✭Some missions were extremely horrible. Trying to remember what zone it was but I hated the whole zone pretty much. The one with the forest King and you make a queen. The writing doesn't always indicate that you made the new forest leader a woman!0 -

Honestly, much as I disagree with the OP, some of the later dominion stuff, Greenshade and Reaper's March, are kinda spotty at times.0 -

At launch The Secret World had some pretty sharp writing in places. Technically, it is a different genre, because that was Urban Fantasy, and ESO is High Fantasy, but still. That said, their writing took a serious hit as the game went on. ESO's actually been getting better.0 -

can we be real here? the writing in eso is damn near horrific. every piece of the plot is spoon fed to you. there are even some cheesy one liners from time to time. i get that they're trying to make this game safe for kids too, but even a 13 year old could understand and write better than what eso writes. they went with quantity over quality for writing and quests.0 -

Can we be real here? I've seen what thirteen-year-olds actually write. It's way worse than this.
Videogames trend towards bad writing to begin with, because (most of the time) you're looking at game designers who want to tell their fanfiction grade stories, and think they're being deep and profound. Not always, there are some professional writers working in the industry, but very often you're looking at writing so bad, it couldn't make it to cable TV.
MMOs take this especially hard, because it's just not a good venue for storytelling. At least, it's not a good venue for the kind of storytelling most game developers trend towards. You can't tell your Hero's Journey, using Campbell as a coloring book, the way you would in a single player game, because the illusion starts to shatter the instant you remember that idiot in zone screaming racial slurs is also "the chosen one, destined to save the realm."
And, yeah, ESO suffers from this.
That said? No, this is pretty good for the genre it's in. It's got issues, chunky dialog, stuff that doesn't quite work. But, as MMOs go? It's better than you'd expect.4 -

You're exaggerating a bit here to make your point. As I said, it's not fair to compare it to some of the grade A writing in a single player title, and in the mmo category it doesn't get much better. This is just kind of an accepted fact in mmo's, quantity over quality as far as in depth quests and dialogue goes. The real meat behind story and development is supposed to be left to the player, forging his own story, as cheesy as I know that sounds.2 -

The story writing is good for an mmo, but like many others have said MMOs fail in comparison to a single player rpg. Always has and always will be that way.2 -
