The Fourth Runestone

I was questing in Abah's landing when I found this book called Enigma of the Runestone on one of the book shelves. I remember seeing the name of the book before but i did not read it and I could never find it again since I did not complete the Mages's Guild so that I did not have Eidetic memory to remember the book. This time I have it and decided to read it this. The book discusses that the rune stones are a mystery and that they know of three categories of rune stones but one guy thinks that there is a possibility of a fourth rune stone. He called it "Celerity" but he could never find it. I find this interesting and wonder what would be the applications of this fourth rune stone. Even though most lore books always have some air of mystery, I just cannot help but wonder if ZOS is going to add a fourth rune stone to the game in the future. I think it is a interesting topic for discussion and I wonder what you guys think the fourth rune stone would do?

Well, "Celerity" means "Swiftness of movement", which is an essence rune that currently doesn't exist in the game. It could allude to the desire to have included a "Swiftness" essence rune but was put off due to the number of skills in the game and item sets that can alter the speed of you and your mount already. I think back to when you could stack Night's Silence, Vampire's stealth speed, Rapid Manoeuvres, etc to run across the map in the blink of an eye. Now that these have been addressed, it is POSSIBLE we could see a swiftness rune sometime, but I would contend that it was a rune that was going to be in the game but didn't make it in.

Could be but the lore book claimed it as a completely different category of rune stone that could be use with the other categories like Potency, Essence, and Aspect.

Didn't Rich talk about big changes coming to Enchanting in an interview recently? Just heard about, not what he actually said.
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

Ah, yeah, I should have been clearer. I got on a roll with my thought and neglected to state that it's what I think happened as far as development went but perhaps when/if they decided to cut it from the final game as a potential essence rune, it was instead mentioned in this lore book to cover them for "future use" if they should ever to decide to add it at a later date. But as a fourth stone in a category of it's own.

OR, a thought that just occurred to me, Celerity as a category as mentioned in the book, perhaps this 4th category could affect the speed of weapons when used with additive potency, cooldown of set bonuses when used with a subtractive potency. Something like that. Thinking of Celerity as an entire category gets complicated when you try to apply it to armour when armour itself and their enchantments don't have a sense of speed about them to be altered. Speeding up a weapon? Well, we already have a trait for that. And I doubt you'd want to slow a weapon down by combining it with a subtractive potency. As a category, it has me stumped.

Yeah, this is actually a tie in to one of the enchanter hireling storylines.

If you actually read your hireling mail, they'll swap between stray musings and serialized stories. They also switch to a second set of hirelings after a couple months. After you finish the second hirelings, you'll get a standard form letter every 12 hours.

The second enchanter is a vampire who muses about collecting rune stones, and occasionally laments her love life, or encounters with vampire hunters. One of the later stories (actually, it might be the last one) has her being asked to extract a celerity rune.
