Dear Console, High Weapon/Spell Damage ≠ High DPS

My experience:
Needed a DD for a pledge and this guy, a Nightblade (of course) approaches and says "bro my wepon dameg is 4.8k" and sends me a screenshot, and I'm like okay. He's obviously in stealth to get the Master Assassin buff, but I guess I never knew that you could perma-stealth during boss fights to get that buff. During the dungeon, what's his only move? Surprise Attack. Absolutely nothing else, no DoTs, no Caltrops, no Volley, no Twin Slashes, nothing. Ended up kicking him after 2 wipes and group queued another person to finish it.

Probably a PVP ganker thinking he knows all. Although weave and sup attack is probably the best dps you need to chuck out barrage and or caltrops at the same time and stay in it. I'd bet 100k gold at 25% health the boss would just get a good old shanking from killers blade over and over lol. Was this fungal grotto yesterday?

No but I've been seeing a trend, at least on PS4 where stacking WD/SD is the absolutely top way to go, which of course, isn't.

It also goes to show that without the proper tools, like damage meeters, people are going to put all their eggs into the basket that at least looks like it means something...

My normal rotation is Siphoning attacks, Caltrops, Arrow Barrage, ambush, then weave light attacks with Surprise attack. 25% below is Killer's Blade.

Ambush before any ultimate.

Is this rotation frowned upon? If so, I'm unaware and would be confused why. It is great DPS.

This is more or less what I do, but don't forget your major brutality buff and relentless focus for more delicious DPS.

This is more or less what I do, but don't forget your major brutality buff and relentless focus for more delicious DPS.

I use a potion for my buffs... Very expensive so I'm always picking flowers

No, your rotation is good (do you use buffs though?) key difference in how you describe your rotation though is that you use dot abilities. And im not sure if the guy described in the op was weaving.

I play on PS4 and sadly that is the state of affairs we deal with on a regular basis.
Getting a high weapon/spell damage is important but so is your rotation. If your rotation is trash, then so is your DPS. No amount of SPC/Powerful Assault/etc. will change that.

No, you actually have a Rotation. Its when people rely on one or two skills only is when they get into trouble in challenging content.

Problem is the horribads suffer from tunnel vision, and dont think they do anything wrong. very unlikely they cruise the forums either to improve their game.

No, you actually have a Rotation. Its when people rely on one or two skills only is when they get into trouble in challenging content.

Every once in awhile you see someone spamming WB in dungeons. Always in PvP.

It's beginning to port over to PC now. Yesterday I was looking for a last DD for a pledge and someone whispered me their weapon damage. Ended up not being the worst DD ever, but not the best either, by far.

I'm sure you're all nice people but the smugness coming out of this thread is quite pungent. It never ceases to amaze me how toxic PVE only dungeon runners are for the entire community.

Sct wont help much because they will just see that one really big number every now and then. I remember this happening a lot in Diablo 3, but it can't really be helped, just appreciate his mad dps

Edit: I mean we all made these kinds of mistakes in games like this at one point or another, it's a phase before they realize how to more effectively produce damage
