Lying Tanks

Yeah, I also have a nb tank. And have been kicked from pledge groups for that :D
But that only saves me from bad groups I think.

That hasn't happened to me yet.

My Stamina NB is DPS or Tank depending on which gear I wear. I got tired of not being able to find groups so I added in Tanking. So far I've successfully Tanked every pledge except vCoA, vWGT, vICP and vDarkshade. Those 4 I haven't tried yet.

When it comes to group finder you just have to be harsh and judge the book by its cover.

If you aren't a DK then I'm kicking sorry. Not having a sorc in all light armour trying to tank valkyn skoria or a stam NB who thinks he can do it with the immovable heavy armour skill.

I know these classes can pull it off but only skilled players can that wouldnt use the group finder at all i dont think

I saw dk tanks that died all over the place. ;) Dk has magma armor ofc, but it only lasts 10 seconds and any good tank uses war horn instead anyways. Chains are also useful, but not all average dk tanks are using them.
Any class can tank, and imo nb tank is even easier to play and sustain than dk. And yeah, I have both dk and nb tanks.
Speaking of kicking players for their class, I actually find this "elitism" hilarious. I'm a decent player (all hardmodes cleared, except vMoL, have a Flawless achievement and good DSA score), but I still pug sometimes. Despite popular opinion pugs do not have to be a noob ghetto, sometimes its just a way to meet new people and sometimes guildies are not available. ;)
And sometimes I was getting kicked for being a nb tank. :D Even though this nb tank got Ic dungeon achievements before the nerf and doesnt need any stamina support. Im not offended, I think in these cases I was kinda lucky to avoid scrub group.
So... Good luck with judging people by their class.
Same here. Playing, and mainly tanking, since beta with MoL, HRC, and AA under my belt (not the most impressive achievements but then I'm also a roleplayer and so my time is split between PvE and RP) and yet I still spend most of my dungeon time with pugs. It's great when my guildies are online and we can create the perfect team (and when we do manage that it can be a thing a beauty with how well we know each other's builds), but they're not always online when I am. I've had just as many great pug runs as bad.

What I find amusing here is someone saying that skilled players wouldn't pug, yet they kick random tanks who aren't DK's. Which would mean that they pug, because where else do those random not-DK tanks come from? Which would mean that they are - by their own logic - not a skilled player. Which would then lead to the natural question of 'So where do you get the idea that you're skilled enough to judge someone else's skill on class choice alone?' Logic, it's a beautiful thing when used properly... or rather used at all.

I sort of gave up on running Undaunted group dungeons because healers and tanks in pugs cause us to fail so often. More often than not they couldn't stick to their role without spamming attacks.

On the other hand, you have people whine and complain if the healer and tank aren't also doing a bunch of damage. Of course lots of random PUGs are confused, because they get mixed messages.

See people complain of healers that can't keep them alive yet these people make no effort to aid in their own survival, like moving out of the big red circle...having had some bad experiences in pugs even with the right classes I generally take my tank into them, at least it gives me a modicum of control over what happens, though there are some dungeons I just won't pug, city of ash and the ic dungeons, just not worth the time and hassle with pugs.

    Best post ever.

I'm a Nord DK heavy armor 2w dps + 1h1s tank. I'm using heavy armor sets to do some dps as well as tank but when it comes to trials you just can't tank in that. You really need some extra resistance on you and blocks and things. You don't have many issues in the other dungeons (never tried icp or wgt) unless the dps is too low to nuke certain bosses for instance vcoa crocodile dundee.

I don't like the need to have Tank, healer and DPS and people's reaction when youre not exactly one of those. Just get a group together, if if works great if not live and learn.

OK, but I can tell you that a high percentage of the Random PUG groups running non-vet dungeons would NOT work without a Healer. MY guess is it would be the same or worse for Vet Dungeons. So why would I even TRY such a configuration??

Show of Hands, who would like ZOS to give us the option to queue for random dungeons in groups other than Tank, Healer, and 2 DPS?

If so, would the options be:

    A) Standard (Tank, Healer, 2 DPS)
    B) Tank free (Healer, 3 DPS)
    C) Max Damage (4 DPS)

    ??????

Yesterday I ran a Random Dungeon as a DPS. The "tank" was shockingly bad. They never pulled the boss. They often (mostly) used a bow. And they died easily.

I ran this dungeon with a friend. They agreed with me about the "tank". After much thought, we believe this was a DPS, who claimed to be a tank to get into a Random Dungeon quickly.

Thoughts? Anything we can do to prevent this in the future?

My honest advice after being kicked from a normal PUG because I wanted to complete the dugeon quests but the one guy who just happened to be the leader only wanted to do 3 bosses to finish his Undaunted daily....who was also suppose to be a tank but was a light armor mage with a destruct staff and we had no healer...that was his friend who was also DPS.

