I'm not saying I have the answers. Of course if you'd reset the map 4 times a day, emperor and scoring would have to be revisit too. I think if you bring the game's cycle closer to the actual dynamics that would actually make the game more exciting, because then you can win 'your'" cycle in the game. You'd know what you got at the end of it. And if people wish to nightcap? So be it, but at least you won't wake up to a monochrome map and you'll have your cycle to fight over.
