The Narrative of the Assistants

I have long asked that the items placed in the Crown Store have a narrative to them so they make sense within the context of The Elder Scrolls. This is why I do not own mounts like the fire, ice and lighting horse but I will likely own the Dro-M'Athra mount. Releasing Crown Store items without an intact narrative seems cheap and is not at all what the Elder Scrolls franchise deserves.

The Fence very clearly has a narrative through the Thieves Guild quest line... but what about the Merchant and the Banker. What's their story? Why are they magically summonable? Why are the same people summonable by everyone? Is there any narrative explanation or justification for these items to even exist?

I would appreciate any enlightenment anyone can provide.

They are magically summonable because we are friggin heroes, and now attract a team of loyal followers as homage to our awesomeness.

What next needs to happen is we can spawn campfires and tents, to give these good people a place to rest

If they put an Imagination Scroll in the Crown Store, how would they explain it without using it?
I guess you'd have to use a little bit of your own...

Bearing in mind the number of times a quest NPC has magically summoned a portal sending us back to town I don't see any kind of magic poofing in and out of existence as beyond likely in this game.

Give me a break with that BS @Acrolas . ZOS could smear poop between two pieces of drywall and some of you would use your "imagination" to pretend it's a Club Sandwich.

It's not too much to ask that the developers put a little creativity in their creations. Especially at 5k crowns.

lol. you know, something as simple as a portal opening and them stepping through would have been pretty great @Babylon... would have been easily accepted within the already established rules that have been laid out by ZOS... but the same people being summoned by all players everywhere. That's odd.

If two players summon them near each other does one look different, like certain NPCs do in quests?

I've never seen another person summon them yet...if I ever see another person summoning them I'll summon my own to compare, however I suspect they'd all just be clones.

I figure they're almost stalkers because we're so awesome...like Arena F-anboy (thank gawd they don't talk to us unless we approach them)...and are creeping around in the shadows following us, till we click our fingers.

ZOS has to. I'm playing an MMO... not a game of pretend. You may be ok with using this lame rationalization to excuse anything and everything ZOS does but some of us are not.

Now, this thread is asking if there is any narrative behind the assistants @vyrusb23 ... suggesting me to "pretend" is about as helpful as suggesting someone who is experiencing lag to "pretend" the game is running at a silky smooth 120 FPS. This is what is important to me in this game... the narrative. Just because you don't "get" that doesn't mean it's not a viable thing to be concerned about.

Ok. Then it is really very simple. There is no narrative. Get over it.

And I think that is a problem. And again. Telling me to "get over it" is in no way helpful.

I think you're just upset that ZOS isn't listening to your ideas, primarily because you haven't provided the necessary investment capital to make any of them viable for any sort of development.

You'll never be an architect in their world building and the resentment is probably causing you to log in fewer and fewer times. Let it go. No use obsessing over that which you cannot change. The moon doesn't reflect, assistants come and go, and giants have large sacks of cheese although I've never seen one actually make it.

You know what we call that? Fantasy.

I gave up on the idea that ZOS listens to anyone's ideas long ago @Acrolas, not just mine... but that's not the point of this thread. Don't try to derail it with some sort of personal attack on me.

I haven't bought the assistants and I was/am curious about the story behind them, if there is one. There is no harm in me asking these questions and asking others in the community, who have bought them, for some insight.

Comments like "just use your imagination" is just a notch above trolling as far as I am concerned.

As for the giant's cheese... At least there are mammoths around from which it's made.

Does the dialogue reveal anything about the nature of the banker, like where he's from or anything @Kammakazi ?

I believe these assistants are an original thought waaay back from release when Cyrodil had mercenaries and players asked for PvE mercenaries but Cyrodil mercs were removed right away.....these just lack the combat features

lol. So they're just retired Mercs that can no longer find work in Cyrodiil? That thought is pretty funny NewBlacksmurf .

....when you're in the PvE world, you come across merchants traveling and sometimes those merchant ms have a mercenary with them fighting and you save them. These in my thoughts are the same but now they've successfully completed their travels so now we can pick up one or two as the TG update....more seem to have arrived due to the increase of commerce.
