Well if we're not getting a Wardrobe System-...

Outfits are a cash grab that distract from the potential of our community's imagination and passion for the world.

There are not enough outfits available to properly portray a suitable level of variety in roleplayers. I have been in groups of RPers where everyone was wearing the same color of pirate pants and belly dancer outfits. It's not immersive and it's not fun to see people wearing the same thing you're wearing. If they were even dyeable, it would be easier to stomach, but they're not... The first big win for roleplayers, being able to dye our armor and clothing to our liking, does not apply to what you're serving up as a second win, these outfits, that rob us of the chance to forge our character's identity, something at the heart of every RPG.

Outfits are not a replacement for a Wardrobe system like Rift and Star Wars: The Old Republic use. The supply will never catch up with the demand, and for months to years we will continue seeing people looking exactly like each other.

I made a thread about this before, but as I returned to the game for the Thieves Guild content it's bothered me enough to bring it back up.

Think of all of the styles that go to waste when we're covering our armor with one of maybe 20 different outtfits. Think of all of the dyes that we've earned through achievements. Wasted-... just completely tossed down the drain.

BUT...

If we're not getting a Wardrobe system. If you feel Outfits make for a better source of extra cash. I've thought of another compromise...

Reforging.

Buy Spheres:
20 Spheres of Reforging = 100 Crowns

Obtain Style Mats and Use a Sphere:
Drag Armor or Weapon into Slot 1
Drag Style Material into Slot 2
(For Basic Styles 5 materials will be used. For Rare Styles 1 material will be used.)
(Rare Style mats would need to be treated by a crafter that can create all items in that style.
...For example, you could give a Laurel to a master crafter, they could treat it for maybe a 1k gold tip... Return the "Treated Laurel" and you could use it with a Sphere. Treating Style Materials might have a cooldown, or crafters might have a max number of Treatments per day.)

Click Reforge and the item's style is changed!

(Bonus points if you can separate the tiers of Basic Racial styles into new Style Mats. For example... Chipped Bone, Bone and Sturdy Bone for bosmeri style gear.)

It's unlikely they will want to change their outfit system to something better, sadly. But here's a suggestion for improving the current system:

Allow players to create a custom outfit from their currently equipped gear using an Outfit Creation Token

How this would work is that you would get your gear how you like it, motif style, dye etc. Then go to a crafting station, vendor or kiosk and use a token to have this gear converted into an outfit. You would keep the equipped gear of course and stats would be irrelevant for this purpose. This outfit could then be worn over the top of any other gear, just like any other outfit.

It's not a full wardrobe system, but an adaptation / extension of the current outfit system.

The Outfit Creation Token could be Crown Store only, or ideally also available to purchase or earn in-game.

    Premade Costumes Need to Stop

That was my original suggestion in the linked thread, essentially. xD

    Costume Creation Scroll: 500 Crowns
-Consuming this scroll will save your current outfit's appearance and turn it into a Custom, Re-Nameable Costume accessible from your collectibles menu. The costume will never disappear, but after 30 days it will become Locked, at which point you CAN delete it. To unlock your costumes you will need to use a Costume Recharge Gem, making it accessible for another 30 days.

This definitely needs to happen - atm the costumes we can buy, while some look nice and have great lines and details, most are bland in colour and desperately in need of dyes to make them look alive.

As for a wardrobe system - just make a new interface that holds all costumes, and collected disguises from quests, and laundered stolen pieces of clothing and let us click them all on with just a click...at the same time removing them from taking up a slot in our bags (same concept as what has been done with the old quest trophies).

Al I read was CROWNS! Like if the regular player that also support the game but in minor scale by only buying DLCs didn't deserve the chance to change his/her style other than craft everything from scratch

The mimic stone should work like a store "token" to "copy" the style of a piece of gear and then you use it to craft a new piece and it would look the same as the gear you copied. ZOS just lost a chance to make lots of money with it.

To NOT make crafters and motifs less valuable, once use, the stone should also destroys the piece it copies. So you have to pay for the stone on the store with real money, and need to buy the gear from a crafter or learn the motif yourself.

No.I wouldnt want to have to keep unlocking what is already mine. There is already a ton of locked costumes in the game. They have to be earned. If I pay for a costume,I want it to be mine. Not have to pay for a "costume recharge gem".
I'm not flaming you or anything.I just dont like the idea of not being able to use my costume unless I pay more money.

Ah my apologies, I didn't read the linked thread.

However, I don't like the idea of having to keep unlocking a costume every 30 days. If I pay Crowns to create an outfit / costume, it should become mine, permanently. The Crown Store would get repeat sales from people making new costumes (I'm sure many player will want to create a range of costumes). Don't over-complicate it with 30 day rentals etc.

I agree, it would be nice for a more customizable look. The biggest thing I would like is to be able to dye current costumes.

Just a note, you mentioned SWTOR's wardrobe system, keep in mind, that didn't show up until several years after launch.

I'd love to be able to dye my costumes! It's always a bit sad running into someone wearing the exact same outfit in the exact same colours. Weapon dyes too while we're at it, because changing my costume to the blue I'd like it to be is going to clash horribly with the bright green and red weapons I'm stuck with :D.

For now, I'd be satisfied with a simple transmog system.
Something that would work like this:

You can change your gear appearence with any of the previous tier item by using some kind of token obtainable via game or store.
You can only use this token with one motif branch; but if you want to change from, say,
Argonian to Imperial, you'll have to acquire another token on top if the other one.

And maybe do something similar to trait discovery but with an aesthetic purpose, so that you can acquire a unique dropped set appeareance and use it as you want.
The reasearched item would be destroyed in the process, of course.

I'd love to be able to dye costumes, or to unlock disguises for my account instead of having a character wardrobe mule. And to be able to apply different amor styles to gear.

We need more armor styles, role-play/lore-play gear, and costumes!

I don't get what would be the point of a costume becoming locked and needing to be unlocked. To make it more costly? To implement some kind of throttle to the collection?

    No one likes spending money.

And I'm not exactly super eager about that part myself. However, I felt they'd feel as if they were losing income by letting us make our own outfits instead of spoonfeeding us new ones every month or so. If people looked how they wanted they wouldn't buy as many costumes-... The locking and unlocking of custom costumes was just to sort of compromise on that.
