Are vet ranks really being removed?

What I really want to know is if they will raise the max CP level of gear. As many have said, the current plan appears to be making 160CP max level (of course players can still obtain CP beyond that), but will they eventually raise the "max level" by 10-20 CP like they'd been doing with Vet Ranks?

Personally, I hope they do not periodically raise the max level of gear to 170CP, 180CP, etc., but rather continue to create new, interesting sets of gear all maxed out at that 160CP threshold.

It has been mentioned that the CP cap will raise a little every quarter and I would be extremely surprised if the gear cap does not continue to rise gradually in the same way it has since launch.

When the CP cap rises, the algorithm for earning champion points shifts by the same amount, so it will always be easier to catch up (you earn CP faster when you have fewer than the cap).

I know the CP cap will continue to rise, but I want to know if the maximum level of gear will rise. I'm not at all concerned with the time it takes to gain CP, but rather the amount of time and resources required to obtain new gear for multiple characters if the max gear level increases to, say, 180 from 160.

The gear cap will likely keep going up in the same way it has since launch. This has always been the progression of how new gear sets and dungeons are introduced into the game, etc. I can sympathize with the cost involved each time it goes up, but doesn't seem likely it would ever just stop progressing and stay permanently at the same level, especially since the maximum CP cap will continue rising.

On the bright side, at least your progress will be account-wide, so you won't need to grind each of those characters individually

I am sure they are tempted to sneak in one more Level Cap raise so they can steal everyones gear and make everyone re-grind and re-gear again.

V18 anyone? Maybe we can make V18 gear cost 500 mats each. That would be fun!

I really wouldn't mind it. With a level cap raise comes not only more mats but new sets, so may be more diversity. Now v18 with no new sets? Now THAT would be horrible and nothing more than artificial life-extension of the game.

With a level cap raise means that all old sets, AND the vendors that sell those olds sets, don't get updated so there is LESS gear diversity.

So what there are some new sets pumped out? They will only be available in the one DLC that comes with the level cap and you are forced to buy the DLC and grind to be at max level.

So what? That's business right? There's more to it. That means that EVERY endgame max level experience you enjoyed before is now no longer endgame. Less things to do because only the latest DLC gives the latest gear.

This is EXACTLY what happened with the Imperial City release. Suddenly All three craglorn trials didn't give max level gear, DSA didn't give max level gear. Many PvE guilds dried up and people lost friends and had to wait two DLC cycles for another trial.

New DLCs should mean that the game keeps expanding and we now have a vibrant engame experience with 4 trials to pick from!! Nope! Due to ZOS's refusal to update old content and increasing level caps, we only have ONE endgame trial now.

How do I know they will do this again? Because they are anything if predictable.

When they raised the level cap from V14 to V16 in the IC DLC, we were given THREE endgame jewelry sets! Three. We used to have 15. Some diversity huh.

TL;DR: Raising level cap KILLS gear diversity and shrinks the endgame experience due to ZOS's new business model. It is the worst thing possible for the health of the game.

Which is funny you mention all this because they didn't want to have increase past level 50 for the reasons you listed.

    Ironic.

Why not just get the gear you get scale to your cp. For example if the max level gear requires 160 cp and you've exceeded that, why not just scale all the gear you get to your cp.

Chaboyyyhd [EP]- Altmer Sorcerer - AvA 9
