Can someone explain the reasoning behind multi-day/week campaigns?

Isn't it a bit like reserving an hour for a game of noughts and crosses? If a typical length of a fight over an actually contested map lasts a matter of hours and gives way to monochrome maps and nighttime flips, would it not make more sense to reset the whole map 3 or 4 times a day?
Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

    Short duration engagements is something that will be addressed with arenas/battle grounds, RvR has to happen over a long time or it sort of loses its value.

    I feel like this is where you aren't understanding what RvR PvP is, sure individual fights may only last a few minutes to a few hours in certain keep sieges, the overall campaign is intended to simulate a war which happens over a long time consisting of many battles. The one individual fight is what a traditional battleground is intended to simulate.

    If the map and I guess leaderboard resets every 6 hours why would you take a keep? Why would you try to push and crown emp?

    I think the OP is on to something.

    I am really sick of the night capping. The 4 AM emps and other sorts of stuff.

    I wish there was a way around it.

    I'd wager the original idea was for a faction to gain emperor and hold/defend that emperorship. Having a 30 day campaign to hold/defend/recapture if necessary sounds like a good idea on paper.... someone has emperor and 2 other factions are trying to take it from them. The players however changed all that with nightflip PVDooring, emp flips, buff servers, uneven campaign numbers, etc etc. At least in the case of the week long Campaigns, the score consistently resetting means it's that much easier to get end of campaign rewards faster. If it was every few hours tho... it wouldn't feel like there's any progression. With the week campaigns I can kind-of judge my own progress using the leaderboards and it resets week to week, whereas if it was hourly, it's harder to track and why bother trying at all when in a couple hours your progress is wiped? the 30 day campaigns feel like too much time is required for investment.

    I'm not saying I have the answers. Of course if you'd reset the map 4 times a day, emperor and scoring would have to be revisit too. I think if you bring the game's cycle closer to the actual dynamics that would actually make the game more exciting, because then you can win 'your'" cycle in the game. You'd know what you got at the end of it. And if people wish to nightcap? So be it, but once the night cycle is over, you'll have your cycle to fight over which won't start monochrome.

    Unless those resets were changed and reset the whole map, the nightcapping would be the exact same as it is now, if not worse. I could easily see a faction Dominating the server, and then gate camping for a few hours till the next reset, and essentially attempt to farm equipment.
