Tried some PvP in cyrodiil today, how do people stand it?

I keep reading about how performance is poor in cyrodiil, and still was amazed. Ping was constantly north of 300, fps was dreadful, and it felt like the only way to "play" pvp was to spam abilities and hope for the best because there's seemed to be no option to skillfully react to stuff.

If that's not enough, loading screens were unreal.

As a PvE player this doesn't affect me too much because i'm not going back in there but kudos to you PvP'ers who are enduring this. I'd be long gone from this game if I were a PvP'er.

I love PvP in this game. but what you're saying is 100% correct, the lag can be so bad that enjoyment goes straight out the window. that's why i hate playing primetime.

Try to play earlier in the day if you can. that's when it's most enjoyable.

Ty for a least going and looking instead of being one of those turn-your-nose-up-in-the-air-just-remove-pvp people.

Many are leaving but we have stayed this long out of hope, I guess. It really was awesome at one time.
I got hooked on it. Never done pvp in any game before. Now I'm at least an AVA fan.

It grows on you. PvP is actually pretty good during the times when the ping is okay. There needs to be one more CP enabled campaign.

When I do play pvp, (which isn't very often to be honest), I always play either in mornings or early afternoon since there are fewer players and I'm less likely to encounter these problems.
I learnt the hard way, playing in an evening is just not fun for me either.
4-5 minute loading screens, huge lag when fighting, it's a shame because I really enjoy the pvp in this game and I would love to engage in it more often, but I just can't because of these performance issues.

I guess all we can do is keep reporting the problems, or maybe ZOS implement a diagnostic tool for us to report in game too.

I understand that PvP performance has declined with every patch including the recent thieves guild. Wouldn't remain too hopeful if I were you :x

Probably shouldn't at this point, it doesn't look like there's going to be any real solutions unless they rewrite the code.
I guess I'm fortunate to not be a pvp only player and there's really nothing out or coming up that I'm interested in.

I never sit down and play the yellow tree with the tower picture show without a proper ale or a bottle of wine!

And truth to be told, since TG I can't enjoy pvp anymore. Random loading screens in combat made my pvp experience consists the following: 1.) loading screens, 2.) riding to action, 3.) lagging/loading screen in combat -> die without a single action I could do -> repeat. I continued it for hours and hours but finally I gave up and started to drink properly. So all in all the night ended up well :D

pvp is very playable atm in Azura EU.
No CP removed alot of lag (or was it leaving all those ball groups? :D)
Even poplocked you can play under 200 ping.
FPS drop in big fights, but thats more my PC than ZOS servers fault, so everything is fine.

Can i give you an advice OP?
Go in the Azura campaign, as a pve player you will love the more balanced ( no CP) set up and the less lag.
NEVER,NEVER GO IN TRUFLAME EU you will see the worst of this game all togheder.

The issue is indeed prime time! However, last night I was playing on Haderus and was pleasantly surprised at the performance even with all the factions pop locked. I was able to play properly even with red and yellow Zerglings running around.

Since I only like really large battle, I accept that if I PvP, there will be a lot of lag.

On the other hand, the lag last night didn't seem as bad as the lag a few months ago, though it was really bad. A few months ago the game seemed to be updating the battle every 1.5 seconds. Now, the game is not very responsive, but not to that degree.

I played azuras star religiously for one full 30 day campaign. I made top 20 So I could some gold gear. A lot of effort for a few pieces of gear which most were well-fitted. I won't be doing any serious campaigning again any time soon. On top of that I was kicked to blue screen probably around 100 times during this month.. And no I am not exaggerating

Well, I did not believe some of the guys when they told me that it was hacks causing the lag. However, I saw it for myself. They are using programs that they aren't suppose to use. I have been in big battles where the lag was minimum, but have two hacks come along and just the three of us cause nothing but lag.
You know who they are, because you cannot kill them. They have admitted to using cheats to people that actually defend them as good people that "usually do not use the cheat".

I am a believer now. You know when they are near, even when well hidden. You can be alone and suddenly you started pinging out. Until admin does something about them, if they actually can, this will remain the problem. The bigger the battle, the more likely you have some around.

