Vet 16 sorc staff

For best pvp results, what enchants should I add to my staff as a sorc for pvp? I am using fire on fire and fire on resto now.

I've also heard nirnhoned is great, but precise is better for destro. My plan is precise destro and nirn resto.

For vma i was planning to make two swords nirn for my damage bar.

Any input or other suggestions? Thanks!

I would suggest nirn on the destro as my understanding is that it provides the best results. Also in PvP, most people prefer sharpened to precise as most players have some way of minimizing critical hits and therefore you would want the penetration from a sharpened weapon instead of precise.

As for enchantments, after talking with a few folks just today, it was suggested to me that if you're a sorc, you would probably want a lightning enchant or magicka return enchant on your staves. Magicka return would help with sustain but lightning would benefit from sorc passives. Enchantments on the swords don't really matter as you generally won't be using them to light attack or otherwise proc the enchants.

Personally, I'd go with lightning on the destro and magicka return on the resto w/ no enchants on the swords unless I had no other plans for my runes or gold.

It goes maelstrom staff by a hair in some circumstances over nirnhoned, then nirnhoned, then sharpened I believe.

I also do the dmg/restore magicka enchantment

Nirnhoned for destro staff (for the penetration), precise for resto staff (for the heal crits). Befouled enchant on destro staff, return magicka enchant on resto staff.

Nirn used to be the undisputed go to and is always better than sharpened. Its the same bonus just a little more. Precise is much better than it used to be, or more accurately, Nirn is not what it used to be. They changed the way they calculate spell penetration, so its not as big of a benefit any longer. If you are fighting someone that is not stacking Impen, Precise is actually a bit better. So the real answer is, depends who you are fighting. In PvE, it is splitting hairs at this point from what I can tell. I run a precise Maelstrom, but that is not an option for everyone.

Edit: Befoul outshines lightning as a sorc because the extra damage from the enchant is irrelevant in this case, since you're comparing secondary effects, the reduced healing taken from befoul is great and maintains pressure much more than a few hundred extra damage from a lightning enchant

Unless as a sorc you proc your Disintegration passive. That's upwards of 10k to a low health target.

Overflow damage is absolutely irrelevant, if an opponent is low health against you they're dead. Especially since you're weaving staff attacks with your execute.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go with the following

Nirn destro with lighting (for the chance of desegregate)
Precise resto with asorb magic (does precise apply to shields too?)

If anyone disagrees or feels anything will work better (for hardest hitting and hardest shields) please chime in!

Edit - I don't really "heal" with my resto, it's more a shield/buff bar. Would precise still be ideal for this?

It seems like disintegrate procs on shock spells, not all shock damage according to the tool tip. I don't know if a lightning staff or a shock damage enchant on any staff/weapon actually procs disintegrate or not.

I suppose if you had a staff that could desegregate who you are attacking and yourself.. maybe you can end all this bitter fighting!

@Aletheion, it procs of anything that does shock damage. Did a test with everything I can think of that had a shock element to it. Haven't tested it on the overwhelming surge 5th bonus proc which surrounds yourself with electricity like thundering presence does. But since thundering presence procs it I don't see why not.

Lexypwns is right. Befoul > all.

In fact, if you want to talk lightning enchants it's much more useful for the destro staff skill's secondary effects and the fact that the enchant's secondary effect and certain detro morphs can set enemies off balance, which some of your group's class skills and the CP passive can give a damage bonus against. But that's working at the group-wide theorycrafting meta level, and as anyone who watches the disorganized activities of most in Cyrodiil not many are thinking at that level.

Course, the organized groups will generally wipe the noncoordinated whenever they please and you'll have precious little time to evaluate what exactly just happened to you.

1v1 is not PvP and healers are the primary target- always.
