Thieves Guild problem,I think.

If I cant beat the timer in the Heist quests,will this mean that I cannot progress in the Guilds ranks any longer?I cant even tell if I have finished the main questline.

    Level up your thieves guild skill line, you'll unlock new quests. The heists are side quests and not necessary for the questline, you don't even need to beat the timer to complete them.

    I've picked up pretty good exp and loot from the heists and never once beat the timer. And I still gained 10 xp towards the thieves guild ranks everytime I turned in a heist without beating the timer.

    Update:
    I finally finished the main Thieves Guild quest,and got the assistant! I didnt even have to do the Heists.I got a note from Ziera and did the last quest.
    Yeah,I do the side Heists and never use the darn timer.Now I wont even think about.Although,I wonder what you get if you DO beat the timer.

    You get a box with a random set piece as well as the usual stuff.
    At least I think it's always sets, that's what I've gotten.

    I beat the timer a few times,loot is about the same unless RNG screwed me. Maybe it was supposed to be a leader board thing for the timer?

    No,it isnt a leaderboard thing.The timer is a race kind of.If you kill someone you have time taken off and it goes fast.

    Which lets me off the hook.I tend to feel like I failed since I can never beat it.So I just ignore it.

    you dont get a set item if you fail the timer.
    also you aren't making progress towards an achievement

    You just keep doing it over and over,and getting paid 332 gold. So,no,I dont get a set piece,but I do get gold.

    You mean the troves? They dont hav quests,but they sure do drop set pieces.Before the nerf,I got two full sets and the weapons too.
    Shadow Dancer and Night Mother sets. Now,you can still get them,but not often.I like what they DO drop now.

    no i mean the heist quests, i ran some and beat the timer=purple box with a curse set pc,gold,edict,etc
    ive also run some without beating the timer(you also have a mini boss guy at the end of the heist to beat this might affect the loot as well)and i get the same purple box with gold and occasionally a set pc or edict.

    Right,I get those too.Not a lot in them,but its fun still.

    To answer the original question, if you don't beat the timer, you get 10 TG rep. If you do beat the timer, you get 20 rep. So beating the timer doubles your rank progression.
