Unplayable FPS and Latency

Thestephenmcraeub17_ESO
Over the course of the last couple of days, I have seen my FPS drop from an average of 20-30 (not the best, but playable) to 0-10 (unplayable) with latency often exceeding 250 and sometimes going to 999+ and staying there for a while. I have not made any changes to my computer or the addons I use in a few months, so I don't think the issue is related to that. I tried disabling all of my addons and logging in, but with the same problems. I tried turning down my graphics settings, but still I encounter the same issue. I'm not sure if anyone else has seen dramatic drops in framerate or dramatic increases in latency lately, but I would very much like to figure out what's going on so I can get back to playing. Thanks in advance!

My specs:
AMD A8-5500 3.2GHz processor
NVIDIA GTX 960 4GB video card
12GB RAM

(tried running the game on both 32 and 64-bit client, no difference)

Try repairing the game files first, make sure there isn't any other programs using up your CPU. AMD CPU's have "bad architecture" so their per-core performance is drastically worst than the identical spec'd intel cpu.

This could also possibly be your GPU dying, can you play any other games fine? Is it just ESO or what? This appears to either be faulty hardware or faulty game data. I know my game starts to crash often eventually CTD non-stop after a while, I have to repair my game files every month or two. Especially after updates.

I did have similar issue with my GTX 960 new Nvidia drivers. i resolve that rolling back to my previous driver. Hope this help you good luck :)

I don't think it's my GPU, cause I can play other games just fine. I recently got Hitman, and that runs great, to give an example of a relatively new game. I'll try repairing the client and checking on my drivers to see if that helps, and will post an update. Thanks guys!

Repaired the game client, launched, still experiencing awful framerate and latency, so the problem must not be the game files.

Before updating, I was experiencing poor framerate and latency, so I updated my drivers to see if that would help. Unfortunately, I am still having the same issue. I suppose I could try to revert back to a really old driver, but that doesn't seem like the ideal solution, considering I want to play other games on my PC as well.

I'm still getting a smooth 70+ FPS, but ever since TG went live my latency has gone way up.

I've been playing ESO since launch with 45-50ms latency.

But since TG dropped, its shot up. It's fluctuating wildly between 80-115ms, with occasional disconnects. The lowest it's been is 67ms.

Not sure what happened, but I think some recent update broke something...

What is your view distance? You can try to reduce this to roughly 30-40 and see if it makes any difference.

Latency is a connection based issue, you can do speedtest to determine your down-/upload speed. If these are low you could contact your internet provider for an upgrade.

Hopefully, if this is a server issue on their part, they at least address it soon and fix it in a patch. Otherwise, I just can't play the game until they do.

My Internet isn't the problem, I ran a speed test as soon as I started to see issues with ESO and my download and upload speeds are fine. Plus, I have zero issues running other games that need to connect to the Internet.

I get random high latency issues too. I mainly play PvE and can understand the PvP issues as that involves many other players. However, even in places like public delves in the veteran areas (other factions area) I sometimes get random but semi-long lasting latency of 999+. I know I do not have the best internet around and at night it falters but I tried running multiple games (ark:survival, hitman and blackops) all at the same time and have little latency issues.

I have seen many posts about these issues but am awaiting the day when I see a Dev come on just to say they are looking into it instead of telling us to lower our settings.

I have been having issues ever since TG dropped. I get bad lag in dungeons, and HORRIBLE lag (almost unplayable) in MoL. Even getting some lag out in the PVE zones. FPS seems ok, but ping goes through the roof.

Also, On my NB, I can't get my medium staff attacks to fire all the time - my character will do the animation, but it doesn't fire and the damage doesn't register. On my sorc, my overload light attacks glitch and do the same thing as my NB's medium staff attacks. She just stands there and twitches and doesn't fire off the attack. Blocking resolves the overload thing for a few more shots, but then it does it again.

    I am on PC EU
    Specs are:
    Asus X99 Pro
    I7 5820k
    EVGA Nvidia 980 TI
    16 gig ddr4 ram

After some further investigating, I believe now that my problem may be a third-party controller app that I use, Xpadder. Not sure if anyone is familiar with it, but it's a program that allows you to customize controllers and use them as keyboard simulators, but every time I start it up and plug my controller in, my FPS starts to drop substantially. Does anyone who uses Xpadder have a similar issue, or know if there is a fix for this?

(and before you ask, I use Xpadder because I like the PC UI for ESO more than the console UI that can't be disabled when using gamepad mode)
