The problem with a lot of the skills that we're talking about here is that they are ground based and relatively small area. Against dumb mobs thats fine... but against other players in such wide open spaces as Cyrodiil you'll find that 99% of players will only be in the AoE for one tick before moving out of it.
It may be ok on very very niche moments such as wall breaches or flag stacking, but other than that if you're putting all your eggs in the AoE basket like that you will probably be a bit weak overall.
Best bet is to maybe go with player based AoE.... so prox det, impulse, mines perhaps, etc.
alot of commonly used skills on sorcs also do "aoe" damage.
although the dmg isnt alot, it does count for something like an aoe and in the end probably does as much dmg as an aoe due to the fact that players dont stand in red.
examples are mages wrath, velocious curse, boundless storm, force pulse and meteor/dawnbreaker.
Sadly a magic NB or DK is better at AoE then a magic Sorc. Which is just wrong lol.... I have a VR 16 Magic NB and VR 16 magic sorc , plus a soon to be VR 16 magic DK , My VR16 magic templar is last on the AoE list. Dont get me wrong , the Sorc and Templar are not bad at AoE but NB and DK are much better.
