Addons

Saw a video on youtube [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svfUVcE89N0&nohtml5=False[/url]

Seems like some addons are already in the game nowadays.

Do someone have a good tip for a addon?

And are there some addons considered cheats?

I play ps4 so i don't have the complete luxury but i don't know of any PC players who don't use addons. If i had the addons PC players had i would cry of happy :)

Add-ons have been in the game since beta. There is an API that controls what information is available for add-ons.

Esoui.com is a site hosting a collection of add-ons and has a PC app the makes downloading, installing and updating easy. I use the website to search for the add-on and use the app to actually download it.

Only PC can use add-ons from what I understand.

I did not use an Addon for the first 6 months I played the game. I think I have 12 that I use now, mostly they gather information for me for Quality of Life (merchant pricing, trait research, where the Lore Books are etc) so I don't see them unless I pull up menus. I do use a Minimap addon that is always on the screen and a bar that shows the amount of health a mob has, rather than some generic bar. Other than that, nothing on the screen all the time like some I have seen.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

If you are on PC I highly recommend Advanced Inventory Filters. It has been a huge quality of life improvement for me.

As far as I know any addons that could be "cheats" (or just were able to get information ZOS did not intend them to be able to retrieve), ZOS would change the API so the add-on would break. I really don't think i remember many at all, they are usually pretty good and not cheating at all. The ones I have seen that were intentionally broken I wouldn't even call cheats actually.

If you don't think those are already on console, you are mistaken.

Yup. Macros and bots are external resources. They have nothing to do with addons.

Macros, bots and addons are all entirely different things. For myself, I only use AUI and Master Merchant. AUI because I like the options they give for modifying the user interface and Master Merchant because selling stuff without it is a pain in the butt.

As other people said addons have been available (on PC) since the betas.

As for advice on finding good addons my recommendation is to wait until you find yourself wanting to do something that's not possible with the default UI and then go and find an addon that does it.

There are hundreds of them out there, which do a huge variety of things so if you just look through lists it's easy to get overwhelmed or end up with tons of things you're not even going to use. You could ask for recommendations but different people have very different preferences so you may not get recommendations that are any good for you.

Some of my 'must have' addons are things most people haven't even heard of and certainly don't consider essential (like Binder which lets you save and load keybindings and copy them across characters) and there's others which are considered must-have addons that "everyone" uses which I have no interest in at all. Like anything which adds a mess of numbers all over the screen in combat. I know from other games that I'll never pay attention to them so I don't see any reason to install an addon that will produce them, but other people cannot enjoy the game without it.

    Thanks all for the info!

I don't like that you can get an advantage by "cheats". What is a cheat can sometimes be argued I guess.

The purpose of games like ESO is to explore and getting experience, isn't it?

Then again, some of the things he talks about in the video I find very usefull and would make the game much harder for me to be without.

Like seeing where to go next on a certain quest and knowing what quest you are on right now.

I am very new to this sort of games, have mainly played FPS, and point and click adventure-games before.

Anyone who is found to be cheating using macros or bots is banned from the game. There are no add-ons that allow you to cheat (but there are some that will show useful information that would otherwise not be available).

Most of the addons in the video are obsolete and have been replaced by newer and better addons.

I have several addons I use. If I could only keep one it would be the minimap. It was crazy trying to get around without it. Some are very small/simple. For example:
    - NoSpin just keeps my character from doing that annoying spin when I open menus.
    - ShowHelmInCombat makes my helm/hat appear when combat starts and disappear after it's over.
    - Binder lets me save a key set. I use this so I can load the same controls into all my characters.
    - StatsPercentage which converts a lot of numerical buffs and debuffs to a percentage
    - ShissuLUAMemory is actually pretty important as it manages addon memory automatically. You don't have to do anything or tell it what to do. It just quietly does it job behind the scenes.
    - CombatReticle gives you configurable and reactive reticles.

Then there are the mapping addons:
    - Minimap (I use the wheel with it set to rotate with my character).
    - FCMQT because it's much better than ESO built in quest tracker. I especially like that I can right click on a quest and it shows me a map of where the next destination is, even if it's in another zone.
    - Heatmap I use this to see where I have been. I don't use it much but when I am in some confusing place it keeps me from going over and over the same ground, re-looting the same buildings, etc.
    - Destinations because I hate hunting for my quests and stuff so this just shows me where to start them. YMMV.
    - Lorebooks, Skyshards, CraftingStations, and Harvestmap because, as I said, I hate hunting for stuff. If that's your fun don't get these. Note that I generally leave Harvestmap turned off unless I'm looking for something in particular or farming. Turning on all the Harvestmap categories can be a huge hit on performance, and it's compounded by minimap since all those pins have to be displayed there too. But when I need to find e.g. ore or herbs it's great.

I use two general interface addons:
    - Azurah which basically lets me move any info boxes on the screen anywhere I want
    - Srendarr which gives me a configurable display of buffs and debuffs with timers and such, mine and my target.

I don't use full inventory management, just these:
    - Dustman which auto junks stuff I have specified, and auto sells all junk at the next vendor.
    - ItemConditionAlert which displays armor bits when they get below a set threshold in durability, so I know when to repair/recharge.
    - GreyMindQuickSlotBar which lets me swap my quick item with a single keystroke.
    - Swaps which lets me change out an entire loadout at once (armor, weapons, spells) but not in combat.

    For merchanting I use these:
    - MasterMerchant gives me info on pricing items. This is the standard for pricing in guilds.
    - AwesomeGuildStore lets me sort stuff in the guild stores, do detailed searches, and quickly find what I am looking for because, as I keep saying, I hate wasting my time searching for stuff.
    - PriceTracker nuff said.

Finally, for crafting I use these:
    - KhrillMerlinTheEnchanter makes enchanting easier and take a lot of guesswork out of it, but has a few glitches that cause me to turn it off when I deconstruct glyphs.
    - VotansRuneTooltips small addon that takes the guesswork out of runes without have to flip back and forth to a web page.
    - CraftAdvisor actually runs from Windows, not inside the game. It pulls info from MasterMerchant and prices armor and weapons you build so you know what to sell them for after you account for mats and such.
    - ResearchBuddy2 which tracks which traits have been learned by which characters. If you are training multiple characters in crafting this keeps you sane. Also lets you know if your crafting characters need for research an item one of your toons collected.

That may seem like a lot but I set toggles on most of them and keep them turned off except when I am using them. This mix represents a lot of experimenting, trying and discarding various addons.

I did use Foundry Tactical Combat for a while until I learned which of my attacks was best, which sequences worked well, etc. But once I figured it out I turned that noise off. And ESO now has combat text but FTC has a great log so you can see exactly how effective each of your moves was. Note that you won't want FTC and Srendarr active at the same time, and you will want to turn off ESO's combat text if you use FTC.

IMO most of these should have just been built into ESO anyway.

Depends what you call cheating, I mean all the big streamers run addons that tell them when to block when to dodge and when to use ultimates which to me takes the player out of the game and its now just following instructions but each to their own.

"Active Combat Tips" in the options of the default UI displays some of those messages also.

I play with the UI completely turned off, therefore anyone who has it turned on is getting information that I don't have and is therefore, from my perspective, a cheater and exploiter.