It gets even worse if you have played this game long enough to know how PvP USED to be before ZOS made changes to client/server/lighting and destroyed performance.

PvP used to work fine with 3x the population of what we have now. For those new players that just got into PvP now, this is how PvP used to be. Weep for what has been lost.

Giant battles AOE and PFX everywhere. No lag.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vmmQVheKOk

Skip to 2m 9s. Just look at those numbers!!! This was before pop caps were reduced. No lag.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DV9TwsosyI#t=2m9s

    More massive battles. No lag.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUzFW0Y11BM

Pre-emptive argument to hamstring the revisionist history apologists: NO, the performance wasn't better back then because people weren't using aoe, and didn't have max level characters. That argument has no merit. There are plenty of aoe effects, (talons, negate, steel tornado) that you could get very early on and the game didn't lag even in AOE spam. One of the later PvE patches killed PvP. Not aoe. Though having not aoe caps initially probably helped performance too.

that is stupid to say. there are no "hacks" in this game. the thing you mean is macro keybinds, and it isnt different from normal weaving/animation cancel what everybody can do. It might be faster cancelling but its nothign that makes ton of lag, cos every good player animation cancels at least some attacks.

And if you see somebody that uses macors in pvp, its msot of the time an easy kill cos pvp is evry situational.

The big lag producers are AOEs. The more aoes there are in an area the more people are hit by many consecutive aoes, the more work the server has to do and send to every client in that area. so sure there is more lag. its logical.

So stop spreading that "hacks"/macro produce lag crap, cos its not true. macros cant do what is not possible in the game, and everybody can learn to animation cancel.

Agree, but since lag seems to be strictly tied to map population and its hard to have good battles on empty map - pvp in ESO is very rarely fun.

20 minutes of riding to get anywhere? That's ridiculous, it shouldn't take more than 3-4 minutes tops to get to a fight.

    1. Use the transit system. Sometimes you need to send a shout in /zone to get team mates to help cap resources around a middle or home keep to link the transit network.

    2. Stupid question: You feed your horse right?

    3. One of the first alliance skill abilities you get is 'rapid maneuver'. Slot it when you plan on running to a battlefield, your horse will haul ass and get there 40% faster. This only takes a couple of hours to earn now.

    4. Unhorse far from a battlefield or keep, and stealth. That way you'll find where the group fight is before getting ganked by an enemy group all alone. Sneak around until you find the fray and jump in.

    5. Stay a little off of main roads when alone. Be careful when passing gates, stealth through.

    6. Best survival tip ever: type 'LFG' in zone. Usually you'll get a group. Stick with the team, fight, and don't over-extend yourself. Heal and res for the group if you don't know how to PVP well, pull out a siege weapon if you can and lob fire into a Zerg.

PVP is fun, just pick a campaign that isn't overloaded. Try out the tutorial missions you get, and learn how to use siege equipment and repair kits.

Yah those are the big problems you mention.

But the spamming and unskillful play only applies to the zerg wars and massive keep seieges. If you want skillful play don't follow the zerg, set an ambush at a travel route or do a roam looking for traveling people. Go to the quest cities and do a mixh of PVE and PVE with the random encounters, this evenhappens in dungeons there. but don't go to the massive zergs and expect skillful play.

    Guys I need help, really.

It is possible that my computer isn't good enough for this game anymore - but what happened? I mean I could play pvp with almost zero lag everytime before TG. And the loading screens? They became too oft and too random. What could be the problem? My comp became weak and I should buy a new video card for it? I donno, I just want to find a solution.

So you say if the loading screens get common, that means my comp is weak?

It's not your computer. Almost every patch that ZOS has introduced to this game since launch has degraded PvP performance and framerates. There was a time shortly after the introduction of Craglorn that everyone's framerates were single digits for two weeks! Loading screens mid combat never happened before but now they are frequent. Imperial City introduced the "infinite load screens:"

If you still think it is your computer, turn your graphics settings down to low. If that helps your FPS any, then maybe some of it is your computer, but its the server latency that is the real problem and that is server side, not client side.
