Templar Tank

Hello dear community!

I just have posted a huge question on the german forums about being a tank - also would like to do it here to get as more replies and ideas as possible!

Just to explain to you my TESO-Starting story first:
Me and a buddy started at the same time - he took an Orc - DK - Tank - I picked Breton - Templar - Heal.
We together quested until level 14 - then together (without any other group members) grinded through all dungeons and became v1 by this - lots of fun !!
We now are switching the roles - I would really like to Tank and my buddy already took the same as I did - a Breton Templar Healer.

I actually always pay a lot of attention like what kind of passives the race has and so on - at this time, I just picked the Orc without paying much attention to small things. I just think, the orc matches perfect into a Tanking role..

Anyways, Ive really tried to get some nice builds or just any kind of information before I created the orc - I although could not find anything really helpful for me, so I just started playing the tank.

Ive now made an "Orc - Templar - Tank".

Ive now made some small dungeons and 2 Vet Dungeons (v16) - Ive tanked until the end, everything went fine.

Still I am wondering about lots of things (really new to the tank - always played DD or heal on other MMOs).

Question #1:

What should I really skill?
Magicka / Stamina / or Health ?

For now, I have skilled 50% / 50% on Magicka and Stamina.
Ive did so, because I think I need spells that require Stamina, also I need some, that require Magicka!

But is such a mix even really useful? And if so, in what relation ? (50/50 ; 70/30 ; ... ) ?

Question #2:
Is the Templar really a tanking Class? I mean by now, I could say you can go as anything with Templar - the class seems to be able to do pretty much everything.
Still I have the feeling, that the Templar is more a defensive Tank ?

Like that if I would like to play more the "DMG-Tank", that Id had to choose the NB or Sorcerer (or DK)..
But even if Id choose one of the other races - also there, I need magicka and stamina, how to split ?

I do not understand how people can go "full magicka" on a tank, when you need a sword and shield (which requires lots of stamina) .. ?

All this, leads me to my main question:

Question #3:

What are really the main Tanking skills / spells ?

For now, I am mostly using

Puncture - this taunts the target up to 15 seconds to be focused on me - I guess thats what a tank is supposed to do ? To drag all the attention of the enemys on himself, so the rest of the group can do its work - healing and damage.

So I am asking myself:

If Im in a dungeon, I see a horde of lets say 15 mobs and I have to use "puncture" on every on them so about 15 x times, this at the end will have all the enemies on me (went pretty good so far), althought, I am really out of stamina and have only magicka left, which then I am using for the DMG.

So at the end, ill make a summary of my questions:

Question #1:
Stamina + Magicka (50/50) Mix really useful?

Question #2:
Which class would you prefer for a Tank and why ?

Question #3:
What are the typical needed spells for being a Tank ?
a) Weapon Spells (like puncture - which else ..? )
b) Class spells (which spells from which class are going to be good for a tank) ?

I also would like to add the question, to which weapon I should switch and why, but I think Ill be able to make a descision about this once Ive got some of the questions above answered.

After creating my Templar I first was desperate - is Templar the right choice? But I think at the end, a Templar can be used for pretty much everything.
Althought when I heard about NB or Sorcerer Tanks I got really interessted in those, sounds so much different, but really possible ?

Sorry for putting so many chaotic questions into one topic, I just hope to understand more of the tanking theory..

Thank you very much in advance guys !

1: Full magicka for templar tank. maybe some health dependent on race.

2: Imperial hands down for health and stamina.. Or RedGuard. both have best tanking racials.

Sorry misread class as race for some reason :O lol. However I think Teamplar does make a pretty good overall tank as it can heal at the same time.

    1) If you're a stamina tank, don't bother. If you're a magicka tank, you'll need stamina anyways so it's fine. I'd suggest you to go with a magicka tank though if you're a templar.
    2) Every class can tank pretty efficiently, but I'd choose sorcerer because I like shields. The go-to class for tank is dragonknight though.
    3)
a)For weapon abilities, you'll probably want puncture, although Inner Fire from undaunted is a pretty good substitute. Defensive Posture and it's morphs have a very nice passive by slotting it, so you might also want that.
b)Not too sure, but I guess it would be these:
For Templar: Radiant Shield, Puncturing Sweeps, Rune Focus, Breath of Life
Sorcerer: Hardened Ward, Lightning Form, Bound Aegis, Encase
Dragonknight: Hardened Armor, Chain, Igneous Shield, Choking Talons, Dragon's Blood
Nightblade: Sap Essence, Siphoning Attacks, Funnel Health.

Caltrops and Inner Fire are all pretty good abilities, you might want to take a look at them.

You don't want to taunt every enemy with Puncture. Just rush into battle first and lay down caltrops or an aoe CC(encase, talons) and let the other players do the rest. Generally it's not even necessary to do much other than spam aoe damage abilities for normal enemies. You really want to keep the boss taunted though.

I run a dunmer magplar tank. All heavy armor. Most points into magicka. Some into health (to get to 20k). I use my magicka pool for jabs/damage so I can help out more rather than swinging a limp noodle of a sword. Also, to pop Blazing Shield and sometimes Repentance or BoL if the group is a little askew and healing isn't the best.

My stamina pool I reserve for Taunt, Immovable and blocking. I'll slot a charge as well to get on enemies quickly if they get away from my taunt.

Does quite well. Immovable plus Blazing shield makes you pretty hard to kill in dungeons.

While i'm on my healers, i like magicka sorc tanks a little more, but I just want someone who knows what he is doing. If the question if what I prefer to play as a tank, i'd say Magicka Nightblade. Cause of siphoning attacks + i like to add some dps and some healing with funnel health :) I like magicka sorcerers tanks too cause of the shields and the CC.
