It's the Blight, probably. You gotta figure that a high enough concentration of Blighted Cliff Racers could upset the behavioral ecosystem sufficiently to make all of them extremely territorial and ornery.

I would think The Blight as well, but IDK for sure.

maybe the blighted ran off the female cliff racers and the rest got mad for that and they are all angry there are no more women to look at or whatever they do ;)

EDIT: but I mean wouldn't you be more aggressive if the females/ males(respectively) were gone for good? it would make me angry haha.

It's not just the cliff racers. The mudcrabs and horkers are far more docile as well.

I was very surprised at the amount of things that did not try to kill me on this game. Cliffracers yes, but also mudcrabs... my very first death in Oblivion was death by mudcrab, shortly after I left the Imperial Prison.

Pretty sure they put them in so nobody would ask where they were, but made them passive because if you really want to fight them, you'll pop in TES3 and relive the nightmare.

They got tired of the dunmer singing that song about them.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I always hated how you could turn and watch the cliff racers fly around you but if you stop then they hit you from behind. At least the mudcrabs in Morrowind didn't burrow. I was so shocked when a crab burrowed down and came up from behind me but, yeah, even the guar tried to gum you to death in Morrowind.

    Actually it was 3E 427.

By the fourth era they were wiped out.

Praise St. Jiub for that! I'm still disappointed he didn't have a shrine in Morrowind.

Yeah, but at least he asked you your name, before you got dragged away by that one dude. That's his name by the way, "that one dude." He had a sad life manning the imperial prison ship housing St. Juib.

So, in Morrowind in 2E 582 there are cliff racers. They scoot around the mountain tops minding their own business and doing no harm to anyone. By 4E 433 they are the greatest evil known to Morrowind. What happened? Why did the cliff racers get so damned angry? There must be a tale to be told...

They're just aggressive fellows with a grudge.
People hunt them for their feathers. If you remember, when you kill one it gives you it's feathers. Eventually, they decided to turn the table on their tormentors.
    I miss their sound!!
    Scree,scree,scree!!
