Armor question (pvp)

I am returning after about a year of not playing and have found some things quite different about the game indeed. I have a Nord stamina-based DK and have always used heavy armor for pvp in the past, however medium armor seems more appealing to me now. However, I also want to have my character look good and be lore friendly. (I play for fun and keep my toon true to character so I am not trying to have the cookie cutter ultra-high dps magicka builds everyone is moving towards) To me the nord heavy armor is way better looking then the medium armor. So I was wondering what would be the difference between a heavy set of armor with DPS enchants vs a medium set with health and survivability enchants. Is the heavy armor viable at all or should I go with medium. My goal for the character is to have decent dps (I know it won't compare to some pure dps builds) with a little more than average survivability (mostly using the DK's extensive defensive skillset.)

I would appreciate any advice

You should take a look at the medium and heavy armor passive first, link here.

The dps difference between heavy and medium is huge but you can mix armor types and still be effective.
You can wear a heavy chest+helmet and medium for the remaining pieces for example. This way it still looks like you're wearing heavy armor but you get the benefit of medium armor passives.

For survivability in pvp you want to have at least 4 pieces (I personally prefer 7 pieces) with impenetrable trait.
S&B and 2H is probably the best pick for weapons on tanky stam DK build.

Not wearing 5 medium will put you at a severe disadvantage damage wise. I can't tell you the exact numbers but it will affect stamina recovery & cost and weapon damage & crit.

If you want to wear heavy for the looks then I recommended just doing the chest and head (or legs if you don't show helmet). Then do the other pieces in medium as they're barely identifiable.

You may have to have a look online at what some of the styles look like, though, just to get the most heavy-looking medium armour you can.

Just an FYI - most medium chest pieces actually come down to the elbow, hands are only the forearms and shoulders sit right on top. So I imagine it would be the same for heavy as well.

Alternatively, you can buy/unlock heavy armour costumes so if you wanted to run all medium whilst still looking like heavy.
