Grinding from vet 13 to vet 16.

After I was done the Cadwell's gold and the expansion stories I was at vet 12. Took me very long to get to vet 13 because I was well you know playing the game normally.

Thought I should speed things up a bit so I bought some xp scrolls and went grinding. Omg that was the most tedious annoying and boring 6 hours of my life.
Why is grinding like that supposed to be a thing?? Why not have the fun parts of the game give much more XP so i can be enjoying the game and progressing the same time??

I really wanted to create multiple characters and level them up, but the way this game is... no way in hell!!

I know they plan to remove vet ranks, but I sure as hell hope they don't replace it with something simillar. Oh and please remove them asap, they are just a usless waste of time that don't add any fun to the game, but drives people away!!!

Vet ranks are supposed to be going in next dlc, Dark Brotherhood. The Champion Points are going to be the new system and since they are account wide, any alt you get to 50 will be fully leveled when that comes in. So feel free to start setting up alts and doing the lower level stuff now :)

You may have missed some stuff along the way. I just finished my 5th Vet character and he was V15 after finishing Wrothgar.
I hear you about the grinding, puts me to sleep lol.

adding: Use your vet now to get CP built up. You'll be given some (around 40 is what we've seen) when the change comes but CP is going to be your key now. Do all that daily stuff!

    wtf
sure grinding is faster than doing normal stuff, thats like this in EVERY game out there. doesnt matter if singleplayer or multiplayer. If you want your max level fast, grind, if you want to do the content your level then do the zones in order and then pvp or do vet dungeons.

nobody forces you to level up 3 vet ranks in 6 hours, you can just do it in 2-3 days with quests if you dont want to grind....

You must have forgot to get really mad and aggressive and start griefing and cursing out other players that came near "your" grinding area. That seems to be what a lot of the pathological grinders derive enjoyment from.

That and achieving their "goals" of unbalancing the game by mindlessly grinding to OP status. [snip] The fact of the matter is, by far the majority of western gamers dislike the tedium, monotony, and aggravation of mindless mash-grinding. [snip]

That said, I have never had much of a problem reaching max level through normal play and questing.

Strange you were at Vet 12 after the whole content. I reached Vet 14 after Cadwell's Gold and did a few quests and two runs in normal MA which got me to Vet 16. Never done any grinding in ESO.

Who forced you to do that?

I still don't have a vet16 char but I enjoy the game. This is what games for. Enjoy. Yourself.

And it's weekend! Compensate the grinding with some questing or pvp, c'mon!

i bet you 10k gold you didnt finish all quests.
cadwells gold? craglorn? cyrodiil? dlc? every dungeons? vMSA? trials?
if you say you finished all that on v12 youa re simply telling ***.

and you arent forced to grind. you can level by doing all the content just fine.
If you want to level fast grind like in EVERY other game. NO game (and that includes ESO) forces you to grind to v16, as there is enough content to do it. (base game is to v14, dlcs to v16)

agree. it's better since CP are capped. Previously you HAD to grind in order to stay competetive. Sometimes it was fun (e.g. latenight with nice guildmate on ts), most of the time it just felt like a second day-job to me that had to be done in order to be allowed to have fun in PvP later on. Thank god it's over, still feel sorry for those not at cap CP, yet.

I don't think making several long-winded quests provide 10 times as much XP is too much of a problem. or make the FINAL bosses of dungeons give much XP. Only then they could challenge the XP/h of grinding and if you take care that you cannot abuse them (would happen if first bosses gave much XP in dungeons), I'd much prefer groups grinding some vet dungeons over peopel grinding trashmobs and - worst of all - getting into fights with their own faction because of blocking each others spots

Hm, curious. I returned to this game as Vet 12, dead on, more or less no XP gained. I then started doing the Wrothgar zone, did all the quests, objectives and map points. Quite fun, grinded some 20% in Old Orisnium, but found it boring so I didn't bother that. Then came the Thieve's guild update, did the quests there, landed at VR 15. Figured I hadn't done all the quests and objectives (dolmens and such) in the world, so I decided to do that. At 60% to VR 16.

So what's my point here? Well it is what you make it out to be. I'm not stressing to get to VR 16, done some old objectives, done some dailies and just strolled through the game and gained XP by just playing it. I don't mind grinding, but as long as I have something fun to occupy me, I'll do that. You can get quite a lot of XP without grinding by just completing objectives, old quests and such. I'm probably going to hit VR 16 this weekend when I go back to the old zones to complete the map there, and I haven't started on Craglorn so probably should try and find some people to grind at least the dungeons there.

If grinding is your game then by all means, but there are alternatives to get to VR16 that doesn't involve grinding

The worst time I had grinding was:

When i was a noob, I was trying to level up fast to catch up to my friend ( she was around level 50 ). I met someone to help me and they put me in the wayrest sewer for around 6 hours.

