Will actual performance ever be a priority for this game?

I'd love to see it for before and after the lighting/anti bot patch. Must have dropped hard.

As long as we have people keep forking out money to ZOS, there's no incentive for them to fix anything. Make your $$ matter by not giving it to them. Then they will wake up and start fixing the issues.

They need to step it up in the mount department, I've seen exactly one person sporting a camel. If they can't even get the cash grab right, I don't have much faith in the rest.

I've been playing this game for about 6 months now and for what ive been reading here in the forums and experiencing myself, the answer is NO unfortunately. In the beginning I could not believe when people said the lag had been going on for over a year without any updates to make it better but after 6 months playing and nothing added to the game to fix it I am now getting really frustrated with the game and just to get worse, today I was kicked from the game in a PVE area (Deshaan) for the first time due to lag (latency). This whole situation is just sad.

The problem with that line of thinking is that you're assuming those 'performance improvements' in the patch notes actually correspond to real performance improvements in game. =\

Let's hear your ideas then, OP? What would fix the performance?

Obviously removing all wildlife from Cyrodiil.

Honestly though; code optimization, server upgrades, removal of certain nonsensical skill special effects, removal of AoE caps, rewind whatever the hell they did in the infamous "lighting patch", etc.

I'm no game design/developer genius, nor would I ever claim to be, but there has to be something they can do to help reduce the latency/performance issues that plague this game. What I listed is just a conglomerate of other ideas I have heard thrown about. Other games of similar caliber do not have these kinds of issues consistently. If other developers can figure out fixes for their games I do not see why ZoS cannot for theirs.

The real question is, why can't we have that now?

It is my opinion that the lag and fps issues started when anti-cheat-hack checks were put in place that scans internet game packets for ESO. Before patch 1.5 my pings were 60 or so MS and after those patch my pings are 120 to 140 ms. Just my opinion and theory though we will never really know.

There's nothing inherently complicated about the things that are being done in ESO, but the scale of the battles just require a level of code optimization that hasn't been done.

It's pure and simply just a matter of fixing the code on the technical side of things. AoE caps removal might help the game and simplify the issue a bit as well, so I'm all for it.

Yup I bet it's AoE Caps that caused the majority of the lag, as the thread someone made showed that the server takes in more calculation due to the AoE Caps as opposed to not having any. If the game didn't have any AoE Caps the server will have a lightened load due to it not being in it's calculations and players who are balling up dying much easier.

A proof of that now is someone rocking VD running into a ball zerg and ending them because first comes a lag spike (due to calculation) then boom everyone starts dying and the lag gets reduced.

1.All and any wildlife needs to purged from cyrodill. Goats, squirrels, deer whatevs. Blow them to bits.
2.All pve stuff needs to be blown to bits too.
3.while we're at it; let's remove keeps as well. They probably cause lag too with all those people using doors and all.
4.yaaay. The only thing left in cyro is vast open fields with some walls and hundreds of player playing a counter-strike style gameplay. Mag builds wearing VD are the terrorists with bombs and the stam builds are the counter terrorists trying to frantically avoid/kill the proxy death bomber men. With no keeps what are we fighting for? No one knows but hell hopefully this is within capability to solve lag problem.

Come on, you can not just remove keeps because people use doors. It took them years to make doors finally work, it is one of their two..err...few true successes.
The other being fixing reflecting spells so it does not drain resources; it was fixed in ~1.4 to universal acclaim, so they fixed it again in the latest patch, and again the fix has been well received by dragon knights.

It's not just in PvP anymore either. For a long time now, even on the 64-bit client there is an eventual framerate drop after playing for a while. I always start out at around 50+ FPS, but then after about 20 minutes it drops in half and the game just starts to struggle, at which point it sometimes crashes. There is definitely something weird going on there.

Let's just first start off by saying that I'm super stoked to see the progress ESO has made since launch, and overall I'm pretty pleased with the game.
But let's be frank here, performance has never been good in this game. Even highend systems can't cope in large battles, and outdoor zones generally just have worse framerates than they should.

It's very very clear that there are big memory and threading optimization issues with this game. And it certainly seems to extend to the server-side of things the way we are seeing Cyrodiil performance just tank with every update.

Please, will performance ever be an issue? The FPS is not supposed to tank so heavily just because 20+ players are nearby. So many other games and other mmos are able to handle a large amount of players, so surely there are a lot of underlying issues with the code.

Is performance ever going to be a priority? It hasn't been at any point in the life of this game. At a certain point you're just gonna have to spend a lot of dough and get some proper C++ gurus in there to fix the horrible CPU bottlenecks. I'd venture a guess that this is also what's causing the lag in Cyrodiil campaigns, if the same programmers are working on server-side code.

Please please, can we have some proper feedback that you're actually actively acknowledging that the game performance is way lower than it should be, and that you're making performance a real priority, rather than just keep adding new content, making the codebase larger and larger without what i presume to be some pretty major refactoring and optimization steps to take to actually fix the engine.

No crown shop and optimism will fix the performance.

investment would be required from ZOS to improve performance.

thats not a joke but it sure is hilarious. you think that they have a budget for improvements? or they even care? They dont even test their products before release.

im pretty sure ZOS have never seen an XBOX or a playstation or could even describe what they look like. if they have a PC it probably works with placard cards. They only have 1 Mac and its used by ZOS bunnies to troll this forum.

Their hotfix hotbroke the game. So a big NO. They prioritize selling more boxes by doing more DLC's although they don't realize that they'd sell more when they do a large scale optimization to the game and sell DLC's after.

This would result to better performance and then would result to better reviews then more boxes.

Sort of what I was looking for, just some sort of proper commitment to actually optimizing the client and servers.
