If I see player with inapropriate name

If I see a player with inapropriate name, what should I do? Report or leave the poor player alone? Any chance that my report will be checked?

Recently I saw a player of vet lvl in Coldharbour, with a nickname made from two worst curses* in my native language.
I suspect these names are not recognized by English speaking game[Z]masters, so such player is playing wihout any problems.
But I feel embarassed when I see such players around or grouped with me for dungeon.

* such names are made from words like F*** Wh*** in other language.

The player would probably be pissed off if he got banned or something because he is already vet. But he shouldn't make a char with an inapropriate name in the first place.

Well, this is a community game and therefore if you are offended by someones name or actions then you should not feel bad about reporting them. ZOS does take this seriously.

If you are offended by the name be sure to report it! I've known other folks who had to change their names.. And it was not on their own accord, so I would think these were reported by someone.

Eh, does it really hurt your sensibilities that much? It is just a name, and the player found it amusing to some degree at least. If you are REALLY offended, yes you can report names and yes they do check it, but do you really want to be 'that guy'?

There are reasonable lines when talking about names that are say describing violence, but cursing, or using the words for a name, is a really dumb thing to be bothered by.

Sure, report them. Funny and Sarcastic or Ironic or Sardonic names, that's one thing. A name that is just an insult to whoever reads it (and understands the root language) is something else. ZOS may or may not do something about it, but if it's offensive enough, I am sure they will.

Usually I don't care about player names, but excessively offensive names make me sick. I could leave it alone, but consider the nick is like this player tells you "F***_F***O**" when you read it - you have a right to feel offended. I reported this one, thanks for constructive comments.

Can we have a poll? Because I would certainly say 'leave the poor player alone'. Unless it's something like a racial remark which you feel strongly about, I personally think he's not intending to offend you or people like you and simpy thought of it as a nickname for himself, or his digital character. I saw a player username (not exactly, due to naming et c) called something similar to YourMumsNewFella. I was laughing the entire night, not to mention the fact that he was dancing in the nude with only a helmet.

Just remember, if he's found out about this word that hardly anybody knows about then perhaps he's also from this said country? And if he is, for him to nickname his own character that, he's taking on the word as a reflection of a laugh; he is laughing at a stereotype of a common word that people say to him, or around his culture.

I'm sorry but, I'm trying to think of the absolute worst name possible and still, nothing. I'm not taking offence to a name that is labelled to a digital character that's not being said towards another player. Maybe he thought of this as an immature inside joke that people like you can only read, look at his character and laugh, (maybe roll your eyes if you're more mature than that) but obviously for you to make a thread on this... >_>

One of the names I have used since EQ 1 I have recently found out were slang for a curse word in Canada (something Church based I think) and means "to Bite" in another country but also means in slang something else. It is also a Surname for a lot of people. When I had my mother help me think it up some 18-19 years ago now I just thought it sounded cool. Misspelled Callous as Calliss for Iskar monk, with lots of S hisses.

Best just to report it with a specific reason on why it's offensive and let ZOS figure out if it acceptable in a rated Mature game. Got some wiggle room, but some things go too far.

I think he wouldn't be banned. ZOS forces people who they catch with inappropriate names to change the character's name on log in, afaik.

One of my (female) alts has a rather unusual name. So far, it has only attracted creepy stalkers.
