Spell dmg vs Max Magica

Im not good with mathematical formulas so i hope someone can explain this to make sense.

I know for my sorc that my damage comes from max magica and spell damage. What i dont understand is at what point does one become more meaningful than the other? How do they generally affect each other? I change mundus stones from atronach to mage and do not notice much difference.

My build has ranged magica: 37k-41k and spell dmg: 2900-3600
1300+ CP | Lørd Wrath | - Sorcerer - Palatine - Grand Master Crafter - 30000 Achievement Points
Launch Player - PC - NA - EP

I went from a spell damage build to a magicka build, and I will never go back. My Crystal Frag tooltip (un-procced) is around 14K either way, but my Hardened Ward is 14K in PvP with a magicka build versus 11K with a spell damage build.

It's a no-brainer, in my opinion, to stack magicka instead of spell damage, but some specialized builds may favor spell damage. Obviously if you are using something like Molag Kena 2pc, you are going to want to double down on spell damage.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

PakKat "Everything was going well, until I died"
Gary Gravestink "I am glad you died, I needed the help"

    To save you some reading:

10.46 Max Magicka gives the same damage increase as 1 spellpower

all you really need to know for comparing gear

**At least thats the way i understand it

Apparently magicka also has the benefit of strengthening shields if you use them, while spell power does not.

Also, more magicka increases your mana pool, meaning you'll run out of magicka less often. Spell power again has no effect on your mana pool.

Thats what im leaning towards, currently choosing to run kagsx5 worm cultx3 and arcane willpower set. Pvp my shields are 12.5k with 41k magicka and 3k spell damage. What sets do you run with how much magicka to get 14k?

At the moment I'm running 4 small pieces of Necropotence, 3 large pieces of Seducer armor (Infused trait) with a Seducer staff, and 3 pieces of Willpower jewelry. Everthing is upgraded to gold. My Mundus stones is the Mage, of course, and I use the Undaunted passive that increases max Magicka when you wear 3 types of armor. I also have either Bound Aegis or Inner Light on my main bar. I tried using both, but you give up too many slots.

Keep in mind that while in PvP max magicka gains more importance because of ward, for max damage spell damage will always be king.
129 spell damage with max buffs will always outperform 967 max magicka with max buffs(with the exception of the emperor buff)

I tried the math on this once, and around a total of 1,800 CP max magicka will always be better

That could be true, let's check in game though see you in about 6 years:) All jokes aside I have serious doubts that this game will make it past 1000 CP if they keep it at 51 per DLC.

Shhhh!!! 99.9999% of players I hear mentioning stats will go on and on about how amazing their weapon/spell damage is when saying they're gods of of PvP. Of course, they totally neglect their terrible Max Stats, Regen, etc. This is the reason so many players are not so good at PvP.

In the case of Sorcs especially, know that they should be going Max Magicka instead of Spell Damage to be extremely powerful in PvP.

Also, hope that V16 Necropotence arrives one day. I'll drop 1,000,000AP a piece for a full set! :) Not sure if V12 is worth it, but also haven't tested.