I de-friended him. You don't take a noob to wayrest sewers for 6 hours of torture and expect to be friends afterwards. I had nightmares of rats attacking my feet.

But I do like grinding more than questing. I turn on netflix and watch "Walking Dead" while I kill zombies.

If you want a friend, get a dog.

    ^This.^

Nobody is forcing you to grind.

Do you have the "Tamriel Hero" and "Explorer" achievement titles? If not, there's content that you missed and could have done instead ...

There are some quests in Cyro such as towns, delves, anchors that give some xp. They don't give a lot of it, but it is interesting to try to do them while you are trying to avoid enemies.

I leveled up a char from VR1 to VR7 in Cyro sometime ago. It took me a month doing most those quests and it was kind of fun to find enemies in the meantime. It helps you a lot to pay more atention to everything around you (specially if the quest is located in the enemy faction zone).

At the end, what makes a good player is not the VR level he has, but the xp he gets on the battlefield.

I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

Oh and please remove them asap, they are just a usless waste of time that don't add any fun to the game, but drives people away!!!

    wtf
sure grinding is faster than doing normal stuff, thats like this in EVERY game out there. doesnt matter if singleplayer or multiplayer. If you want your max level fast, grind, if you want to do the content your level then do the zones in order and then pvp or do vet dungeons.

nobody forces you to level up 3 vet ranks in 6 hours, you can just do it in 2-3 days with quests if you dont want to grind....

You missed the part where I finished all the quests and had no option but to grind, since nothing other than quests give any real XP, because... well I have no clue why.

And actually not a single game I played was I forced to grind like that whether single player or multiplayer.

Even other mmo you can level by doing dungeons and other methods than grinding

i bet you 10k gold you didnt finish all quests.
cadwells gold? craglorn? cyrodiil? dlc? every dungeons? vMSA? trials?
if you say you finished all that on v12 youa re simply telling ***.

and you arent forced to grind. you can level by doing all the content just fine.
If you want to level fast grind like in EVERY other game. NO game (and that includes ESO) forces you to grind to v16, as there is enough content to do it. (base game is to v14, dlcs to v16)

I did every quest in gold & silver (and yes I was using addons, I did every last one), all the world bosses, delves & public dungeons, no XP scrolls but with ESO+ and, starting at level 48, I ended up right at v14. I could see how without ESO+ you could end up at v12.5-ish.

so silver + gold? then cyrodiil quests, then craglorn?!

and 48 is surpisingly low. i was halfway to v2 when i finished my starting alliance,

I wasn't counting cyrodiil and craglorn since those can be difficult to play through without a group. I was at 48 because that alt was a BWB twink, I sped through the main story, ended up at about 46 and then earned a couple levels dropping meteors on newb reds and blues ;)

see, craglorn is meant at v12-v14 content from the base game. so you are totally in range ;)

I agree, but craglorn can be really frustrating to solo depending on how capable you are with your build. If you can't play during prime time and are not in a guild that you can find a group in then craglorn is off the table for a lot of people.

    6 hours? Are you serious?

Go play any Korean or Chinese MMO. You will literally have to grind the same quest/dungeon/mob group for months at a time to get to max level. Months. Not 6 hours.

Kids these days. Just want to get spoon fed everything and complain for no good reason.

Why is getting to v16 a goal? I ask, because removing vet ranks might not make the difference you expect it to make. If you want to be v16 to wear top level gear, even without vr, a new player would still need to get enough CP for top level gear. That would mean grinding CP instead of VP, but it would still mean leveling without content.

I'm just curious -- how much CP do you have now that you just hit v16? I am also surprised you were only vet 12 after fininshing all content. They have made a lot of adjustments to the game, decreasing XP requirements at vet levels and increasing XP. 8 vr per Cadwell zone is very possible. Did you avoid mobs as you did the quests, or did you kill everything in sight? Leaving a trail of corpses helps. I have an alt who was already vet 4 when they decreased XP requirements but is already v10 in the second Cadwell's Gold zone. She hadn't done any DLC. She also hasn't done any vet dungeons and is missing a lot of non-vet dungeons.

By the way, at launch, you would have been only v10 upon completing Cadwell's Gold. And there would be no DLC. There were better grinding spots though.

Hmm. I dont grind as a rule. Id rather poke my eyes out with an ice pick.

I reached v16 just doing cads silver and gold with a few dungeons mixed in along the way. I've got a v8 that has just done the first zone in silver, with a few dungeons, Cyro delves, and sewars along the way. I usually get to silver as vet 1 or 2 sometimes 3.

I'm subbed so I get the XP bonus. Otherwise I can't say why you were so much slower.

My current alt is V7 in a V4 zone. Meaning, by the time I finish the last gold zone, I should be at least VR14, leaving the two new zones to do the rest of my leveling. Got 3 levels above the zone by doing all the quests and delves. Yet to do fighters/mage guild quests too.

First time through this game, had exactly the same experience as you OP (without your frustration), because I missed side quests in each zone.
