider myself a good player, but I was able to resist large zerg balls alone, and occasionally burst half of them down (depending on whether I timed my burst or not -_-). In the end, I actually did duel and run around naked with a pet mage build, where my main dps was caltrops and inner rage (that aggro skill from undaunted), and people still couldn't kill me in 1v1. Though I did earn jokingly the title of "worst emp EU" by some EP dudes who weren't intimidated by my clannfear

But yeah, otherwise I've had plenty of experience with emperors that were trying hard and failing. Just check out Haderus, usually it's a hilarious scrubfest there ^^ (read: surprise attacks from an Emp at 2k max damage, emps spamming mutagen and hiding behind equally incompetent friends, sorc emps resolving to overload spam, and one stam build using flurry (which was cute as hell but ultimately ineffective).

The moral being that every scrub can become, and does get emp on smaller campaigns, making the "former emperor" title worthless, and just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.

There hasnt been a good emperor in this game since 1.5

Hell there hasnt been a great one since 1.3/1.4

Ive seen some really good candidates get passed over by noob guilds wanting to farm their "chosen one" up, and then when the "chosen one" gets it, they either completely suck or dont play their reign. God forbid you get emp despite the farmers, they will just abandon you on the ring and you have no support.

Emperor can be amazing, but needs group support and a player that actually KNOWS HOW TO PLAY EMP.'

In closing, too many feels, not enough play to win. Hovaling, Fireshot, Fixate, Naw Sunrest, and Casuale would roll in their graves if they saw the emps of today. Even the better ones like Meth, meth is good, meth is really good (probably the only modern emp worth a crap), but meth is no fireshot or Casuale. (no offense).

Meth was legitimately frightening in 1.6.

And I'll also plug, his emperor ship was short but AoE BBQs emp was delicious to watch. A great player from the old days who was long overdue to play with that power.

One thing about Emp is that one is usually extremely tired after getting it. I know I was a zzzzzzzombie each time.

Another factor is the build. While the Emp buffs undoubtedly improve any build, tailoring a build and play style specifically for Emp can be the difference between a meh Emp and a scary Emp.

I recall after 2.1 launched, many experienced Emps noted that they were not as effective as they had been in the past. Though, I don't recall the details about why. The threads are surely around if anyone cares to search.

Again, regarding Meth, probably the only decent modern emp out there, but as good as he is, still doesnt wow me the way some of the others did back in the day. A really good emperor is a true rarity now, between bads that just try to healeremp and 1v1 honorduelinthesewersemp, its gotten sad.

Again, regarding Meth, probably the only decent modern emp out there, but as good as he is, still doesnt wow me the way some of the others did back in the day. A really good emperor is a true rarity now, between bads that just try to healeremp and 1v1 honorduelinthesewersemp, its gotten sad.

I'd also point out that the emps of yore were playing in a broken meta. Mostly broken classes, higher emp stats, broken skills (some legitimately broken and bugged). Most of the people they were fighting were also geared less properly than they are now, and were less survivable.

But yes, I fully agree that most of the emps we see nowadays aren't worth their salt.

I remember aegon and tom hanks being absolute monsters on chillrend back in 1.6, I don't think emps are getting worse more of just players and groups are getting better at dealing with them

Idk about the 1.3/1.4 part, Asgari was pretty OP as emp in 1.5, never forget that guy walking a line of banners from Nickel to Roebeck, that video is insane. Also are you trying to imply that the great and powerful Alma Ruma is not even in the same league as Naw Sunrest or Fireshot??

Tough to say, I honestly haven't been astounded by any emps in recent memory but I know there are players who would be absolute beasts as emperor but can't because of: time/anti-lag stance/not willing to ap farm. I wasn't an amazing emp but I like to think I hit the same wall as any other emperor does: lag.

It would be interesting to see how long a faction could hold emp if this game didn't bottom out when more than 50 people appear on screen.

It is not so much the person that is emp to me some are tougher than others, but the whole emp system, emp swapping was so bad at some point it was laughable.

Another thing is this whole turtle up to keep emp as long as possible, this is the dumbest thing any faction can do and just makes for awful game play and crazy lag across the entire zone, while another faction takes all your keeps and scrolls, and the reply is we will get it back later with the emp it will be easier, the problem most factions lose the emp to after they get raided.
Emp does not give the faction anything other than a little health buff, you can pretty much get the same thing at a well for 10 minutes, Give me home keeps over emp any day of the week, that supports the factions much more than a greedy emp looking to maximize AP gain. /shrug

I've seen mostly bad emperors, even got emperorship myself (only once, couldn't bother, I value sleeping time more now...), and in all honesty: emperorship means nothing. Actually, it does mean that you got a lot of time on your hands, but that's about it. I was a bad emperor, with a short reign, didn't even know about drinks/food, didn't know anything about builds and a bunch of mechanics, but still had it.

I'd have to fight my ancient emperor alt right now, I would win 95% of the time without a doubt. Experience and knowledge is crushing at that point. I fought some emperors 1 on 1 (just wandering about), and forced them to flee quite a few time. You know an emperor is meh when they deal just as much damage as some good non-emp players.

And next to that, you got the emp I helped to crown (2vX 4 lyfe) that with a 200:1 KDR, who, not too surprisingly, doesn't need emp to destroy people.

TL;DR: emperorship rewards grinding and is in no way a mark of skill. You can be a trained monkey spamming mutagen, or a wall repair specialist, and still get it. And then you got a good player once in a while that 1vZerg casually.
