Wait time with Dungeon Finder

So I decided to try the new 'improved' dungeon finder today (still am using it) and it looks cool and I really like the idea of the random dungeon reward. Going in as a damage dealer I was expecting times between 20 and 30 minutes for a random dungeon. This was roughly the time it took me before it was updated and choosing a dungeon I had not previously completed (so kind of random and not the undaunted pledge).

Right now I am sitting at Actual wait time: 45 minutes....
Estimated time: <1min, 9min 15s, 45 min 20s and so forth

I am pretty sure this has a lot to do with the lack of tanks but there should be a way around this. Other games have added systems where it would ask you if you would like to join a queue without a tank (so 3 damage 1 heal) and then make the instance scale reflect this. This would really help with people trying out the dungeons while leveling.

It would be nice to have the estimated time reflect what others of your chosen role are waiting, especially since a tank will almost get in right away skewing the time way down as each group only has 4 people in it.

My experience so far is much different from yours. I was doing random dungeon dailies as healer and as dd lately. As healer my wait time was less than a minute, as dd it was a bit longer, but always less than 5 min.

I play on PC EU and usually did the dungeons in the (late) evening.

The only thing I noticed was that you don't find groups when you invite an other player to your group before you start the groupfinder. Even when we tried as healer and tank, we coudn't find dds for a random dungeon during prime time.

Well maybe I am unlucky and no one on the US server wants to enter the dungeon finder XD

Well, I hate to complain but after an hour last night in the random finder I made a group, ran a dungeon then re-entered the random finder. After another hour I decided to call it a night and went to bed. This morning I am back in the finder at over 30 minutes so far and nothing.

I would love to hear about this from one of the Dev's because I hear a lot of people are using the finder just fine yet I cannot get into a group. Also, I tried to submit a bug report but am having issues finding the right category. None of the categories/sub-categories lists any of the tabs (group finder, character, skills) as a reason to submit a bug.

Are you a DPS? DPS wait times are always going to be the longest - when I queue for a random dungeon as a tank I usually get a group almost right away. You could also be queuing at times when not as many people are online. Or it could be affected by the same bug that is causing pre-formed groups to see extended wait times when queuing for a random dungeon instead of getting one instantly.

Without knowing all of the variables involved (and it's not possible for us to know the variables involved, like how many people are online using the group finder) we can't know for sure why your wait times are so long.

On the EU server - Low level toons, anything from 20 minutes to 1 hour thirty minutes, anything in between. That's where you notice it the most, as a DPS obviously I am sure i'd be in quicker as a tank or healer.

On the plus side you really don't want to leave, no matter how many wipes. On the downside, if someone decides to leave instantly or they never really turn up you end up in another queue, at the beginning of another 30 minute wait.

Probably a hard / impossible problem to fix... even if the Dungeon Finder becomes more popular, more people will just queue up for DD.

If you want shorter times, trying to tank / heal yourself would help.. but since there's no easy way to insta switch roles, people are less than likely to do that.

I tank in most mmo's but there is no decent damage reduction taunt or aoe ability, in this one for pvp I noticed, so I am not levelling a tank toon. For me you are more of a CC'er in ESO as a tank, which doesn't appeal as much (to me personally) That leaves healer, and I am considering raising a healer, but it doesn't help my mains

After reading a different post claiming the random finder puts vet 16 players in a priority spot, I switched to my vet 16 damage dealer and got into spindle non-vet after 20 minutes.

Tanking in ESO is strategic. You don't need AOE taunts because you're not intended to be taunting everything and having everything attack you - you're intended to be taunting the hardest hitters. There are also plenty of damage reduction skills.

Mind you, tanking in PVP is another matter entirely, and one that I have no experience with...

As a tank my waiting time is less than a minute when I am doing a pledge. If not, less than 5 min. Now I created a DPS sorc and I waited for 30 min and nothing, than I gave up.

It is weird, because sometime ago I checked tank/dps on the group role, and a lot of times I would find another tank. Maybe that was because it was pledge, I am not sure.

The problem is, as I have seen in other discussions, is that people don't like tanking. Well... I do. It is way better than waiting 30+ min, and it is fun to play, if you know what you are doing.

I tried the new grouping tool this weekend and have a mixed experience.
- Wait times can be a pain when running pledges / random on my 2nd - 3rd alt and only can queue as dps (lack of skills).
- Wait times can get frustrating with ppl bailing when group forms or what's even worse getting kicked out of the group for no apparent reason when group forms, and queue again for another 30 min wait.
- While waiting for a dungeon you can't do open world activities like world bosses or go to Cyrodiil.

Agreed. I tank because I enjoy it - being able to get a group for a dungeon quickly is a nice bonus, but the bottom line is that I enjoy tanking more than I enjoy healing or DPSing. I do all 3 roles, but tanking is my favorite.

there is no healer and tank anymore cause ZOS only cares about DPS these days. make a tank and you will find a group within 1 min
