Is the craftin passives all broke n' s***?

So I have deconned everything on a second character (not my main crafter) just to get up to level 50 in BS, Cloth and wood. But I have yet to put any skill points into the crafting passives, just deconned up to 50. The rate of refinement drops from decon is nearly exactly the same as with my crafter, who is maxed out in passives for each.

Is the refinement drop rate so bad that it's not even worth putting skill points into the passives? I already fired my hirelings; it was like employing apathetic teenagers who don't read instructions. I wasn't getting s*** from them. But the drop rates from refining and deconning has dropped to nearly nothing.

Are you finding the same results with the crafting passives?

Nah, i definitely see a increase in tempers gained with the passives.

As for the hirelings, yep, pretty much a waste of skill points.

I remember when hirelings brought me great mats now they must be shopping at Walmart.

I would like to know the answer to this question as well. I think the percentage of getting a gold mat from refining at max points in refinement is about 1/200 or 1/300 either way it is really low and points into the passive is probably a slight increase, so you won't really feel it. I have one toon that has it for each material type to spread the skill point usage around, but if I just had one toon I would question the value.

Hirelings have been nearly worthless for a long time, but I still keep them around for the slight chance of a gold mat...

    Playing since beta...

I get top tier raw materials on a regular basis from hirelings. Those add up over time. Even my low level alts pull in raw iron ore for me. Last time I looked I had accumulated 200 without even thinking about it and then I was able to refine the whole stack for a variety of tempers. And if you want to get the gold tempers, you definitely want to put points into the refining passive.

Play this game long enough, and you'll get more skill points than you can even use and it's no big deal to take anything that is even slightly interesting.

Yeah, was it 1.5 when they were nerfed to utter pointlessness? I mean there's a lot of times when i will ONLY get like 3 raw mats for cloth/smith/wood, and nothing else, wtf is that.

I would disagree with this. If you have the skill points to spare, I'd get the hirelings. I regularly get Rekuta runes (the purple ones), and get Kuta runes (the yellow ones) every couple weeks. I just got a Kuta yesterday.

Agreed. The enchanter hireling is the only one that fairly consistently brings useable items. But 3 skills points with the WW hireling sometimes would get me 4 Ruby Ash and a piece of Flint. I could wander right outside Wrothgar gates and farm that in 30 seconds. And that's with 3 points.

Alright, that's the new thread subject:
What would you receive if you put only 1 point into hirelings?

    My answer:
    1 Sanded Maple
    2 Lockpicks
    1 Sense of deep regret

My lower level crafters were not able to get any v15 mats from deconstructing v15 and v16 loot. Not sure why - do you need level 50 crafting, 10 skill points in the first passive allowing to use them, or 3 skill points in decon passive?
Skye Cloude - Sorc DPS, Master Crafter. Main, the bestest
Lae Lenne - Templar Healer Trial grade.
Dromede - Stamina Nightblade, she's a newb and doesn't know what she's doing
V'oghatta - Stamplar pretending to be a tank
Ulville Thonvella - aspiring Fire Mage, be careful around her fire sticks!
Dromedaris - lost and not found. Named after a shoe, what else can you expect from her? A proper tank in her wildest dreams
Swims-Naked - too pretty to grind, too silly to quest.
Sun Flair - Dunmer Templar that can't spell for life. To bad she's too broke to afford a name change... Well, at least she's pretty...

I for one wish the hirelings a little more consistently brought you something good! As for deconning I notice a difference b/w having and not having the passives b/w two different charachters. It always comes back to the randomness inherent in the decisionmaking as to what you will get. I'll go through a dry spell and feel like im not getting any surveys for writs then its surveys for days. It all averages out over some frame of time - just hate being on the poor end at times.
Celebrate for life is short but sweet for certain.

    I have two clothiers.
    Both cloth 50
Both have all passive maxed EXCEPT for the research one.

Main char did the traits learning thing.
    Other did not.

SO.. the second one does not CREATE, just collect from hire longs, some decon, writs etc.

So it is VERY easy for me to see with that one how much of the good stuff they get since I move them over to the real maker.

The idea that it's useless for hirelingo bc they don't deliver good stuff does not match my experiences.
