Cloaks...Am I alone in hankering for cloaks?

It seems zenimax have a dislike of cloaks...I really feel it would be so awesome if they would give us the ability to use cloaks. I would even be happy if some cosmetic looks somewhere, even in the store had them. Am I alone in this wish?

Cloaks when done right are quite beautiful. However I have found in most modern graphic intensive 3D games they tend to clip with everything you wear and wield while reducing FPS oftimes to a large degree. ESO has enough lag problems and I don't like to see clipping on anything as it takes away from my immersion.

YMMV but unless they can overcome the problems capes cause I prefer they don't add them.

Cloaks always seem to end up looking hokey.

You're not alone, they just can't implement it with the current limitations of the engine.

It's been mentioned times and times again...

Yeah, they had originally planned to add cloaks and capes. They found that done right they lag up everything severely, and done less then right they clip through everything and end up looking like cra... uhm... not very good.

So they decided to dodge the whole issue by not having them in ESO. In the spirit of "If you can't get it done Right, don't do it at all"

And yes, I would have liked cloaks. But I can live without them. Maybe someday... maybe when tech advances a step again, and we all upgrade to super nifty new computers that could handle the extra calculations without lag... who knows?

I suppose cloaks really are a headache for devs eh? Maybe one day someone will come along and do cloaks justice in an MMO...

    I hate cloaks.

In WoW and other games they always clip through everything, especially when they're animated. It looks awful.

Not to mention that it would cause problems with Khajiit and Argonains... Just look at the cloaks mod for Skyrim... it just flat removes their tails.

I've always liked cloaks/capes in games. We've had them in UO all the way until now. Even mass pvp games such as daoc and Warhammer had them. In this day and age there really is no excuse not to.

There was only one MMO that got capes to look cool... and only because they werent traditional capes.

You realize they removed 600 deer from Cyrodil to remove the server from having to calculate thier movements in an attempt to reduce lag?

I'm guessing the recent change to horse head movements was done for the same reason.

Adding cloaks would be yet another thing for the server to calculate and it would need to be different for standing still, walking, running and riding a horse.

So until we can solve the lag issue, we don't need cloaks.

Too much lag already. I'll take performance over fashion, and the performance already sucks. :(

I can undestand the deer would have to be calculated by the server... but horse head and cloak movements have no reason to be calculated server side.

    They don't?
Well in that case, first let them move anything they can without fear of hacking to client side and fix performance, Then we can talk about cloaks.

Why would they? Whether your horse moves his head left or right has no influence on combat. It would be the same with cloaks. Ofc your own client would have to calculate all the cloaks in your FoV which would lower your fps significantly but latency would remain unchanged.

I am quite happy without capes. My Khajiit are mostly stealthy and the capes/cloaks can get caught and tangled on the scenery.

Nice of you to be keeping score.

I understand the clipping issue, but surely it can be overcome in 2016? If we can have NPCs characters can not walk through, in ESO surely we can have clothing that does not clip? Including cloaks. Of course.