Just keep posting about it in the forums but maybe ask that ZOS think about this differently

I know there are ways around this but I would like to see some sort of check on your character when you go into group finder. Maybe some sort of check for health and spell/damage resistance for tanks, damage, crit chance and/or magicka/stamina for DPS and whatever stats/tools healers use (I don't know anything about being a healer).

I know you can change your set up to get into the group finder and then swap it around once in the dungeon but it would reduce the number of people who could be bothered to go this far.

Unfortunately that would not work as some tanks like sorcerer tanks stack magic not health and stamina so they can get big Shields, the same as dps would. Same with healers, they both require higher magic for dps or healing. Plus there are many variants of all for example I tank in medium armour with no issue at for pledges (wouldn't rely on him in icp though, for that I have more conventional gear set up in the bank.) So as frustrating as it is there is no way to fairly do what you are looking for, the only way you can avoid the issue is friends or guild groups.

True that. Well here's a guide to making friends.

    1) Go to zone chat at the undaunted hub of your faction. Ie ( if your AD, this would be grahtwood. Or you could try rawl).

    2) Advertise yourself in zone chat, or look out for the countless PVE guilds recruiting.

    3) Now that you are in a guild, form groups within said guild and run pledges. Most guilds have fairly decent players that are far better than random pugs. + most guilds have a ts server so that would help out newer players who need voice chat to communicate in pledges. (ie: when doing vet coa/wgt/iCP for the first time etc)

    4) Determine the players you like to play with from said groups over 1 or 2 weeks. If you find someone you particularly enjoy playing with, dont be shy! send them a pm telling them how frigging awesome they were and if you can add them to ur friends list.

    5) Repeat step 3/4 as necessary until your friends list is packed with good players who dont needlessly F over your 15 min pledge runs into 1 hour wipe fests.

There we go. You'll never have to pug ever again.

All of my best runs are with one class groups i.e. Nightblade Tank, Healer and DPS. The general roles are for weak players if you need a Templar to feed you stamina you have low/ poor sustain, if you need to use a "Tank" class then you can't tank.

Sorcerers have a Dark Magic passive that heals for 8% of max health when dealing damage with that tree that's a powerful heal that adds DPS, 15% ultimate cost reductions, 35% heal from one of the pets (yes they suck still but a 35% is a huge self heal for a tank with high heal), 20% Health and Stamina recovery buff 10% for magic , 5% magic and stamina cost reductions with cheap one hand and shield powers plus CP cost reductions really. Lighting Form AoE damage plus Major Resolve and Major Ward Heavy Armored Sorcerers make powerful Tanks even if you live in the Box passives like that are weak when you have 14k health but when you are rocking the Tank normal 30k it's a whole new class.

12 players sorry but still its a rudimentary crap group dynamic and lazy development to make trials a dps race with Puddle avoidance. I have not touched a trial in over a year. and only play the game at short intervals with long breaks because its not emerging at all. Its a stupid design to make 10 roles DPS 2 heal and one DPS swaps to heavy armor with a taunt for a couple bosses.

I have gotten players who queue up as all three roles are usually moderately bad DPS.

I leave the group and explain to any player in there besides the offender that queuing up for all three roles is a jerk move that screws groups if we're expecting dedicated roles. If I'm lead, I kick that person with the simple "Don't queue for a role you don't play" in group chat before the kick.

Sure, there are dungeons that you don't "need" a tank for, but for some of us, the 4-man dungeons are our favorite thing to do, we like having 4 man groups that are nice and balanced and fun, it's the next best thing to doing a dungeon crawl in D&D and I don't need or want some tool to ruin that for me. Now, normally that's not an issue, I just put pre-made groups together, since people always want helmets, but I like to get my 100k exp too so now and again I run into those philistines who think it's ok to do something like that.

And do you actually check to see if they can do all three roles before doing that? I know I've got 2 characters that I swap between the three roles just by swapping my gear and slotted skills. Give me enough time to hit one key and do a weapon swap and I'll switch to being a dedicated tank, or a dedicated healer, or a dedicated DPS.

Last night on the normal pledge, our tank was a DC Sorcerer with a Destruction staff.

I sent him a message to taunt the boss. He proceeded to use his staff to execute bash attacks.

Needless to say, he was ill equipped to do any role. :)

I will say also.. No! not say. Scream it loud - LYING HEALERS!!

Realy, it is not funny to taunt boss, keep aggro on packs, heal myself, heal party and got privs "can You cast buffs?"...

Really. If Healer dont heal i leave group after first boss.

I though that also. "Just 2 aggro skills? Easy game" but later... There are many tactics, builds and really "well tanking" is not HOLD BLOCK AND TAUNT EVERY 15sec
